Hi Cindi,

That "£brace" thing is the "tailpiece-and in this design, holds the string
barrels, as the strings bear down on the top rather than pull the top up as
on most modern flat-top guitars - but that's not a problem.

I'd suggest that you start with some "11"s D'addario EJ26 P/B strings - they
are very light, and should be easy to play and reasonable for this guitar.
If you get on with these - then go up a grade to standard lights or "12"s,
EJ16 - but start light at first.

Hello again. I finally did get a "parlor" guitar, it's a old Stella Harmony
model which I got from eBay. So far it's a nice size for me. Thanks to all
you who helped me through this. The question is: what kind of strings should
I get for it? It has a steel brace at the bottom to hold the strings, I'm
not sure what it's called. And I'm not sure if it's a good thing, but
