Re: [A Place for Cynthia Lennon] John's Half-Brothers!! Plus his half-sister Victoria

Hi there,

Sorry, about posting the other one before I'd finished typing this all up.  I
didn't even think I hit the send button.  Computers drive me crazy!

This is from 'The John Lennon Encyclopedia by Bill Harry.

David Henry Lennon

First son of Alfred (Freddie) Lennon & Pauline Lennon (nee Jones), born in
Brighton in February 1969.
Freddie Lennon lavashed love & attention on David, his second son -
taking advantage of this new chance at fatherhood & able to provide David with
the devotion that he'd never been able to give John.  Perhaps subconsciously
aware of this, John began to withdraw his attention.  Pauline mentioned that,
after David's birth, John stopped wiriting to them & he showed no interest at
all in his half-brother.
On Friday 19 October 1970, Fred & Pauline embarked on a two-hour drive
from Brighton to Tittenhurst Park with the eighteen-month-old David.  The
meeting was  a trouble-fraught one & John verbally attacked Freddie.  He &
Yoko had recently been undertaking primal therapy at Dr Arthur Janov's clinic, &
all his hostility for his parents was unleashed, which ruined the intention of
having John get to properly meet his half-brother for the first time.
When the People newspaper traced him in June 1997, he was still living in
Brighton, East Sussex, with his mother & brother Robin.  He was 28 years old &
worked as a computer programmer.  He commented, 'I used to get bothered by
people asking about John.  Now I just want to get on with my own life & be
known as myself.'

Robin Lennon  (I think his middle name is Francis)

The second son of Freddie and Pauline Lennon.
Robin was due to be born on 9 October 1973, John's birthday, but the
pregnancy was a long one and he was born on 22 October.
He never had any association with John & continued to live with his
mother in Brighton, following Freddie's death.
In June 1997 he was tracked down at this home in Brighton by a reporter
from teh People tabloid, who reported that the 23-year-old was unemployed.  A
neighbour reported: 'You won't see Robin out a lot.  He lived away for a while
but moved back in with his mother a few months ago.  He seems a nice lad but I
think he is quite shy'.

Pauline Jones (Lennon) (first paragraph only)

At the age of 18, Pauline Jones a student at Exeter University, took a holiday
job at the Toby Jug Hotel in Esher, where she met & fell in love with a man over
twice her age, Alfred 'Freddie' Lennon.  Despite an age gap of 35 years,
Pauline, who had recently lost her father, found Lennon an extraordinary man
with a wicked sense of humour. He asked if he could call her Polly after his
mother, becuase he said Puline reminded him of her.

John also had three half sisters, most people know about Julia Baird & Jacquie
Dykins, but not everyone knows about Victoria Elizabeth Lennon who was adopted
out and became Ingrid Pederson.

Victoria Elizabeth Lennon aka Ingrid Pederson.

John Lennon's half sister, whom he was never fated to know.
During the period that Freddie Lennon was a way from his wife Julia &
son John during his pursuit of a career at sea, he literallly deserted them both
& at one time wrote to Julia giving his blessing for her to date other men.
While working as  a waitress in a tearoom in Penny Lane she met a Welsh
artillery officer called Taffy Williams from Moreton, Wirral.  They had a
six-month affair & she became pregnant with his child.  The baby was born
Victoria Elizabeth Lennon on 19 June 1945 at Elmwood, a Salvation Army Hostel in
North Mossley Hill Road, Liverpool.
Williams offered to stay with Julia & bring up the child, but refused
to take on John as well.  He left her & his name was never entered on the
child's birth certificate.
Julia had to reveal her parlous state to her father George Stanley at
the end of 1944.  He was furious & insisted the baby be adopted.
Julia had aslo been working as  a cinema usherette & developed a
friendship with Margaret Mary Pederson, who had married a Norwegian sailor,
Peder Pederson, the previous year.
Margaret couldn't have children &, when they heard about the adoption,
they jumped at the chance & the Salvation Army arranged for the adoption through
their own agency.
They renamed the baby Lillian Ingrid Maria Pederson & for eleven years
they lived at 86 The Northern Road, Crosby, L25. John was unaware of the
existence of his half-sister until1964, when his Aunt Harriet told him about
her.  John's cousin Stanley Parkes commented, 'He did everything in his power
to find her.  He wanted to make her part of the family & look after her.'
The daughter was also unaware of the existence of her half-brother until
1966.  She never contracted him because she did not wish to upset her adoptive
mother.  She was to say that she was aware that John had tried to search for
her.
In August 1998 she finally revealed her secret, five weeks after the
death of her adoptive mother, saying 'I kept this secret for the sake of my
mum.  But now she's dead I want to find my real family.'
At the time Ingrid was 53 years old, working as a clerk in a maternity
hospital & living in Chandlers Ford, near Eastleigh.
When the story first appeared in the Sun in Britain on 15 August 1998,
she said, 'Now at last I can admit who I am - the little sis John loved but
could never find.  I kept all this secret for the sake of my mum.'

Here are some articles that came out at the time.  They all vary with facts
that sometime conflict, so it's had to know which version is completely accurate
if any are.

Long-lost Lennon located

There are also two other Lennon half-sisters

A 53-year old hospital worker has come forward claiming to be John Lennon's
long-lost half-sister.
Ingrid Pedersen says she was given up for adoption as a newborn by Julia Lennon,
the singer's mother, in Liverpool in 1945.
She told The Sun newspaper that although she had been aware of her true identity
when the Beatles were at their peak, she had never met her older half-brother.

