MICHEL HUYGEN NEWS
A very special album with the cyber-romatic music by Michel
Huygen will be available for the next Christmas 99. It includes a
totally new track with the participation of Pascal Languirand on
vocals.
"Hidrogen Espais Naturals de Catalunya" is a CD with a new
unreleased Michel Huygen's track and 15 other spanish musicians in
the New Age field.

"TRAILER" is a new CD by Klaus Schulze.

The first album by Tangerine Dream in 2000 will be "Soundmill
Navigator".

Commemorating its 20th anniversary, this year's special edition of
Paul Winter's Winter Solstice Celebration will feature the
premiere of new music and theatrical effects, with world music
percussionist Mickey Hart, formerly of the Grateful Dead, as a new
special guest, together with Armenian percussionist and vocalist
Arto Tuncboyaciyan and the Forces of Nature dance company.

MC2:
"ENERGY"
At-Mooss Records
This is a magnificient release by the band MC2 of a Space
Sequencer style, with powerful rhythms and dense atmospheres.
Though there are slow parts, much of the music has a lively
rhythm. In some parts, the rhythm assumes the role of melody,
given its complexity. The melodies usually are warm. There are
epic, majestic passages. Others turn out to be dark, mysterious.
The nine themes included in this album are pure electronic music,
with the philosophy of exploring new sonic continents nonetheless
without abandoning melody and rhythm. The members of the band
(Joseph Loibant, Tron Niebla, Enric Moes) skillfuly utilize
synthesizers to create a magical world. In a few words, this is
one of the recordings that takes electronic music to its highest
reaches.

"ALIENIKON"
Tuxedo Music
This is no doubt a fascinating album, accompanied by a
magnificient cover, which is reaching a big succes among the fans
of Electronic Cosmic Music. Like the title suggests, the topic
that has inspired Michel Huygen (Neuronium) to compose this music
is the extraterrestrial life. Therefore, the whole release shows
an obvious unearthly character. Although the basic style is the
same as that in previous albums such as "Astralia" or "Psykya",
now strong sequencers appear in some themes, as for example
"Cybernia". The artist offers us his mastery at creating a work
full of beauty and mystery, with melodies that in some occasions
tend to be of a melodic romanticism, while in other instances they
have an enigmatic, or even a dark air. All in all, 64 minutes that
show us a less quiet, more rhythmic, Neuronium yet as
extraordinary as usual.

This album (70 minutes of non-stop ultra cosmic music) contains
historical material from the whole Michel Huygen's career. In
"Ultracosmos", he offers us new versions of many legendary pieces.
The themes are intimately fused among themselves, thus turning
this album into a true river that flows freely. Using his
impressive electronic sounds, Huygen weaves a collection of
melodic pieces, fresh, lively, full of feeling, in some occasions
introspective. True electronic music in its most cosmic side,
shines here in all its glory.

NEURONIUM / MICHEL HUYGEN
Michel Huygen is a Spanish synthesist of Belgian origin who began
his musical career by the early seventies, as a member of several
bands of psychedelic rock. In 1976, he founded the band Neuronium,
together with Carlos Guirao, Albert Giménez and other musicians
who soon after abandoned the band. Giménez left the band after
recording Vuelo Químico (1978), and Guirao also left after
Chromium Echoes (1982). Since then, Huygen is the only member of
Neuronium, accompanied by various musicians occasionally but
composing all the music himself. Some of his albums are signed as
Neuronium, and others with his own name. Huygen has composed movie
soundtracks, has designed synthesizer sounds, and has produced
some other musicians.

