I actually did put in the string-1 position a thin Aquila string
tuned to a g' and then put the "standard" 6 guitar strings in the
middle, then tuned them all down a step so that Eadbge became
Dgcfad. Add one low C for string 8 and voila, renaissance tuning!
(for 10-course range, anyway)
