I also wanted to tell you that the band called Papercuts have recorded a lovely cover of the Casiotone for the Painfully Alone song "Baby It's You." I am super flattered because I really, really like that band. Thank you Papercuts. You can download a free MP3 HERE .

Forpart of my set, I will be joined by Tyson Thurston & Alance Ward from the band Magical, Beautiful. This show will be the record release party for the singles & rarities compilation album Advance Base Battery Life. I just got the LPs in the mail, and they are totally beautiful. I'm really excited about how this record turned out. The album won't be officially released until the first week of March, but I'll have both CDs & LPs for sale at the show.
Even though the Chicago show is a record release show for Advance Base Battery Life, I will also be previewing tracks from the next album proper, Vs. Children. Vs. Children is Casiotone for the Painfully Alone album #5 & it won't be released until the first week of April. Knock on wood, I should have copies of both albums for sale on my March Texas tour, though. Here are those dates:
For the Texas dates, I will again be joined Tyson Thurston from Magical, Beautiful. Tyson will be helping me play some of the new songs, as well as supporting the Houston show at the Mink/Backroom.

You may have already heard that I've decided to end Casiotone for the Painfully
Alone. I'd just like to clarify that this doesn't mean that I'm quitting music.
I love writing & recording songs, & I hope to make lots more records in my
lifetime. But, after nearly thirteen years of being the dude from Casiotone for
the Painfully Alone, I'm ready for a fresh start & a new challenge. So, after
December 5, 2010 (the thirteen year anniversary of my first show), I'm throwing
out the old songs & I'm trying something new. I'll have more news about new
projects & plans in the coming months.
Between now & December 5, I'm going to try to play as many Casiotone for the
Painfully Alone shows as I can. In September & October, I'll be touring the
United States & Canada with some good friends from Melbourne, Australia.
They're called Otouto & they are so great. Those tour dates are below. Later
in October & on into November, I'll be touring Europe & the United Kingdom.
That tour is still being booked, but I should have the dates ready to share in a
couple of weeks. I'm coming home for Thanksgiving, & then I'm going to try to
do something extra special for the big thirteen year anniversary grand finale.
I'm not exactly sure what it'll be yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I
figure it out.
I imagine I'll be repeating this sentiment a lot between now & December, but
thank you so, so much to everyone who has been so supportive of Casiotone for
the Painfully Alone over the past thirteen years. I never would have started
playing shows or making records without the encouragement of some great friends,
& it's blowing my ever-loving mind how many more friends I've made through music
over the years. Seriously, thank you.

Hi everybody,
I'm about to leave on the final US tour. My friends from Otouto are here from
Melbourne, Australia, & we've been rehearsing some songs to play together. I
think we sound pretty good. I've also been rehearsing some very old Casiotone
songs to play on my own.
There have been some changes to the US tour schedule. The Oakland & Brooklyn
shows have been moved to different venues, & we've added a date in Winooski,
Vermont. The full North American itinerary is below.
Below the North American itinerary are the dates for the final European & UK
shows. I'm still looking for a Paris show for November 19. Keep your fingers
crossed.

emotional couple of weeks for me, & I'm super grateful for how supportive &

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone is officially done, but that doesn't
mean that we don't have a few things to talk about.
First of all, I would just like to say thank you to everyone who turned
out for those final California shows. I had so much fun. I
owe an enormous thanks to The Donkeys, who did
double-duty as the tour support act & as the CFTPA backing
band. They were totally awesome, as usual. I also owe a big
thanks to Mark Kozelek & Jason Quever, who both joined us on stage
during the final show in San Francisco. Man, it was sure a thrill
for me.

I'd also like to thank everyone who came to see one of the final shows
in the United States, Canada, Europe, or the United Kingdom. I'm
totally overwhelmed by the kind words, support, & well wishes I've
received over the last three or so months. I'm very proud to have
met so many of the people who have been so supportive of Casiotone for
the Painfully Alone over the years. You guys are the best.
I hope you'll continue to enjoy those old albums, & I hope you'll
at least give a listen to whatever stuff I come up with next.
Okay, here's some news about some compilation releases:
I had a handful of copies of the One Inch Badge Split Series #5 7" (the
one w/ "Goodbye Parthenon" on it) for sale at some of the recent shows,
but the record still won't be available through mail order for a few
weeks. Keep an eye on the OIB Records website for
updates. OIB is currently selling a Christmas Compilation that
features a track by celebrated CFTPA alum, CONCERN.
I contributed an instrumental track & made the cover art for an e
3" CD compilation called CASIOTONE COMPILATION 2, available soon from
the excellent Japanese label Aotoao. CASIOTONE COMPILATION 2
features more than 20 artists from all over the world who make music
using Casiotone keyboards. I also made the cover art for the
first CASIOTONE COMPILATION, although I didn't make any music for that
one. You can find more information about CASIOTONE COMPILATION
& CASIOTONE COMPILATION 2 HERE.
A song that I recorded w/ Serengeti called "Kenny
Vs. Spring" is now available on an Asthmatic Kitty compilation 7"
called IMPORT. You can order it HERE. I'm credited
as Advance Base on the record, & that's the name I'm going to use
for all of my future productions. That's right, I'm a producer
now.
Six more Advance Base productions will be featured on Serengeti's next
album for Anticon.
Yoni Wolf from WHY? produced the other
half of the album, & I think it all sounds pretty awesome.
The album is being mastered right now, & should be out in the early
months of 2011.
Finally, I've updated the SHOP page w/ the latest in tour
merch leftovers. Please get these shirts out of my house.
I just wanted to let you know that the fifth & final Daytrotter session by Casiotone for the Painfully Alone is now available right HERE. On this recording, I'm accompanied by Hazel Brown, Martha Brown & Kishore Ryan of the great Otouto. Otouto recorded their own Daytrotter session, & it's available HERE .
In other news, I contributed a short instrumental track to a 3" CD on Aotoao called Casiotone Compilation 2 (I also drew the picture on the cover). There are 21 artists on this thing, & they all made their tracks using Casio keyboards. It's weird & great. You can order a copy direct from Japan through Aotoao's website, or you can email me at casiotonetechsupport@.... I still have a few copies left out of the 20 that Aotoao sent me, & I'll sell them to the first people who write & ask for them.

Just to clarify: Advance Base is the new name for all music made by me, Owen Ashworth. That includes solo recordings, band performances, & production for other musicians.
Advance Base Family Band is a live music band that performs songs that I wrote, plus a few covers of other people's songs. We are Nick Ammerman, Owen Ashworth, Edward Crouse, & Jody Weinmann.
