REVIEWS:

MICHEL HUYGEN:
"PLACEBO"
Neuronium Records
The new album by Michel Huygen, "Placebo", is a daring release.
Showing that the artist is capable of giving true surprises, in
this occasion he breaks with transcendental space adventures, and
offers us a work dominated by rythm, far from cosmic lanes, yet
radically electronic. A music brimming with dynamism, it injects
vitality into the listener. Huygen links Classical Techno with
Trance, Psychedelic Rock and even some areas of avantgarde Jazz.
The palette of electrified, metalized sounds, contributes to
create the cybernetic ambience towards which the cover of the
album and the title of the first piece ("CyberEnergy") already
hint. The structure of the CD is rythmic, sustaining the melodies
in itself. Atmospheric percussion and powerful bass motives
increase the strength of the rythm The sound effects that come and
go throughout the entire album are not mere adornments, but rather
constitute an integral part of rythm and melody. Furthermore, some
of them appear to wink at the electronic devices more common in
our cities.
JORGE MUNNSHE

NEURONIUM & VANGELIS
"IN LONDON (PLATINUM EDITION)"
Neuronium Records
In 1981, Neuronium and Vangelis produced one of the clearest
samples of what can be done with synthesizers in the field of
electronic, Space Music. Although the original recording was done
in an analogic system, in the legendary Vangelis' Nemo studio, in
London, Huygen's technical ability has allowed for a complete
remastering and its presentation with improved mixes. The main
theme has been treated in three different versions ("In London",
"In London (After hours)" and "In London (radio edit)", of a
decreasing duration. Listening to the album we return to the
Vangelis / Neuronium sound of the late seventies, early eighties,
in which analogic sound and symphonic environments dominate over
everything else. Yet this CD is not specifically aimed at
nostalgic listeners or collectors: True electronic music in its
most cosmic side, shines here in all its glory. This re-release is
partly due to the pressure of the fans of both musicians, as many
of them could not get a copy of the album when it was first
released.
MANUEL MONTES

NEURONIUM / MICHEL HUYGEN
Michel Huygen is a Spanish synthesist of Belgian origin who began
his musical career by the early seventies, as a member of several
bands of psychedelic rock. In 1976, he founded the band Neuronium,
together with Carlos Guirao, Albert Giménez and other musicians
who soon after abandoned the band. Giménez left the band after
recording Vuelo Químico (1978), and Guirao also left after
Chromium Echoes (1982). Since then, Huygen is the only member of
Neuronium, accompanied by various musicians occasionally but
composing all the music himself. Some of his albums are signed as
Neuronium, and others with his own name. Huygen has composed movie
soundtracks, has designed synthesizer sounds, and has produced
some other musicians.

CONSTANCE DEMBY:
"SANCTUM SANCTUORUM"
Neuronium Records
"Sanctum Sanctuorum" is the first album by Constance Demby in five
years since her "Aeterna" in 1997. This is a long-time matured
work, brimming with mysticism and emotion, and surely is a
reflection of the very life of the composer in these five years.
Continuing with the same path of grand, powerful orchestrations,
as in her previous releases, although with a perhaps more
notorious use of samplers, this release will no doubt appeal the
followers of Space Music.
JORGE MUNNSHE

CONSTANCE DEMBY:
"SET FREE"
Neuronium Records
This re-release of "Set Free", with a new 32-bits re-
masterization by Michel Huygen, and a previously unreleased theme,
constitutes for the followers of the new musics that back then had
no chance to get the CD, a wonderful opportunity to get what, in
the opinion of many, is a masterpiece of space music in its most
melodic, symphonic side. Melodies that range from sensuality to
epic, orchestrations that blend Classicism with ethnic influences,
and musical structures of a great diversity are the basis for a
work that, far from being an album only for the initiated, can
appeal to a very diverse audience.
JORGE MUNNSHE

CONSTANCE DEMBY
Constance Demby initiated her musical activities in the sixties.
She belonged to the band Central Maine Power and Light Company. In
the seventies she began her solo career as a composer of
innovative music. Her first album,"Skies above Skies", was
released in 1978.
Essential recordings:
-SKIES ABOVE SKIES
-SUNBORNE
-SACRED SPACE MUSIC
-LIVE AT ALARON
-NOVUS MAGNIFICAT
-LIGHT OF THIS WORLD
-SET FREE
-AETERNA
-SANCTUM SANCTUORUM

