Oh yes, cool book. I love album cover art books. I have a book about
Hipgnosis, who designed most of the classic Pink Floyd covers and so
many more in the 70's and 80's. I used to have a link to a website of
all early British covers but I lost it. A lot of the USA covers were
changed(ruined!)because of nudity or such things and I like to see
the original ones.

I'm sorry tgalloca but I can sell this book. I love this too much !
I appreciated the DVD bonus accompanying the last album.
This concert was superb even if one can notice several errors in the
older songs ("Winged assassins" for example).
Some questions:
I see a young woman on the left scene which seems to appreciate
well. Is this a friend of the group? :-)
I see a sudden change from sound in the medium on the last
track "Mothra" (as if the sound recording came from a private
camera)?
Does LIPS always have its vibrator??? :-)
I don't really like the sound in the festivals but ANVIL has a good
sound in this DVD and it's so good to hearing some old songs
like "Winged assassins", "Forged in fire", "Mothra" (nervous Lips !)
or "666" but where's "Free as the wind", my favourite song from
ANVIL ???
It's sad that I never see ANVIL touring in Paris (FRANCE) :-(
Yes, the DVD is a good one, I watch it many times. The sound mix
changes a lot through the concert and some times certain instruments
get lost in the mix for a time. I think the show was probably mixed
onto 2 track tape "on the fly", as it was happening. The soundman was
busy adjusting levels and as he moved the faders, that is what we
have on the master tape. Maybe Lips can know more about this. That's
how it seems to me because sometimes Ivan's leads are right up in the
mix and sometimes Lips' guitar gets lost while he's soloing. Yes,
there is a big sound change at the time you mentioned so something
happened there to knock things off course a bit. Overall, I enjoy the
show! The camerawork is great and the playing was hot on this day.
All the more amazing to me because Lips has said before that they had
a bad monitor mix for the show. At the end of the first song "Five
Knuckle Shuffle" on the DVD if you listen closely, you will hear
somebody (Lips probably?) saying "I can't hear a fucking thing!!!".
We were also wondering about the identity of this mysterious woman
just offstage!
cAt
I thought that only women were curious??.."The woman behind Anvil" on the bonus
DVD"....to follow!
I love the DVD, but I prefer when the songs when they aren't perfectly matching
with the recorded version. That's why I love blues and other stuff. Rush plays
exactly like on the album and I've just felt like "I'm not watching a show". We
were supposed to go to see Deep Purple, but we're broke. We had friends at home
and my family just left this morning after a huge party last night...I was glad
to see them.
One thing made me curious about Lips first speech. "...you're not like those
English fucks!". I've always wondered what happened in England in 1983. I tried
to find out with the Kerrangs! that we have here, but they don't really tell
anything about it. I've heard many stories. Like "Lemmy wanted to hire Lips to
replace Fast Eddy Clark"...."They didn't have the success that they deserved (a
classic one!)"..."They had a good crowd only at one place, a night". I wanted to
know to put it in the Bio but it's like a blank.
Also, it's sad that Anvil doesn't go in France...and in all the countries where
they have fans. It's one of the only bands that got fans a little bit everywhere
in the world. I dream of a special website that would webcast live shows (5$)
with a good sound, good lights and a little crownd to create an ambiance. Many
bands are to see still but unhappily the promotors are a rarity concerning metal
music.
Wacken (Metal Marathon 2004) has started to present some samples on Windows
Media Player. They offer 2 hours free and Catdeli is now listening to Dio
(Heaven and hell) www.hardy.tv.com for the rest, they charge. Doro is going to
sing right now...Technology is fast, I hope that a canadian is going to be
bright enough to show a kind of "Gate of Hell" online. High Speed Connection is
cheaper that it was years ago. Dreams don't kill...
Bye!

Bartender sent me the setlist on the Yahoo Messenger, because we were discussing
about Anvil. I think that he'll go at Arlequin (QC City) to see them and that he
has a lot of albums or posters to get "signed". He's a fan....but is also a Iced
Earth fan. He was a bit shy to send me this, but he did...My English is not
perfect but I've noticed that something wasn't cool in that setlist. Catdeli
(not able to say a bad word about anybody) had problem to figure out to
understand why bringing back always Anvil on a setlist...I think that Tony found
out! I wish that I knew what "Crybaby" is...I know only the meaning of
"Asshole". Is that possible that a musician that deserves to be call like
it...refers always to another band to justify his bad moods or whatever. I don't
know if he's pissed off, but if yes: YAY!
That's what I like with Anvil, they always surprises people, they never do what
the others expect from them and they're like cats...it's on the feet that they
fall. Maybe Lips next jokes onstage are going to be about Shaffer, no? Bartender
asked me if Lips was still signing albums and if he would take some pics with
him...I think that Lips and the other guys of Anvil are the ones that are always
nice with the fans. They'll probably be tired on that Sunday, coming back from
Rimouski....but I know Lips will go to see the fans. I won't be there,
unhappily. I've received my card to work, I'll have my social security number in
3 weeks, but I'm still waiting for a letter telling the date/hour of my
interview at the Imm. for the right to leave the US. I applied only in June for
my Adjustment of Status. They took our check very quick but they're working
slowly . They increased the "security" but decreased the staff.
Keep on rockin.....in a free world!!