"Now at last I can admit who I am - the little sis John loved but could never
find," she said.
Providing copies of her birth and adoption certificates which say she was born
Victoria Elizabeth Lennon, Ingrid Pedersen said she had kept her identity a
secret for the sake of her adoptive parents, Margaret and Peder Pedersen.
'Time was right'
But Mrs Pedersen died five weeks ago so she had decided the time was right to
speak out.
"I kept this secret for the sake of my mum. But now she's dead I want to find my
real family," she said.
She added that revealing her true identity would "take a huge weight" of her
shoulders.
John Lennon's father Alf walked out on his family three years after his son's
birth in 1940.

Ingrid Pedersen claims that his mother then had a brief affair with a Welsh
soldier called Taffy Williams, who was her real father.
The Beatle, who was shot dead in New York in 1980, also had two other
half-sisters, born after his mother met John Dykins.
Miss Pedersen says she wants to meet her half-sisters and John's two sons, Sean
and Julian.

This one below confuses me as it seems to say that she thinks her adoptive dad
who we think was called Peder Pederson, is really her biological dad & yet every
other source has said that his name was 'Taffy Williams'.  It also says that
she did not know that John was looking for her yet others say she did.

Lennon's half-sister speaks (9/1/00) In an interview with the Melbourne Sunday
Herald Sun, Ingrid Pederson, John's half-sister, discussed her famous relative.
"As soon as I became aware that John was my brother I started to collect every
cutting on him I could find and hid them in a drawer in my bedroom. I was
terrified in case my (adopted) parents found out. It would have been a betrayal
of them."
"I felt I couldn't contact John when my adoptive mother was still alive. I felt
an incredible loyalty to her because I believe she knew I was dad's real
daughter and she took me in as her own daughter with no obvious resentment about
his affair with Julia.''
"I knew Mum kept a tin box in her wardrobe that contained family papers. When no
one was around I opened it, trembling. I found a yellowing, dog-eared adoption
paper that had been issued by Liverpool County Court. Then I saw my full name:
Lillian Ingrid Maria Pederson, and my birth date. Above that were the three
words I had been looking for: Victoria Elizabeth Lennon - the name I was born
with. My real mother's name, Julia Lennon, was also there. I burst into tears."
She said she never knew John had been looking for her.
After her mother died and her story came out, she received a call from Yoko Ono,
who brought her to New York and gave her a tour of the Dakota and Strawberry
Fields.
"For me, the biggest part has been put to rest - and that is getting as close to
John as I possibly can in the circumstances - and for this I have Yoko to thank.
I have also visited my real mother' s grave in Liverpool. It was emotional, but
I managed to make peace with her.
"As for John, there's not a day in my life which goes by without me thinking
about him.'' (Thanks to Wendy Starr.)

Victoria Elizabeth Stanley
June 15, 1945 Liverpool, England
Julia gave her up for adoption under her father's orders as she was not
financial stable and caring for her son, John as well as being technically
married as Victoria was a result from another relationship. Victoria was adopted
by Peder and Margaret Pedersen and was renamed Ingrid Marie. In the 1960s, John
was told by his Aunts that he had another sister and tried to look for her
unsuccessfully; in 1966 Ingrid discovered that she was John's sister but kept
quiet under her adoptive mother's request until her death in 1998. Ingrid was
then living in England as a nurse and announced her identity. Ingrid has met
Yoko Ono and only met her biological family of the Stanleys in 2005 although
they had mentioned that she was welcome into the fold.

During 1942-1943, Julia lived with Lennon at The Dairy Cottage; 120a Allerton
Road, Woolton. The cottage was owned by Mimi's husband, George Smith, and Mimi
wanted Julia to live there so they would be closer to her house, and would also
be out of the Stanley's house. As Alf was often away at sea, Julia started going
out to dance halls. In 1942, she met a Welsh soldier named Williams who was
stationed in the barracks at Mossley Hill. Alf blamed himself for this, as he
had written letters telling Julia that because there was a war on, she should go
out and enjoy herself. After an evening out, Julia would often give the young
Lennon a piece of chocolate or shortcrust pastry the next morning for breakfast.
She became pregnant by Williams in late 1944, though first claiming that she had
been raped by an unknown soldier. Williams refused to live with Julia—who was
still married to Alf—until she gave up Lennon, which Julia refused to do. When
Alf eventually
came home in 1944 he offered to look after Julia, Lennon, and the expected
baby, but Julia rejected the idea.

Alf took Lennon to his brother Sydney's house, in the Liverpool suburb of
Maghull, a few months before Julia came to term. Julia gave birth to a daughter,
Victoria Elizabeth, in the Elmswood Nursing Home on 19 June 1945 Victoria was
subsequently given up for adoption to a Norwegian Salvation Army Captain (Peder
and Margaret Pedersen) after intense pressure from Julia's family. Lennon was
not told about Victoria—who was later re-named Ingrid Marie—and supposedly
never knew of her existence. When Victoria/Ingrid was 53-years-old, she was
interviewed by a British tabloid newspaper and revealed that she found out that
she was related to Lennon in 1966 (when she was a nurse) as she wanted to get
married and had to produce her birth certificate.

I hope you and others found this interesting.  I had fun recapping the
details.  A good book to read if you want to know more about Freddie & his
other two sons is 'Daddy Come Home' by Pauline Lennon.

I'm pretty sure I read one time that when Freddy Lennon remarried he had two
other sons. Does anyone know where they are now and if they've met Julian?
