This cabaret-style intimate concert is an opportunity for Astraea and her
supporters to publicly acknowledge the incredible and lasting accomplishments
of allies, community organizers and supporters. Rocker Ani Difranco, Womyn's
Music icon Holly Near and comedienne Margaret Cho will perform as part of an
evening that celebrates Astraea's 23rd anniversary. The evening's honorees
include actress Vanessa Redgrave (Astraea Ally Award), local organizer
Candice Boyce (Astraea OUTstandingLESBIAN Community Empowerment Award) and
long-time donor-activist Diane Sabin (Astraea OUTstandingLESBIAN
Philanthropic Activism Award). The Mistress of Ceremonies will be lesbian
writer Jewelle Gomez.
Astraea Lesbian Action Foundation is a public charity whose purpose is to
advance the economic, political, educational and cultural well-being of
lesbians, their families and allies working for social justice. Our mission
is enacted through a variety of programs including grantmaking, training and
technical assistance, philanthropic advocacy and education, and
fundraising.Gifts to Astraea support lesbian health projects, anti-violence
programs, youth community centers, advocacy, organizing, workplace issues,
elder lesbians, incarcerated lesbians, theater, film, video and
publications.This is a central event for Astraea, giving us the opportunity
to raise funds for our U.S. and International Grants, raise lesbian
visibility, and raise the roof for a night of top-rated entertainment and fun.
