New band member needed. Angels of the North. North-east England.
One of our twin lead fiddles will be emigrating to New Zeeland next
year and we will need to replace him with a fiddle or some other top
line instrument.
Apologies for any cross-posting but we would be grateful if you could
pass this through to anyone who you think might be interested in joining
us.
We have been going for 10 years now and we get a lot of repeat booking
/word of mouth engagements, so we must be doing something right.
The Angels patch is Alnwick down to Richmond. We meet weekly for
rehearsals and play around 30 paid gigs a year.
We are pretty open to any top line instrumentalist who wants to put in
the work to join us.
Our core repertoire is Northumbrian but we have extensive Irish and
Scottish repertoires for Burns Nights, Paddy's Nights and the like, plus
a wealth of materials from round the world that have been useful for
various bespoke ceilidhs.
We have a wealth of material and actively pursue research into old tunes
and dances.
This means we have a very large body of music.
All the Angels sight read and ability to read music would be an
essential for joining us.
You could have a look at our website if you are interested

Regrettably, Stomp will be unable to appear at Poynton on Saturday as Kevin
Adams is unwell. They were already shorthanded following Andrew King's stroke
earlier this year, and with Kevin out of action too it was clearly impossible
for them. We wish him (and Andrew too) a speedy recovery.
We have been very fortunate that the fabulous Committee Band have kindly stepped
in at very short notice. The caller will be Pete Rees, as previously
advertised.
We are looking forward to a fantastic evening so please give it your support.

Howard Jones

Pete picked up another copy of Down back o't' Shoddy and the dance was
collected in Saddleworth - which was Yorkshire then - but it's
Lancashire now! Exactly what I need.

Well exactly - I am hoping to do one from notation and then get the
pupils to write their own. It's what we always try to do in the Redcar
project which we've done every year since 1994 and then we nick the best
ones and use them.

There is a clogging element of the project being taught by Alex Fisher
so she'll cover the stepping and I don't want to step on her toes
literally or metaphorically!

I'm about to be involved in a project in some Lancashire primary schools
teaching dance and I've been asked to teach Lancashire dances.
Pete knows of one called "Jack the Lad" or "Jack's Alive" - with a
"window-cleaning" bit it in but we can't find the notation - not even in
my wonderful file of all Dave Hunt's dances!
Any help or other suggestions welcomed.