JIANNIS:
"NIGHTSESSIONS"
Spheric Music
Listening to this album we return to the magic electronic music
sound of the seventies, in which analogic synthesizers, sequencers
and symphonic environments dominated over everything else. Jiannis
has composed a series of themes that will no doubt attract the
lovers of the Cosmic "look" of the mid seventies. In the most pure
electronic vein, it will delight the lovers of this kind of music
also. The structure of the music consists, apart from the rhythm
in the parts where there is such, of difused melodies that come
and go, dense, atmospheric environments that surround these
melodies, and ghostly sound effects, that in some passages are an
important part of the ambiance. "Apocalypsis II" has an
incomparable magic, and its central part is, in my opinion, one of
the best Space Sequencer themes of all times. The grandiosity of
the music and its symphonism make of the listening of this piece a
complete experience.

BLACKMORE’S NIGHT:
"UNDER A VIOLET MOON"
Platinum
Blackmore’s Night is Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night, a very
special duo, and "Under a Violet Moon" is their new album. Many
people will remember Blackmore as one of the founding members of
the famous bands Deep Purple and Rainbow. This time, however, the
great guitarist follows other musical pathways. "Under a Violet
Moon" is a sonic journey to the Medieval Europe: 16 themes, mainly
traditional melodies and also new songs written by the duo. This
is certainly a beautiful work. The angelic voice of Candice Night,
the guitars, mandolin, drums and other instruments conjure a
provocative sense of beauty. It’s surprising how easily they move
between several sub-genres. A very enjoyable album!

This CD is an elaborated electronic symphony of a Space / New
Instrumental Music orientation. Arcanum has carried out a work
full of symphonism and strength, an album charged with good sonic
vibrations, powerful in some moments, calm and simple in others,
yet always full of shades that cannot leave anyone indifferent.
The artist offers us his mastery at creating a work full of beauty
and emotions, with melodies that in some occasions tend to be of a
warm romanticism, while in other instances they have an enigmatic
air.

"KAROOSHI PORN"
Ninetysix Sounds
The general style of this work can be placed between Synth-Pop and
Techno-Trance. Certain traits of World Music and Ambient can be
detected in some moments. Although there are slow parts, a good
deal of the music is rhythmic. In some occasions the melodies tend
to be of a melodic romanticism, while in other instances they have
a mysterious air. This is a record with interesting electronic
textures and rhythms. It always is pleasant to listen to well
elaborated, varied sounds. This album by Fogelberg, in this sense,
shows us a new, original path that will probably be followed by
many other artists in the future.

BJORN FOGELBERG
This artist composes music between innovative Pop, Ambient and
Techno. His music is strongly based on the utilization of
synthesizers and computers. He is becoming known on the stage of
avantgarde musics.

XALOC:
"XALOC"
Lluís Parellada (Xaloc) is a promising and young Spanish composer.
His music is mainly electronic, but also melodic and full of sonic
textures (including piano, percussion, guitar and tribal sounds).
Xaloc is an excellent album, it contains 10 themes, some more
melodic than others, but always showing the style of the author,
and a lot of talent! The music is a pleasing and highly listenable
mixture of old electronic influences and modern pathways. It both
entrances and motivates. There is a remarkable synergy between the
music and the artist. Lluís Parellada is certainly a very welcome
addition to the Spanish panorama.

JAMES JOHNSON:
"SURRENDER"
Zero Music
"Surrender" contains three tracks. Two of them are long, slow,
mainly electronic and cosmic themes. The other one is more
acoustic and short. The album has been composed by James Johnson
(synths, samples, piano) and is the latest product from Zero
Music, a label devoted to space/ambient music. For people who are
hungry for this type of music, this CD is a perfect choice. The
album works on may levels: it is relaxing, it is a sonic
experience, and it shows how the author understands music. If you
like ambient, this CD could be for you.

KEVIN RICHARD:
"INVENTING FIRE"
Da Vinci's Notebook Records
The general style of this work can be described as New
Instrumental Music. Through 12 themes eminently melodic in nature
in which Kevin Richard utilizes all sorts of electronic keyboards
and percussion, the listener feels trapped and attracted towards
the personal journey of the artist. The music presents classical
elements as well as some touches of Ambient. The electronic
keyboards have quite a leading role, although they are accompanied
by other instruments. The composer is accompanied by Steve
Cochrane (guitar), Al Damiano (guitar), Keith Hotte (guitar), and
Andy Smith (keyboard solo on "Above The Great Divide").

