I don't have all of the LPs in front of me just now, but I do recall that one
album, issued in the early '70s on the "Ace of Clubs" label, took two of the
medley 78s on which Al had just one brief chorus and edited his sections of both
records together. I believe the two tracks were recorded some years apart, so
there was a noticeable shift in the audio quality.
I've also found many reissues where an instrumental section was edited out, and
several where the beginning of the record was edited down--likely because the
outer edge of a 78 is most prone to wear or breakage. I have a couple of
frustrating examples where the edited version is in much better audio quality
than the complete record, and unless I can find a better transfer of the
unaltered disc I may well include both in the final project.
