Dear Richard,
I have heard of the Master's music but have never seen it or heard it, and I
would love to get a copy of it. Do you have scores for sale?

Hi Jason,
Fabian Lochner wrote new music for the Shepherd's Play in '98, and I have it and
my school has done the Shepherd's Play with his music (mostly) since then. I
know he had plans to publish it, and recorded a CD, but don't know what the
status is currently. Because of that, I'm not sure about giving it out. Fabian
should be contacted.

   Hi music folks,

One of my colleagues asked me if I knew anything about "new music" for
the Shepherd's Play. She said it was composed within the last few
years. Being new at the school, I don't know anything about the play
at all or any music for it, but I told her I'd ask around. Any ideas,
anyone? I think maybe they're looking for a bit of variety this year.

Thanks!

Dear Friends, I have just uploaded Mozart's Symphony No. 1, written
when he was 8 years old on tour with Leopold and Fanny (in London.) I
transposed it from Eb to D to make it accessible to Middle School
Orchestra. The horn parts were deleted since we have no horns and
they were doubled in other instruments. The flute and alto recorder
play the oboe parts. I should not have pulled them out on separate
lines as it will be more practical for them to play from the combined
oboe part, giving them the flexibility to choose who takes the higher
part depending on the sound. The bass part is simplified. I have not
worked with the students on this piece yet. I am working on The
Abduction from Seraglio Overture. Let me know if you use this.
   THanks, Carol Adee

I think the first choice for study would be to discuss it live at a prearranged
time, HOWEVER, I know how hard it is to get several people to agree on the same
time and date to chat, so....I'm thinking we should try that first but also be
willing to do it the other way if necessary: read it and then post our thoughts.
I look forward to this - it is a most amazing set of lectures. I have read them
several times, and feel that each time I am reading them for the first time!
Christoph Andreas Lindenberg (Director of the Dorion Therapeutic Music Training)
believes that Chapters 5 & 6 are THE quintessential chapters for understanding
music from an antrhoposophical point of view, expecially pedagogically. For our
purposes, we should definitley read them in order and digest them very SLOWLY.
Let me know when the adventure begins!!!

Jason,

Thanks for sharing the URL for this resource. Perhaps each of us interested
in participating in an online discussion group can down load the lectures
using the link below. (An anonymous donation made these lectures available
to us online for FREE!) :P

Just go to www.rsarchive.org Select lectures, select the letter "I" from
the bottom of the page, and select Inner Nature of Music.

The online study can be done one of two ways, either we pre-read the text
and
1) Discuss it live at a specific prearranged time and date OR
2) We just post our thoughts at our convenience

Please reply to this email with your preferences and level of interest in a
study.

Hi all,

Regarding the Inner Nature of Music lectures, I've found that the Rudolf
Steiner archive does indeed
have them online, which is new since I was
trying to find them last spring. Here's the link:

<http://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA/index.php?ga=GA0283>
http://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA/index.php?ga=GA0283

By the way, the RSArchive is offering text ad banners at a rate of
$15.00 for 3000 viewings- it might be another way to get the word
about ANAWME out to anthroposophists...?

Andrea,

Thanks for your email. You should be able to access the members list via
the members section since you are a moderator.

I look forward to the approved logo art work. I will upload it upon
receipt.

I understand that there are a few online study groups. It appears that the
"How to know Higher Worlds" study group publishes some text on their blog
and sets up a time and date to discuss it online which we could do via this
web ring. I do think it would be nice to add some Anthroposophical study to
this ring. I would imagine that if the book is out of print, we'd be doing
them a favor by sharing it online bit by bit (not in a publishable format).
I leave it to you to determine the feasibility of this.

Way to go on the banner and the LILIPOH ads. This will support ANAWME
visibility dramatically.

Warm regards to you all!

Hi, Bianca,
I have a copy of the book you're referring to - The Inner Nature and the
Experience of Tone. Don't we need permission from Anthroposophic Press to
reprint any of it? It seems to indicate that on the inside of the book! It
is, indeed, currently out of print. I have a bit of a concern about trying
to do a study of this work online. I have done a LOT of studies and I can't
imagine trying to do this online. I will keep thinking about it.
I am currently trying to contact them to get permission to use the drawing
of the eurythmy form of the intervals (that we did with Brigida this summer)
for the logo for ANAWME. My husband, Michael, drew a sylized version of it
and it looks wonderful. I am waiting to hear back about how to go about the
process of getting permission. Usually, one has to go through the
Goetheanum itself in Dornach to get permission to use any of Steiner's
drawings so I will let you know when I have the permission.
I also have contacted Bob & Nancy at the Waldorf World website to put our
link on there as a sponsor and to have a banner ad that appears at the top
of the home page on a rotating basis. I am also checking on putting an ad
in Lillipoh but I need to wait for permission to use the logo before we can
do that.
I'm glad to hear that Richard finally has email. I will send him a note
right away with the above information.
Thanks for everything. Keep me posted.
How many members do we have in the Yahoo group? Is there a way to see the
list?

