i sent this out to the melissa ferrick list i'm on, cause someone mentioned
ani's cd. here's what i think:
i ran out to an indie music store in my town, right down the block from my
school yesterday, regretting the amount of money i had to pay for the new ani
cd. i had a feeling i'd like reckoning more than revelling but i put
revelling on first. i sat listening to it in a room with 5 other ani fans
and we quickly lost interest. the cd became more of "background music" and
nosies...people drifted in and out saying "this is the new ani?" "i have 10
of her cds, i dont need any more" and "i don't think i like this sound too
much." i keep buying her cds, and keep feeling dissapointed while others i
know just stop buying her music period. i read a review of r/r in the
current issue of spin, where they pointed out that ani lost 50% of her record
buying audience between the release of dilate and to the teeth. i think i'll
continue buying her cds until i die, but i won't be able to identify with her
music. i discovered melissa around the same time i was losing faith in ani
and i am really fortunate for that. i find more things i can relate to in
melissa's songs and feel her voice is much more powerful than ani's. is it
just me, or does ani not articulate her words like she used to?
now that i sound like i've totally ragged on ani (i still love her, just that
i love her for her music before LPC), i wanted to also say that i really like
the photography in the new cd and think the outdoor scenes are beautiful.
