Hi John and clouds! :-)
I'm not an expert but I guess contemporary classical music askes different
concepts from musicians and audiances. I mean, technically we (western people
in general) are not "trained" in "new musical language" and aesthetics. At
most part of time we go listening to these very tonal stuff. Many of us are
not "able" to interpret modern musical language - taste here is a matter of
consequence and not causation.
It's easier to pay musical infraestructure (personnel, instruments, halls,
etc) if you give people what they want at less efforts. Unfortunately, I
think, in a materialistic society people are not interested to evolve
critically, even worse if this implies something without monetary value.
I'm not sure but I guess orchestras will continue playing Jupiter symphony 12
times a year (and there will be many folks to hear it all!).
all the best