PASCAL LANGUIRAND:
"RENAISSANCE"
Neuronium Records
The new album by Pascal Languirand, the well-known author of
"Living on Video" (Trans-X) is called "Renaissance". This is a
work of electronic music widely varied and wealthy, full of
surprises, where the artist has been working for a year and a
half. Some tracks are instrumental. Others include his voice,
modulated with unusual vocal techniques. With great mastery, he
weaves a baroque tapestry with elements of Synth-Pop, Space Music,
and even with a clear medieval air. In actual fact, there are
passages that are like open windows to the Middle Ages. Pascal
sings in Latin, Medieval French and present-day French. The album
also includes a new version, in French, of the theme "Solo
pensando en ti", whose music was originally composed by Michel
Huygen.
JORGE MUNNSHE

CONSTANCE DEMBY / NEURONIUM / JONN SERRIE / PASCAL LANGUIRAND /
MICHEL HUYGEN / SANTI PICO:
"THE FUTURE OF MUSIC... NOW. VOL. 1"
Neuronium Records
With a suggestive title that describes the contents of the CD as
the future of music, Neuronium Records presents the first
compilation of the label, with pieces by the five first artists
here released. The selection has been done by Michel Huygen, who
has also taken care of re-mastering. The contents of the sampler
is as follows: Constance Demby: "Hallelujah", "Mother of the
World", "Waltz of Joy". Michel Huygen / Neuronium: "Hyperhypnose",
"Numerica", "Tenderness", "Homo Erectus". Jonn Serrie: "And the
stars go with you", "Deep mystery". Pascal Languirand: "Just a
sound in the night", "Lui Donner Mon Ame", "Mascaras". Santi Pico:
"Wings of a bird", "Miskatonic II (Part 1)" The listener will find
a great variety of personal styles, with a common trait: ideal
music to let imagination fly free.
JORGE MUNNSHE

SANTI PICO:
"WINGS OF A BIRD"
Neuronium Records
Santi Pico, a magnificient guitarist known both for his solo work
and his collaboration with Neuronium as a musician, proves in this
album the possibilities of guitar to evoke warm emotions. Highly
praised when first released (under the name of "Miskatonic II",
that is also the title of one of the pieces), this re-release will
allow the music by Pico to approach new audiences, while at the
same time meaning for some of his followers the opportunity they
were expecting to get this album. Six are the tracks that
constitute the CD. All of them have been composed by him, except
for "Monica", composed together with Cristina Poch. Manel Rabinad
plays the flute in another theme, In the album, Santi Pico fuses
New Instrumental Music with elements typical of Rock ballads, and
certain touches of Jazz with a Latin flavor. The result is a
precious collection of melodies with a romantic air, sometimes
happy, sometimes melancholy, not lacking in some occasions a
suggestive aura of mystery.
JORGE MUNNSHE

FRANK VAN BOGAERT:
"HUMAN"
Groove Music
Like Frank himself tells us in the leaflet accompanying his new
album, in "Human" he has bet for improvisation rather more than in
his previous works. The result of having allowed himself to follow
the inspiration of the moment has been fully fruitful. On the one
hand, we have the basic style of his previous albums, where he
portrays a musical landscape of multiple influences. On the other
hand, we find a warmth and spontainety that remind us of those
typical in a live performance. Between melodic Synth Pop and the
New Instrumental Music, all the CD has an air mainly blissful,
optimistic, full of positive energy.

MAX CORBACHO:
"FAR BEYOND THE IMMOBILE POINT"
Mp3.com
>From the darkness of remote intergalactic space to the brigtness
of stars, Corbacho's music has an energy that gives the listener
the feeling of belonging into an eternal, endless pulse of an
ever-expanding universe, leading our imagination through the
immensity of the cosmos in a tireless quest in the realms of
wonder. No doubt this CD will appeal to the fans of Max Corbacho's
music as well as the lovers of Ambient and Space Music in general.
HECTOR JORDAN

MAX CORBACHO:
"THE RESONANT MEMORY OF EARTH"
SpaceForMusic.com Records
As if it were a transmutation of the natural identity of the Earth
in sounds and melodies, Max Corbacho has created an inspired
earthly symphony in an Ambient key. Utilizing synthesizers to
create dense atmospheres, he sculpts landscapes ranging from the
crystaline to the rocky, likewise re-creating the thick vegetation
of the rain forests or the peaceful flow of the clouds in the sky.
Divided into four parts, this work takes us to a voyage throughout
the most impressive scenarios of the planet we live in. "The
resonant memory of Earth" represents a good sample of the style of
this synthesist, ideal for those who don't know him yet, as well
as highly reccommended for his usual followers.

