Hello-
I am new to altgitarren- just wanted to say hi and also announce a guitar for sale.
The guitar is a "standard" 8-string classical (that is, designed for standard guitar tuning with 2 extra bass strings) and is by Steve Ganz of Bellingham, Washington USA. Made in 1997. Cedar top with curly maple rosette (an interesting look, light color rosette on dark) with Indian rosewood back and sides, spanish cedar neck, ebony fingerboard and Gilbert tuners (verrry nice). You can see what Steve's guitars look like at ganzguitars.com, but he also has an older website where you can still find pics of Ocho (the name of this guitar) at:
just scroll down and click on pics at left.
I bought it for $2200 at Guitar Solo in San Francisco in 2001. I have not played it much since then, and it had 0 or 1 owners before me (not sure really). It is in excellent condition and comes with its original case. There are the inevitable little scratches here and there, but nothing that will upset you. The soundboard has a small clear plastic coating on the right side of the soundhole for some reason; it is original. I have it strung with two fat D'Addario bass strings (low C and low A) but you can also get things strings from Aquila and do a Brahms guitar tuning with one lower string and one higher, though I don't recommend doing that.
New Ganz 8-strings go for $2800. I wanted to sell this for $2000. Please let me know if you are interested, or know anyone who might be! Thanks!
Best,
Matthew Malone
