When I started this group in December of 2000 - I had no idea that
almost 6 years & 4000 posts later, that this group would still be
going.

I think that's a huge tribute to one of the greatest metal bands of
all time - who - lucky for all of us - are Still Going Strong.

I know that I rarely, rarely post here - it's probably been well over
a year - but I do lurk & do keep up with what's going on in Anvil-land.

I'm definitely looking forward to the next record & definitely the
documentary - that should be insane!

One thing I'm hoping one of the experts could clear up (Tony G.??) - I
heard a rumor that Anvil can no longer enter the U.S. to play. For a
time - they were down here quite frequently - at least twice a year -
however, they've played no shows in the U.S. in probably close to 5
years or so. This sucks!!!

Is this rumor true?? If so - why?....and....is this a permanent
situation?

In any case - I see that there's been a lack of activity on this forum
for awhile now - hopefully I can instigate some conversation.

P.S....happy belated 50th to Mr. Lips!

Hey everybody - it was a lot of fun going and playing at Ivan's wedding!

It was really nice wedding too - and we met a lot of fun and cool people!

After the ceremony we went to the Community Hall and played a set (and got
Tiziana and Ivan slow dancing!) he he and then some friends of Anvil's from
Raven and others went up and jammed with Robb on the drums, that was really
cool!

And then Anvil played a short but energetic set (including Forged in Fire and
Metal on Metal of course)!

The guys who are making the Anvil documentary were there and caught a lot of the
festivities including two of our songs. :)

After that we went back to Ivan's family cottage and chatted 'til the wee hours
of the morning - we had brought a tent so we camped out that night. Had a great
breakfast the next morning courtesy of Ivan's Mom then headed back home to
Montreal.

All in all a lot of fun! Cheers to the Anvil gang, thanks for lending us your
equipment and Lips, thanks for all your help and advice!

Cheers,

Jerry for AraPacis

Hey....how are you? It has been awhile.

There has been a lack of activity. It usually picks up around the
release of a new CD.

As for Anvil in the US. I will say this....a subset of Anvil cannot
enter the US.

what a wicked show - I give them a solid 10/10.. they were rocking last
night.. new tunes yeah.. they played.. This is Thirteen, Flying Blind
and Feed the Greed. This is Thirteen is an amazing song. The other 2
are classic Anvil as well.. I can't wait to hear the rest of the tunes.
Good crowd there last night too. Must have been a good 75-100 people.
The also played the usual - March of the Crabs, 666, Forged in Fire, Mad
Dog, School Love, Winged Assassins, Smokin Green, Race Against Time,
White Rhino, Metal on Metal and Mothra. I might have missed a
couple.... Seeing Anvil was well worth my 8 hours of driving. Can't
wait for the next one! :) - I've seen them 4 times now.. still waiting
to see them play something off of Absolutely no Alternative.

Piledriver were awesome too. They played Sex with Satan, Metal
Inquisition, Witch Hunt, Piledriver, Human Sacrifice.. I'm sure there
was a couple more but can't recall what they were.

I took a pile of pics and short vid of White Rhino - Tony, maybe I can
send you a zip of the better pics for you to put up.

I don't know what forces of nature allowed it to happen - but I'm
super-psyched that Anvil are coming back to the northeastern U.S.

Welcome back boys!!!

Between Speed of Sound & Plenty of Power (maybe they played down here
once after Still Going Strong?...not sure...) I saw Anvil down here in
NY & NJ like 5 or 6 times...but then - nothing since.

Shall be there next Friday in Staten Island....and maybe if I'm
feeling especially ambitious - might take a roadtrip out to Lancaster
for the Saturday show.

Anyone else post here who might be going to either of those shows?

Where did everyone go??

This message board was so active (with no help from myself,
admittedly).

In any case - Anvil is playing tonight at the Mystic Lounge in Staten
Island, NY - and yours truly will be there.

Unfortunately - I hear they're playing a short set (30 minutes) - wish
they could play for 2 hours - but what can ya do?

Lookin' forward to seeing the boys for the first time in several years.

Just got back from the show (it's almost 3 a.m.) and just wanted to
write this while it was all fresh in my mind.

Anvil played tonight at a club I've never gone to (Mystic Lounge) in
one of the lesser-known boroughs of New York City, Staten Island (in
the hundreds & hundreds of shows I've been to - only a handful have
ever been in Staten Island).

This weekend is what they're calling the L'Amour Reunion weekend. For
those who don't know, L'Amour was a legendary hard rock/heavy metal
club that was in Brooklyn (and I think there may have been one in
Queens too for awhile) - that was especially prominent in the '80's.
They closed their doors & then re-opened for a few years in the
late-90's/early-00's. The "original" L'Amour was a little before my
time - but I did attend quite a few shows at the "new" L'Amour (which
is sadly also now gone).

I saw Anvil twice there about 5-6 years ago. Anvil has a special
place in L'Amour history because I believe they were actually the
first national act to ever play there.

The line-up for these 2 nights of shows in Staten Island isn't what
you would call "star studded" (Anvil being the only true national act
on the bill) - but I don't think having huge bands was really what
this weekend is all about. I think it was more about getting all the
people who would go to L'Amour EVERY weekend for years back together
again in one place. I wasn't a part of that scene - but it was clear
that people were having a great time seeing each other again after so
many years.

3 of my friends & I packed into my car and made the hour drive from
Long Island to Staten Island. The place was pretty packed, Blitz from
Overkill was D.J.'ing....Vito Bratta from White Lion was there was
some crazy new Lambourghini or something.

Anvil hit the stage thankfully not as late as I expected they would.
Got a spot right in front of Ivan. Said a quick "hello" to Lips - who
at first wasn't quite sure who I was - but then remembered (it's OK -
it's been about 5 years since they last played down here).

Musically - the band was in fine form - Robb was a whirlwind as usual,
Ivan & Glenn aggressively manned the wings, and Lips - the foundation
- at center.

It was great that after 5 years of not seeing these guys - they did
not disappoint. Well - it was disappointing - but not because of
them. Because there were so many bands, Anvil were limited to an
EXTREMELY short set...I think they played for maybe 25 minutes.

They opened with "March of the Crabs" - which Lips played almost
entirely while standing in the crowd.

This was followed by the brand new "This is Thirteen" (which sounded
awesome - can't wait for the new record), then "666", "School Love",
"Winged Assassins", and, finally, "Metal on Metal".

That was it - 6 songs & it was over. Years of anticipation in seeing
the boys again - and it was over & done with in 25 minutes.

Not their fault - but that was pretty disappointing.

Lips also seemed to be rather disappointed with the set...I think he
felt the audience just wasn't that into it.

I was surprised by this - because that wasn't my perception at all.
The place was packed - and there were plenty of people up front
cheering them on & head banging. But - I know that it can often be a
very different perception being onstage compared to being in the
audience. I know that I was right up front and soaked in every minute
of it.

It was good to have them back in the area.

Tomorrow they play Allentown, Pennsylvania...I was considering a
roadtrip - but unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to make that
happen....'tis a shame because no doubt they'll get to play a much
fuller set. But - I hope it's a good show for them.

I also was talking briefly with Mike Sabatini, the drummer for
Attacker, and he mentioned that they'll be playing a couple of shows
with Anvil in December....don't know if that's 100% confirmed or not -
but - either way - it sounds like Anvil will be making the trip down
to the states a little more often than they had been in the past few
years....you know I'll be there!