BJORN LYNNE:
"COLONY"
With the epic force of a cosmic odissey, guitarist Bjorn Lynne re-
creates the future of human exploration of space and the
establishment of colonies in other planets, under the prisma of
his personal style. Starting from the fusion between Space Rock
and Synth Pop, he weaves a solid tapestry of themes where we can
also find elements typical of Trance, Space Sequencer Music, and
New Instrumental Music. As in his previous works, Lynne not only
shows his great talent as a composer but also his mastery in
arrangements and performance. All the tracks have a great strength
that impresses the listener from the first moment
EDGAR KOGLER

BJORN LYNNE
Bjorn Lynne is originally from Norway, where he spent his
childhood and youth. In 1995 his music brought him to England,
where he has now settled down in the Yorkshire countryside,
working in his own sound studio, called Studio17. After two self-
published CD albums, he signed with Centaur Discs in 1995, and
released Dreamstate. His earlier albums were mostly electronic and
made with synthesizers. On the later albums, he uses more guitars
(acoustic and electric), basses and other acoustic instruments.
Bjorn's music has been compared to Mike Oldfield, Tangerine Dream,
Genesis, Pink Floyd and others.
Essential recordings:
-Hobbits & Spaceships (1992 - self published)

FUZZHEAD:
"FUZZHEAD IS LOVE"
Without Fear Recordings
Preceded by the great expectation of numerous followers of the
alternative musics that got to know this music or have heard about
it, the release of this impressive album by Fuzzhead is going to
satisfy the interest generated and will no doubt surpass all
expectations. Fuzzhead, the band created around Bill Weita, has
been compared, in more than one sense, to some of the most
legendary bands of musical avantgarde, like for instance, Can. In
"Fuzzhead is Love", we find a daring quest through psychedelic
regions hardly ever or even never explored before, from a
perspective near to Funk, with elements from other currents that
sound perfectly integrated in the general outline of the album.
Precisely this is one of the best assets of the work: its
coherence. Nothing to do with aimless improvisations full of
gratuitous noisiness, but rather a firm and clear highway that
makes us travel through strange, surrealist places, yet absolutely
real ones.
ALEJANDRO HINOJOSA

FUZZHEAD:
"TECHNICOLOR SOUL"
Without Fear Recordings
Fuzzhead, the experimental rock band created by Bill Weita, marks
a before and and after in the history of avantgarde Pop. Now, his
album "Technicolor Soul", digitally re-mastered by the leader of
the band, is available in the alternative label Without Fear
Recordings. With a great deal of ease and imagination, the themes
break with casings, bypass barriers among styles and board
psychedelic worlds from the realm of Funk and experimental Pop.
Themes like for instance "Take me to the River" flow with
unsuspected freshnes through paths of Psychedelia that have been
seldom tread. An important part of the merit of the album is the
fact that it succeeds in reaching these peaks or abysses without
falling into arid experimentation that disturbs musical
perception. Neither exaggerated stridencies, nor shapeless
noisism, only a well planned path towards solitary, marginal
corners of Rock.
ALEJANDRO HINOJOSA

FUZZHEAD:
"WHAT'S GOIN' ON?"
Without Fear Recordings
When Bill Weita created Fuzzhead, the band destined to shape his
most visionary personal projects, he opened a door that surely,
without him, would have continued to be closed for a long time.
With an unusual lucidity, he started to paint with live colors a
collection of sound chimeras transformed into a psychedelic
reality by means of completely unusual musical architectures. In
"What's goin' on?" we find a perfect practical demonstration of
these approaches. To board Psychedelia from perspectives not
exclusively based on Rock, and besides, to do this with ease, with
spontainety, requires a creative fluency that is not available to
everybody. The wonderful result thus reached in this, one of the
most risky works of Fuzzhead, throws us into a surrealism as solid
as rock and as clear as the most defined of musical genres.Fleeing
from fruitless experimentation and from uncontrolled noisiness,
the music surprises us per se.
ALEJANDRO HINOJOSA

