Hi Kate
If you go to
http://wwwsys.informatik.fh-wiesbaden.de/weber1/opera/lib.htmt
you will find oodles of libretti, including four Lortzing operas,
Undine, Wildschütz, Der Waffenschmied, Zar und Zimmermann.
You will find they have made a minor mistake; click on Wildschütz and
you get Der Waffenschmied, and vice versa. I have been to a
performance of Zar und Zimmermann but none of the others. I like Der
Waffenschmied very much but a live performance is out of the
question. There was a single performance of it in Koblenz in 2002
(commemorating the 200th year of Lortzing's birth, I think) but as I
live in Australia it seemed a bit too far to travel, but actually I
was more put off because the weather maps showed the temperature as
below zero! :)
I was in Berlin a month ago and took a couple of photo's of
Lortzing's statue in the Tiergarten. I'll see how they turn out and
maybe I can post them to this page.
