Berlioz Requiem   Message List

I have the recording of Levine with the Berlin. Pavarotti is great in
the Sanctus. It's a DG 429724-2. Sir Andrew Davis with the London is
also fine, a Philips 41628-2. But Levine's recording sounds like he
put together all the orchestra Berlioz had called for - literally
hundreds of brass, separated in all four corners of the hall. Back
in the mid-1800's, in Germany it was almost impossible to get the
Requiem performed. When it came to the Sanctus, there was no chorus
of women who could back up the tenor properly. Awesome music.