Without Fear Recordings (Official website):

COLETTE & PHIL:
"LISTEN TO THE CHILDREN"
Mysterysong Productions
With a remarkable ease and freshness, the duo Colette & Phil give
us a wonderful CD single with their most recent three
compositions. Without breaking with the basic lines of their
charismatic style, they do approach music from a more dynamic,
agile perspective, which can be labeled within the avantgarde Pop,
with connections towards New Instrumental Music. "Listen to the
Children (Indigo Mix)" perfectly embodies this perspective, A
theme with a great strength, it is an emotive rock ballad, with an
avantgarde flavor. "Are You the Stranger?" combines the suggestive
voice of Colette with a melody that ranges from the warm to the
mysterious, and a powerful rhythm, very successful, rich in
ethereal sonorities. "Time Traveler" presents us with the side of
the duo most nearest to the structures typical of New Instrumental
Music. This is a piece with a great strength, with a
transcendental, nostalgic air, basically instrumental, that
immediately captures the attention of the listener.

EDWARD ARTEMIEV:
"THREE ODES"
Electroshock Records
In "Three Odes" we can listen to the master lines of the style of
the Russian composer Edward Artemiev, one of the first musicians
in the world to use a sinthesizer to approach new ways of
understanding music, and a world pioneer of the New Musics.
Throughout his long career, Artemiev has gone beyond all the
frontiers among genres. He had the daring initiative to do this
when nobody dared do it. In this CD we have good samples of his
wide musical vision. Instrumental classicism, Symphonic Rock,
Space Music, SynthPop, World Music, electronic experimentation,
and other paths, appear as those travelled by the artist
throughout the pieces here included. In all the cases his talent
is most remarkable, though his condition as a visionary is made
more obvious in the least conventional passages. For instance, his
approach to Space Music reflects a strength that only a few stars
of this genre have succeeded in transmitting. Melodies that
impress from the first moment, unearthly ambiences whose absolute
clarity provides them with an overwhelming realism, powerful
rhythms capable of transmitting all the magnificience of an epic
tale, and a perfect coherence among all the elements.
JORGE MUNNSHE

EDWARD ARTEMYEV
Edward Artemyev began to compose electronic music in the early
1960s. He became interested in scholarly classical music and the
most avant-garde Rock. He is the author of about a hundred and
fifty TV and movie soundtracks. He composed the cantata of the
Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980, for a symphonic orchestra,
choirs, a Rock band and synthesizer; a very unorthodox daring for
those times and country. In 1989 he composed a work for the
Bicentennial of the French Revolution, commissioned by the
organisers of the Festival of Electronic Music in Bourges. Some of
his best known works are: "The Seven Gates into the World of
Satori", "Mood-Pictures", "The Warmth of the Earth", "Peregrini",
and of course his movie soundtracks for the films of Andrei
Tarkovski (on whose memorial he composed a special theme), as well
as those of Andrei Konchalovski and Nikita Mikhalkov. He
alternates his studio work periods with frequent trips to the
international festivals where he is invited as a guest artist. He
has received honors in many countries, as for instance the United
States, and he has also been appointed for a variety of important
posts, as for example one in the International Confederation of
Electroacoustic Music, of the UNESCO. He has composed soundtracks
for the movie industry in Hollywood.

ARTEMIY ARTEMIEV & PETER FROHMADER:
"TRANSFIGURATION"
Electroshock Records
A new collaboration between Artemiy Artemiev and Peter Frohmader,
that provides us with another musical adventure of discoveries.
The alchemy betweeen both musicians functions well, and we have
impressive passages where numerous elements converge, a priori
strange among themselves, but they do fit to shape music ranging
from Psychedelia to Space, Industrial and other avantgarde
currents. Artemiy Artemiev possesses, like his father, a wide
experience in the creation of movie soundtracks on the one hand,
and works of electroacoustic experimentation on the other hand.
Peter Frohmader on his part is one of the avantgarde musicians
with a greatest charisma in Europe. No wonder, therefore, that the
collaboration between both musicians is always a sound surprise
box.
EDGAR KOGLER