Greetings ANAWME Web Ring Members!

How are ya'll doing? Hope that all is well. Should any of you have a copy
of Steiner's book for music teachers, I'd love to publish a paragraph or two
a month for us to do an online study. I understand that it's out of print.

Please also feel free to upload or request support in uploading any lesson
plans, verses, singing games, etc. I am hopeful that we will expand our
music resources and therefore attract more Waldorf class & music teachers to
join us to support ANAWME.

Remember to spread the word about ANAWME & our upcoming conference in Summer

Have a wonderful school year!

Hi, Bianca,
I have a copy of the book you're referring to - The Inner Nature and the
Experience of Tone.
Is there a way to see the
list?
Andrea

2006.

Have a wonderful school year!

Dear all,

Yes, I'll confess, I promoted Walter to VP. Oops! I don't know how I got
that idea as I was working on the web site. I think Walter was a little
worried, but never fear Walter, it was only a mistake and I've got Robert's
name back in the slot. If anyone else wants a promotion, just let me know!
By the way, I'd welcome suggestions for the site- it might take me a while
to fix, but it will happen eventually! I'd love some more informational
content as well.

I would love to see some favorite verses that people use in their music
classes. I've been really trying to discover what's right for the students
at Emerson Waldorf School. I've written a short verse for the lower grades'
music classes opening and closing, but haven't been doing verses with the
upper grades for music class or chorus. In those classes, I of course greet
each student at the door and shake hands, then we start class with a more
formal whole-group greeting and then a "warm-up" routine suited to the grade
level and class. We finish with a goodbye similar to the greeting. What
types of routines do other teachers use?

I hope your school year is off to a great start!

Hi, Walter,
Thanks for your note. I will get the book out in the mail sometime this
week. I was so happy to receive them!
I also noticed that you were now vice-president of ANAWME and wondered if
you had promoted yourself or something
(LOL).

Our trip to Scotland was fabulous. We experienced so many wonderful places,
people, music, culture, etc. Our country does not have a CLUE as to what
OLD is!! My son took about 3000 photos and is culling and organizing them
into a presentation for family and friends that is one hour or less (my
parameter). I can't wait to go back. Driving on the left was a bit of a
brain twister but a great will exercise. One of my favorite expereinces was
in England; BEING in a newly-formed crop circle. WOW! And the standing
stone circles, burial mounds, and other ancient sacred sites were wonderful.
The Edinburgh festival and Fringe Festival were wonderful, too. The
Military Tattoo was spectacular- so moving.

Diane said she received your ANAWME dues and several others - our list is
growing. I am very happy about the website and it seems to be generating
interest. Now, of course, we just need more content as you well know. How
is is going so far this year? Have you been able to sell any of your
C-flutes? Good luck with that.

Hope you are well and at peace, Andrea

Hello, everyone!

A friend of mine who owns "A Child's Dream Come True" catalog received some
copies of Elisabeth Lebret's "Shepherd's Scongbook" and they were a little
scuffed up (hardly even noticeable!) and so she cannot sell them through her
catalog. She was told to just give them to others for free. She gave them
to me and I would like to give them to you, if you would like one. It is a
classic song book for early grades in the Waldorf schools. I have used my
old one very much and not only was it falling apart, it was in a hand
written script and a little difficult to read. This new printing is easy to
read and quite lovely. I highly recommend it if you do not have one. It
usually sells for about $15 but I will send it to you for free - just let me
know if you want one. I have about 8 or 9. So first come, first serve.

I hope all is going well with everyone and that your school year has started
off smoothly.
I look forward to hearing from you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Andrea,
I'd love to have a copy of her song book. She just passed away- - the ending of
an era- - have been thinking of her- - she was an inspiration to me in Toronto
when I first started teaching. My copy is also the old one and is falling
apart. Using a newer one would indeed be a celebration of her work. If there are
any left please send one. Thanks!
I trust you received a copy of my attempts at notes of our final meeting.
How was your trip?
Hope all is well!
Love,
Eleanor

We have 11 unused c flutes for sale - our program has discontinued use
of these instruments and I am seeking a school that may be interested
in purchasing them. I believe that the instrument retails for $60; we
are asking $50 per instrument, which totals a savings of $110 if a
school purchases all of them. Please let me know if you are
interested ASAP.