What band writes comments on their setlist each night? Is that what
this is supposed to be? This is something weird to me. Who put these
comments on there anyway? Iced Earth's guitarist or bartender? I have
some setlists from shows I saw and I always get close enough to at
leaast read them on the stage and I have never seen comments on any
yet.
What is written on this one here appears to be very ANTI-Anvil in a
few places but then at the bottom Anvil is mentioned as
being "legendary". So do they think Anvil sucks or do they think that
Anvil is legendary? The whole thing is bogus to me.

That seemed strange to me as well.

If it was a joke, it was a bad one.

Maybe Helion or Heavymetalhead or Tony can tell me if they have these
informations: for which bands Anvil opened in 1982 for Metal on Metal? I'm not
sure. I think Twisted Sister, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden...but I don't know the
rest. Please if you know just post or if someone read the board and knows about
it...email me.
Thanks!

It was not me who put those comments on the setlist it was the band
(Iced Earth) as I grabbed teh setlist after teh show (Like I always
do) and was curious when I read teh Anvil comments. I had talked with
them after their show but only got the Iced Earth setlist after teh
Iced Earth set so I had no chance to talk to them about that. I was
out of town on the last Anvil tour so I could not talk to them about
it, but I'm going to the Qc show and will hopefully talk to them
about it and see what was that about if anything!

Quite honestly, I have no axe to grind when it comes to Iced Earth.
We did a short tour of the US a number of years ago, the agent who
booked the tour(The Creep), caused a lot of bad vibes between the
bands. Each of the shows paid next to nothing, and Iced Earth was
charging money for the use of thier speaker cabnets and drums. It was
about 50% of what we were making as our wage! Needless to say it
caused some friction. The guys in Iced Earth were so rock stared out
they wouldn't let us or the other support bands into the change
rooms. Jag Panzer was the brunt of a joke I mentioned on stage, Harry
the singer had made a dreadful mistake and called Columbus Ohio
Cleaveland, and when we went on stage I made a joke of it. The
bassist was livid with me, however Harry was amused, it really wasn't
meant to insult anyone but the bassist took it really seriously. I of
course apologized, and explained that Lemmy did the same thing to me
when we toured England and I made the same type of mistake that Harry
made when I called Birmingham, Newcastle!!! It happens all the time,
when you do so many shows in a row you sometimes don't even know
where you are. Iced Earth may hate us but I won't feed the flame, it
was a difficult tour with many hardships that each band blamed the
others for. After paying for backline use we never helped move Iced
Earth's equiptment, we finished hours before they did and would leave
after we finished playing, this really pissed them off, as well as
being blown off the stage by us and Jag Panzer. By the time they
would start thier set most people had left the club and those that
were left over were too burned out to give a good response. It was a
great experience for Jag Panzer and Anvil, but a living nightmare for
Iced Earth. I really don't blame Shaffer for his resentment. That's
the price you pay for trying to be a headliner in a country that
doen't give a shit about what you are doing............
HAHAHAHA! Great story!
"Rawk and Rowl!!!!!"
I can hear it now: "How ya fuckin' doing, Newcastle???"
"ooops...." @_@
More war stories from the road, please.

I've posted the page of an "archives" that I've found here...All the shows from
1981 to 1985 in Albany. It's in 1983 that Anvil toured with Aerosmith. These
are real documents...How exciting to live with a maniac.
It's in the folder "Varius" (Files).
I don't know if US doesn't care about Anvil but one thing is sure is that almost
all the "over 30 years old" guitarists know Lips. One of them asked lives now in
Hudson Falls but is from NYC. He asked me a lot about Lips and Anvil. He saw
them in the 80's (at L'amour). The other guitarist is one of Catdeli's best
friends. He's an excellent guitarist but it's a very small area here. He asked
me what Lips was doing for living, how many kids he had and.....if he has made
money with his music. I've answered quickly to the two first questions, for
sure. I told him that Lips pretended that he has never made money, but that I've
always wondered why he had so many guitars...He told me that he has never
succeeded to be a "pro" but that he needed to play anyway. Here, it's difficult
to find a bass player (Here means Glens Falls, Hudson Falls, Saratoga, Fort
Edward, Queensbury, etc...) Finally he asked me: "What happened with Allison?".
I said that the last news I had were that he was a lumberjack and far from the
civilisation. Then he asked me about Ivan..."Is he a good guitarist?". I said
yess, damnit! "There's no comparison between the both".
About Iced Earth, if they have time to lose hating the other bands....that's too
bad for them. They seem to like the "Controversy"...and not only with the
magazines. We won't feed the flame, life is too short.

Hey Guys I agree Iced Earth Sucks.. Anvil blew Iced Earth away in
Chicago at Smiler Coogans but the set list was so damn Short... I did
not watch Gay Iced Earth then. They Suck. Hey Also Any Tankard Fans
out there? I am trying to Find two Cds By Tankard under the name
Tankwart. O.K. Got to go now. Hail Anvil and Tankard. Kill Schaffer
and Posers Iced Earth. Sincerly in Metal Lust,WIPY.
Hey Tony, I was sneaking on your site because I needed some tour
dates. Your site is not only complete, but each times that I went I
found something unusual about Anvil. What is that? Back filled in for
Lips once? Live?...When? Why? and how was it? Really, I can't figure
it out.