ARTEMIY ARTEMIEV
Artemiy Artemiev is a Russian composer who works in the style of
electronic, electroacoustic & experimental music. He was born in
1966 in the family of well-known Russian composer of electronic
music Edward Artemiev (his father). His activities are closely
connected with film, theatre & TV industry. Since 1989, he has
composed the music for more than 60 Russian productions (TV,
theatre, radio...). He began his career as a keyboardist in
various Moscow rock groups. In 1987 he began experimenting with
sound, synthesizers, samplers and computers. In 1996 he began to
produce TV-programme "Electroshock" devoted to electronic,
electroacoustic, experimental and avantgarde music. In 1997 he
became a member of Russian Association of Electroacoustic Music.
Also in 1997 along with his friend film-director & producer

DER SPYRA:
"ELEVATOR TO HEAVEN"
Manikin Records
"Elevator to Heaven" is a triple CD brimming with interesting,
varied pieces. Wolfram Spyra boards electronic music from two main
perspectives. One of them can be classified under Trance, Ambient
and Space Music. The other can be considered within New
Instrumental Music. Both are well represented in this triple
album. Spyra has a good talent to create soft melodies and
powerful sequences, a skill he uses to build themes of a great
impact. His live performances also possess a great stregth, as
reflected in the pieces of this kind appearing here. "Elevator to
Heaven" is no doubt a work witt a great artistic solidity.
EDGAR KOGLER

SERGE BLENNER:
"VIRTUALIS"
MdeC Editions
In the twelve tracks included in this Cd, Serge Blenner shows once
again his good work in the ambient and contemporary musical
universe. He himself explains this album as the 15th. chapter of
what he calls "Computer Acoustic Music". The remarkable
combination of electronic textures with orchestral passages the
artist realizes results in a successful creation wrapped in
sophisticated melodies brimming with poetry. The title of this
work is explained in the leaflet acconmpanying the Cd thus giving
us the idea of what inspires Blenner in this occasion. In all,
this is fresh, suggestive music that will no doubt appeal to a
wide audience.

SARA AYERS:
"INTERIORS"
Dark Wood Recordings
In this new album, Sara Ayers offers us ten suggestive tracks
evoking thought, emotion and memory, in what the artist defines as
a non-linear music. Dark passages give way to brilliant
soundscapes, the familiar is intertwined with the mysterious, calm
and frenzy seem to pursue one another, and all that creates some
sort of reflecting universe that leads us to feel rather than hear
the music this versatile artist offers us. No doubt this is an
album we should include in our collection.

TALES:
"THE SESKIAN WARS"
Somewhere in time Records
Conceived as the ideal soundtrack for the epic narrative contained
in the cover, this album includes eight tracks of eminently
wondrous Space Music. The opening theme, "Sagitarius Gate", makes
a masterful use of sequencers, reminding the listener of the best
tradition of Tangerine Dream, and flows naturally towards the
following soundscapes. The composer develops each piece with an
absolute mastery of electronic technology thus resulting in an
exciting galactic saga that will no doubt delight the followers of
the science fiction genre.
DREXA NICHOLS

BRANNAN LANE:
"TO EARTH AND BACK"
SpaceFor Music.com Records
Flowing through Space Music, Ambient and Atmospheric Music, in
this occasion, veteran composer Brannan Lane offers us six
wonderful tracks once again reflecting the versatility of this
artist in what turns out to be two themes, the first giving its
name to the Cd in four parts, and the second, "Boundless",
consisting of two parts. With an obvious mastery of electronic
technology, Lane paints convincing soundscapes that lead the
listener to let imagination fly freely through the musical
universe this expert composer suggests.
MONICA ANDRADES

JAMES JOHNSON and ROBERT SCOTT THOMPSON:
"FORGOTTEN PLACES"
Zero Music / Acourant Records
The ten themes in this Cd flow through Ambient soundscapes, Space
Music and atmospheric universes, thus resulting in a relaxing
album that takes the listener through different, suggestive sonic
ambiences, in some occasions almost ethereal, with acoustic piano
touches intertwined with the purely electronic. This album will no
doubt appeal the followers of these musical genres.