Bianca! Thanks for your inspiration and action! I have some songs to
prepare (as promised!) but haven't completed them yet. However, I am
attaching a Finale score I made of the Sinfonia: Pallade e Marte by Maria
Margherita Grimani. My understanding is that people who do not own Finale
can download a version which will allow them to view and print this. I
would like to also add these comments:
Sinfonia: Pallade e Marte by Maria Margherita Grimani is arranged to meet
the mixed levels of 7/8 Orchestra. I print the parts so that Violin I -1
and Violin I - 2 are lined up like a duet (and similarly for all other
parts, contact me for info on how to make parts this way) allowing me to
have everyone play the easier 2 parts to learn the structure of the piece
and work on many important musical elements. Then, the students who are
ready move up to the 1 parts while others remain on the 2's longer (or even
through the performance) yet are aware of the more difficult part and how it
fits with 2. You will find many ways to use this format that will be
useful. Some suggestions: Have only one on a part play the 1 parts and one
on a part play the 2 parts. Have students notice the parallels, balance,
etc. Then add others to each group creating different listening and balance
situations. Let me know what you do! It is also useful to print the violin
I parts on the front and the
violin II on the back so that the violins are all learning both parts
(during rehearsal, at least!)
Our 7/8 orchestra performed this piece for our final concert (having worked
on it for most of the semester.) We had a very strong bass section so I
gave them the more difficult scales which would usually only be played by
the cello section. For most orchestras the bottom bass part will be most
appropriate and is easier to balance.
This score was arranged from the Historical Anthology of Music by Women
Composers, edited by James Briscoe, Indiana University Press. This volume
has short biographies and samples of music by women composers from 810A.D.
to present day composers. We know little of Grimani's life except that this
piece was performed in Vienna in 1713 as part of a larger oratorio. She has
the same name as an important family of Venetian aristocrats so may have had
a court connection this way. Having performed and recorded with the Women's
Philharmonic (in San Francisco) for 20 years, I feel playing the works of
women composers contributes musically and culturally to both players and
listeners. I intend to arrange more works of historical women composers for
student orchestras. The 1 parts are unchanged from the original score.

Greetings!

I know that each of you is gearing up for the upcoming school year
but before it begins, I'm hoping that you will take a moment to
submit some materials to be posted on our web ring.

I'm looking for lesson plans (all grades), singing games, songs,
activities, sheet music (without copyright as per the request of one
of our members), original compositions, etc. I'd also love an e-
copy of Steiners book on music so that I may post a section monthly
for discussion.

Please feel free to forward materials by either snail mail (US post)
or email. You can easily upload yourself through the ANAWME yahoo
groups web ring or send to me.

Thanks! My best to each of you for the upcoming school year.

I have uploaded a small score version of this piece to the Sheet Music
file. It is in Finale 2005a; if you are interested in using this
please contact me directly by email so I can set you up with parts.
Our 5/6 Orchestra played this last year; it was the first piece they
learned as a full orchestra combining winds and strings. Alleluia for
All Things is our school song. Best of luck with your school year!
We start Wednesday.

Dear all,

It was wonderful to spend last week with you! I feel inspired and
eager to start the school year. I think this group will be a
wonderful place to share resources and will also offer the
opportunity to continue some of the wonderful discussions we started
this week.

On that note, I've found that the Rudolf Steiner archive does indeed
have the Inner Nature of Music lectures, which is new since I was
trying to find them last spring. Here's the link:

http://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA/index.php?ga=GA0283

By the way, the RSArchive is offering text ad banners at a rate of
$15.00 for 3000 viewings- it might be another way to get the word
about ANAWME out to anthroposophists...?

Have a pleasant rest of summer!

Thank you, Bianca for getting the website going. It's so exciting to
know it's here and I want to get in the habit of checking it often.

My thanks to Eleanor, Andrea, and Richard for pulling the extra
conference pieces together on short notice. Also to everyone for the
warm welcome and all the rich, interesting discussions - new music and
teaching ideas and WONDERFUL music-making together. I am so delighted
to have met each of you and feel much less "alone" in my work knowing
I can meet you online and on phone throughout the year.

I wish you all the best as you hopefully get rest and recouperation
this summer and plan for another year of our wonderful work of teaching.

Kate
