ABBA The Movie 2 Disc review.   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #6251 of 6412 |
Being the ABBA fan that  I am I decided to do a short review of 'ABBA The Movie'  two disc set, although USA & Canada get the releases delayed or in this case they only have the one disc release without the extras.

ABBA The Movie (2 Disc Set)

ABBA The Movie 2 disc deluxe edition isn't exactly that superb. The actual "ABBA The Movie" on DVD is great especially the sound and it took me back to 1978 when I saw it at the cinema with my cousin. Shame my TV screen isn't cinema size! I can still remember the buzz, ABBA on stage singing, Ashley failing dismally in his quest until the very end to get his exclusuive with the band in a hotel lift. And then the mad dash to the radio station to get the ABBA special on air just as ABBA leave Australia. The concert footage alone is great, just a shame there wasn't more to offer concert wise. Its a film I will never tire of. Plus I never got to see ABBA in concert either.

But the additional disc is rather disappointing. Such a major missed opportunity. The interviews are conducted in Swedish - and this is for a worldwide release, no wonder reviews have been absent from the media for the delux edition - and so many questions remain unanswered such as where is the UK footage they filmed. They filmed at 4 Australian venues all the concerts, where is the additional footage now, why can't it be used? And so on. The memorabilia section, so much is missing from that. And the Tour Programme section, where is the Australian Tour Programme too? What about TV interviews they did on tour, news clips, all archive stuff that would have been a bonus. There is a plus point, the trailer for the film and the 2 LP adverts one for Australia & one for the UK, the latter that I vaguely remember all those years ago. 10/10 for The Movie. 2/10 for the bonus disc.

If you plan to buy "ABBA The Movie" then buy the single disc release you won't be disappointed.

  All the best
  Kathryn