JOHN DOAN:
"WAYFARER"
Hearts of Space
Doan, the master harp guitarist, invite us to a Celtic pilgrimage.
"Wayfarer" contains 11 themes, all composed by him. His
inspiration comes from several journeys to sacred Celtic places,
where people have been looking for answers during the last
millennium. Doan uses a 20 string harp guitar. This is the main
instrument, but there are others with an important presence. For
example, the great Billy Oskay plays violin and viola, and Jim
Chapman plays whistle. Randal Bays, Phil & Gale Neumann, Cantores
Ecclesia, Nancy Ives, Mike Syder and Carl Scott also contribute to
the album. The previous work by John Doan ("Eire: Isle of the
Saints") was voted "Best Celtic Album of the Year" by the NAV
Music Awards. "Wayfarer" will probably follow the same path: it is
a vibrant, visual soundscape, a perfect blend between Celtic
tradition and modern ideas.

THE GREAT KAT
Born Katherine Thomas in Swindon, England, The Great Kat began her
classical music education at the age of seven on piano, and at
nine on the violin in Long Island, NY, USA. After winning numerous
competitions, Kat won a full scholarship to The Juilliard School
in New York City at the age of fifteen where she graduated with
honors. Kat has toured internationally as a classical violin
soloist. After realizing that "classical music is dead", the Great
Kat discovered heavy-metal and brought her classical virtuosity to
the guitar, becoming one of the world's fastest guitarists and one
of the few composers to combine classical music with heavy-metal.

JON O’BERGH:
"MILLENNIAL LANDSCAPES"
Timescape Music
Following Jon’s own words, the music on this CD explores diverse
responses to the coming millennium, whether it’s apprehension,
celebration, optimism or whatever. The album contains a mix of
electronic and ethnic sounds. You could call it New Age but I
think it is more than that. In fact, he studied piano performance
and composition while performing with a southern California rock
dance band, and he has also written songs, music for television
and concert music. He uses this background to compose a very
satisfactory work, 13 themes which range from rhythmic melodies to
cosmic passages. If you look for ethereal soundscapes, tribal
melodies and hypnotic sensations, this album will probably be of
interest.

MAIRE BRENNAN:
"WHISPER TO THE WILD WATER"
Word Records
This is the fourth solo work by Máire Brennan. While continuing to
sing with Clannad, the great Irish Celtic group, she begun
recording her own albums in 1992. The previous work, "Perfect
Time", was very successful. It sold 250.000 copies and won several
major awards. "Whisper" is another step forward. Here you will
find Celtic and pop melodies, poetic lyrics sung in English and
Gaelic, old instruments (Uileann pipes, fiddles, harp) and also
new instruments (keyboards, contemporary percussion, electric
guitar). But, of course, and one more time, Máire’s angelic voice
is the main trait. The album also includes some words performed by
her five-year-old son, and a duet with her mother Baba. A very
pleasing recording, with many sounds and melodies which recall
peaceful images. Delightful.

Maire Brennan is internationally known as the singer of the band

To create this album, the band L'Ham de Foc inspired mostly in the
ancient Mediterranean culture. This is a release full of warm
emotions, that explores the musical terrains placed between World
Music and medieval music. Some pieces are slow, and others possess
a very agile rhythm. A common characteristic is the strong
presence of the melody. A certain nostalgic air is present in most
of the themes, although there are others with merry, festive
passages. L'Ham de Foc is formed by Efren Lopez, Mara Aranda, Pep
Ahuir, Joansa Maravilla, Xavi Navarro, Carlos Sanchis, Diego Lopez
and Eduard Navarro. The following musicians have participated in
