Re: [anawme] kunath flutes

I would like to know and speak with the Waldorf teachers with whom this was
designed. ANAWME would be insterested in having a discussion about this!
Let's use our web resource to carry on this discussion.....
A recorder is a recorder, The bore is conical and does not create the same
tone color as a flute with a cylindrical bore. The recorder produces a tone
very rich in overtones, which is NOT healthful to young ears. The Choroir
instruments were designed very specifically for the way the children hear
and listen! This was done with great study and consideration according to
Steiner's indications of the physiology and spiritual nature of the child in
the light of Anthroposophy. There are those who keep trying to change or
even negate these instruments either out of pure economic reasons or out of
their own resistance to live into and learn something new. The Kunath
recorders are great as RECORDERS, but not as a substitute for the Choroi
flutes and their special and INTENTIONAL sound. You will, of course, hear
all the pro arguments for them and for other instruments, but it is only
fair to hear the pro arguments for the Choroi flutes, as well. After
studying with Par Ahlbom, one of the creators of the Choroi flutes and a
long time Waldorf teacher, I feel that the Choroi flutes are the most
appropriate insturments for the children (until they switch to recorder in
Grade 6 or so).
There is my own 2 cents worth - and as you can probably tell, I am a purist
and an advocate for what I feel is the BEST for the children after my many
years of studying and teaching. I choose NOT to give in to purely economic
or other reasons when it comes to bringing quality musical experiences to
the children - nothing is worth giving them less than they deserve!!!
