Hello ( :

"Whether I'm Wrong" was recorded, live, off-the-floor, in one take a
couple of weeks ago at CBC Studio 2 in Vancouver (Gary Heald
engineer). That's when Alley appeared on CBC Radio's North by
Northwest program with host Sheryl MacKay.
This song is about to become part of very cool project for peace ~
about which I should have more word in the next week or so…
At the time the song was recorded, we were all in Kelowna, B.C. ~
one of the towns in the interior of our home province that endured
this summer's huge forest fires. Fortunately, the rains have
returned, and the fires are now out. Seems weather is going crazy
all over the world.
Kelowna was lots of fun (visiting Teish and travelers at SameSun) ~
and marked the return to the public stage for Allison, Dave and
Kevin. (After the long-layoff - you even have to remind yourself
where to position the instruments etc.) Our musical friend Terra
Grimard, and tour-mate from last summer, came out, as did her folks,
Gary and Rose. It was really grounding and cheering to see them!!!
Concert night at The Verve was presented by the ebullient Brad
Stevenson, the venue owner. Brad's team, which, on this occasion
included Judy, and Alisha, Erica, Caitlin, Lori, Michael, and Jason
were wonderful hosts. They even presented Alley with a huge peach
mousse, decorated on top with a chocolate grand piano, and sprinkled
with real gold ( : Yay for Dave at Royal Bakery! We hope to return,
and do some more people-watching as limos arrive and depart at Adam
and Eve's across the street from the Verve…
We took what was left of the peach mousse to Chilliwack, B.C. (a few
hours drive south of Kelowna) and gave it to Mano, presenter of our
next concert. Mano's family has operated that city's prime
restaurant, Bozzini's, for decades. Now bringing a mousse to a
restaurant may seem like bringing snow to Eskimos, but, it was fun.
And, I will soon have a bag of Ouzo sweets, courtesy of Bozzini's,
to take to our next shows! (I'll try and save some for when we reach
your city/town!)
The concert at the Chilliwack Arts Centre, happened this past
weekend. It was a joyful and 'wacky reunion with Reena, merch
monkey, and Condor and John, our audio-archivists (expect some
bootlegs to surface of the newest songs). It'd been soooooo long.
It's great to have our musical family regrouping. ACB (may as well
start using an acronym for Allison Crowe Band) were joined by young
artists Jan Bislin (violin), Erin Tinney (piano, vocals, cello) and
D.J. Abell (bass, guitar and drums ~ and an uncanny resemblance to
Dave, Alley's bassist - D.J. could pass for Dave's little brother).
We met Dina, Mano's cousin who had made a cool poster. Jim and
Jamea, from the Arts Centre, worked with Erin, our soundperson, to
deliver a beautiful sounding show. Thanks to Ken, Randy, Evelyn,
Ward and all who helped out and came out ~ we had a really good
audience. For those hockey nuts among us, fyi, the family of former
Vancouver Canuck Garth Butcher enjoyed the show. (Garth's daughter,
Megan, is a singer/pianist, and we got to meet her and her Dad!
wooohoo! Go Canucks Go!)
And that's, essentially, life on the road with Allison Crowe Band:
good food, good times, good people. And always, good music ( :
Alley is designing the symbol/logo for her new label, Rubenesque
Records ~ and we're all enjoying what is known as Indian Summer here
in the Pacific Northwest region of Canada. Warm, sunny days, that
lead us well into Fall.
How are you? What did you do this summer/winter (depending on which
hemisphere is home)? How's life?!
Peace and cheers, Adrian
