Brandy Splits With Husband
Couple plans to share custody of infant daughter
Twenty-four-year-old R&B singer Brandy and producer Robert Smith have
split after two years. According to reports, they will remain friends
and raise their one-year-old daughter, Sy'rai, together.
Sy'rai was born last June 16th, five months after Brandy announced
that she was pregnant. Two weeks before that, in January 2002, the
singer announced that she had secretly married Smith in the summer of
2001.
The couple's split may also extend to the studio. In place of
longtime collaborator Rodney Jerkins, a cousin of Smith's, Brandy
enlisted Timbaland to work on the follow-up to her 2002 Full Moon.
"I gave her a whole new style," Timbaland says. "She's not the Moesha
Brandy that you're all used to. She's talking about people, she's
lashing back. She talks about Rodney. She talks about people in her
business, her lifestyle, just not knowing the truth
about her."
Timbaland says the album will be called B-Rocka and come out by
Christmas.
...In other news, R&B songstress Monica recently appeared on BET's
106 & Park and mentioned that since Brandy should be dropping a new
album by November, it would be fun for them to hit the road together
in January 2004. She also said that they were on a plane together a
few days ago and had a mature conversation and it felt good. Is a co-
headlining tour with two of the hottest R&B stars on the horizon?
