DREAMING WITH SERPENTS BY GUSTAVO AGUILAR
Gustavo Aguilar is a percussionist, improviser, and composer
dedicated to contemporany music. He has concertizzed in Australia,
Austria, South Korea, and throught the United States, performing
his own improvisational compositions. His solo CD "Dreaming with
serpents", released on the Acoustic Levitation label, features
solo works written for him by Wadada Leo Smith, John Bergamo and
Todd Sickafoose, and duets with the composers written by Gustavo.
This is one unusual album, fresh and innovative, which no doubt
will contribute to increasing the reputation of the artist.

PAUL WINTER'S WINTER SOLSTICE CELEBRATION PERFORMANCES
Performances of Paul Winter's 21st Annual Winter Solstice
Celebration, a musical, theatrical and environmental spectacle,
are in the huge Cathedral of St. John the Divine
at 7.30pm on Thursday 14 December
at 7.30pm on Friday 15 December
at 2pm and at 7.30pm on and Saturday 16 December

Paul Winter was honored to be a presenter at the Native American
Music Awards in Albuquerque (New Mexico) on 11 November.

Chuck van Zyl has agreed to release the music of his double
cassette "The sound museum" on Groove Unlimited. Release date is
November/December 2000. The music was previously only available on
cassette under the artist name XISLE with the exception of the
track "Beyond the known horizon" which appeared on Chuck's CD "The
relic".

Lionel Rolfe has just written a book called DEATH AND REDEMPTION
IN LONDON & L.A. The nephew of the late, great violinist Yehudi
Menuhin, Rolfe's book gives a lot of personal insight into
Menuhin. This book is available only as an ebook here:

World Class
This album consists of an interesting mixture of styles that can
be grouped within the World Music, ranging from Middle Eastern
melodies to European Techno, Indian ragas, Algerian rai, Western
funk, romantic rhythms in the purest Italian essence, or
Industrial Trance ,and even current pop rhythms, all that together
with a futuristic use of electronic instruments, in a masterful
combination with traditional, string or percussive instruments
such as the Kurd saaz, the Indian tabla ,. the Senegalese djembe ,
the Eastern daf or the darboukka, at the same time using the
microtonal scales typical of the Middle East. The members of this
band come from different ethnic groups as well (Kurdistan,
Algeria, India, Iraq and Italy) and are inspired in their music,
working as a craft-workshop, by the different traditions to create
an eclectic brand of music, with converging projects whose aim is
to enrich the audience with the flavor that the music of the many
cultures existing in our world bring, while at the same time
fitting all this into the World Music of the new millenium in the
Western calendar.

ELONIA:
"MYSTIC VELVET"

Elonia is a project by German artist Manfred Brembach within the
frame of New Age or Ambient Music, full of poetry and beauty,
which leads the listener to a world of wondrous soundscapes by
means of the masterful use of synthesizers, flute whistles,
guitars and vocals, all this shrouded into a magic mantle, a
mystic adventure throughout nine suggestive themes evoking a world
of fantasy that in a way reflect a slight influence of such
composers as Oldfield, Kitaro, Cusco or Vangelis, among others.
The CD is accompanied by an eight-page booklet with lyrics
inspired by fantastic tales and beautiful, dream-like images and
photographs, all this conforming a whole that appeals to our
imagination. The music turns out to be dreamy, relaxing, even
oniric, at times soft, at times lively and blissful, with some
melancholy touches, with warm textures and soft colors, always
bringing to the mind of the listener the vision of magic unicorns,
leprechauns and elves, the little or the great marvels of Nature
such as the peace of green grasslands, the wonders of a quiet dawn
or dusk, the sound of the sea and seagulls in a mysterious island,
the changing shadows of a tree or a little spider weaving its web.
The ethereal vocals provided by Andrea Köhler, or Micho Russsell
complementing some of the tracks make of this album a joyful,
peaceful experience, a tranquil musical journey, a flight of
imagination to the realms of Fantasy, which will no doubt please a
wide audience.

The members of this duo, singer Kim Waters and multi-
instumentalist Hans Christian, draw their inspiration from the
ancient Vedic culture of India to gather eight sacred Sanskrit
chants and devotional Bengali songs, mostly written by Srila
Bhaktivinoda Thakura, where modern and ethnic, traditional
elements are masterfully combined, transmitting to the listener an
atmosphere of mystic spiruality that transcends all cultures. The
contemporary musical arrangements by Hans and Kim bring the
Western audience to a dimension full of peace, with the airs of a
New Age in a chaotic world, in search of the essence of Divine
Love.

from an ancient musical lineage back to the sixteenth century.
Trained as a classical singer in the purest forms of the vocal
arts from his homeland, the Punjab (India), in this CD the artist
presents with unparalelled mastery a repertoire of traditional
poetic love songs, originated in the 19th. century, knows as
ghazals, together with raga-based melodies, in a wonderful mix of
percussion, synths and electro-acoustic guitars, thus entering
what can be considered the World Music of the 21st. century.

A single 22-minute composition constitutes this mini-CD, one of
the new releases in the collection of Concrete Music "Cinema pour
l'oreille" of the association Metamkine. The structure of the work
is based on a dense electronic texture, metallic, roaring, static,
yet in a permanent evolution, with shades of sound that change
subtly second by second. Listening to this CD suggests at once the
profound depths of the universe and the powerful presence of
massive bodies as catalysts of colossal forces, gravitating,
threateningly, in the immensity of the cosmos.
