Bring whatever you want I do suggest long cords and a small mixing
board if you have one also Power strips.

At the Cone Gallery 1324 Grand Ave Phoenix az 85007

Il start around 8 whoever else wants to play Il keep the doors open
till 12:00 then Im going to the Bikini and have a few or more.

Guests that dont play are asked to donate $3
(beer money for the rest of us)

If anyone has a mini cd recorder or anything to record with that would
be great. We have a great blacklight art show up right now so the
place looks great.

and for you folks who dont know - the worlds
#1 best placec to buy tube related equipment
(not finished radios) is IN PHOENIX -- i just built
the Moonlight 1W Amp from parts they got

lots of books if you folks are intrested in tubes

another thing - there are TONS of cheap lil ALL TUBE
radios out there! people collect them! but not really
for much money. quite often you can modiffy these.
generally they only pick up the AM spectrum,  but
since its tube it generally sounds better than your
digital FM. the problem is alot of the Antique cheaper small
radios used MAINS POWER - so youd need to buy
an ISOLATION TRANSFORMER (i.e. from antique elec supply,
the hammond transformers are great) so as to not
be mains power anymore and to allow you to experiment.
i.e. DEATH BY HIGH VOLTAGE IS NOT A GOOD WAY TO GO

i just turned a westing house "All American Five" into a
two pentode mixerinput preamp. three of the tubes in it were
power amps, and two radio. i took the radio out and added
pentode preamps for audio input.

its all out there for the taking and making

i can even get some information for you. there is an az ham yahoo group

if some old timer thinks your going to use a ham radio and that you have
a small intrest in ham hes really going to help you out. at least ive had
that luck over the years. old timers are very impressed when younger
people showi ntrest in thechnology that is outdated 40 years ago.

with the tube radios your not only getting KILLER PREAMPS alot of the
time, your getting BFO/VFA (oscilators),  filters, XTAL and antennae
receiving, strange chanels youd neverh ear, the chance to spray
keyboard cleaner on it and change the channel, etc... your choice of
putting an antennae up on your roof toscare the neighbnors and listen
to IRAN - or the choce to just listen to your refridgerator's frequencies
picke dup on lower channels.

YEAH your gona end up spending 200-500$ for a REAL NICE radio
I agree it's COOL TO BE POOR but - not with radio reception! :)

if someone said - dave - you need to get a new radio, your halicrafter

definetly get a COLLINS - one of the more fully stocked tube ones

I'd hate to sound like an ass for suggesting this, but maybe you can find something on ebay, even though the chances are that they might not work at all. As for finding one, try looking at a place that repairs things like electronics, tv's, stereos, and the like. That's where my friend found himself a tr 606.

So, the tube ones are really better than the 70s Zenith solid state
ones?  I have only used the solid state ones, and they are hard to
get all messy in between stations.  I would imagine that is where
the old tube shortwave radios are better.  No signal locking
circuitry, so you can get the sideband distortion that sounds so
neato.  Where would one find out about these ham radio swap meets?

I wouldn't think that makes you sound like an ass. I think Dan's
hoping to go someplace and "score" a shortwave radio. That's always
hard to predict. I'm positive one could be acquired on Ebay, but
finding one at an old fart's rummage sale for 25¢ would be so much
cooler. Especially if it was an old tube boat anchor. My shortwave,
in case anyone cares was from Radio Shack. It's little and solid
state. It works pretty well, but like most shortwaves, the reception
is almost totally wiped out during daylight hours....

Thanks for the Info Il look in to some of the ham meets sounds like
fun. I had an old 70's portable but it broke on me and I cant decide

Dan, check the thrift stores.  I have actually never seen a shortwave
here at a thrift store, but every other town I've lived in has them.
You could also look at that big antique mall off of cactus and I-17.
The last time I was there they had a couple of big old Hallicrafters,
and something else.  They'll be a lot more expensive though.

So, is the third friday happenning tomorrow night?  I'm bringing a
friend if it is going to happen.

I need an old shortwave the type with a dial and a metal antenna not
digital. Mine broke.
Any one know where I might find one.? I like to use it as a noise
generator and run it through our old synths filters. Makes great
ambient sounds especially when you touch the antenna.

Hook Prosthesis (TX), As All Die (AZ), Goat (TX) Clew of Theseus (AZ),
Pedestrian Deposit (CA), Nyarlathotep (AZ), Manmilk (FL)

Event Master of Ceremonies:

The Cut Throat Freak Show

About the Performers:

Bastard Noise, born out of the ashes of West-Coast Power Violence pioneers
Man Is The Bastard, have been performing their own blend of American harsh
noise with tortured vocals for well over a decade and around 50 releases on
labels like Relapse, Vermiform, Groundfault, and more. Traveling from Los
Angeles for their first performance under this moniker in Phoenix, Bastard
Noise is sure to attract much attention.

SICKNESS is the best example of the new American extreme cut-up noise sound.
With releases on RRR, Groundfault and his own Ninth Circle Music, Chris
Goudreau has evolved over many years, mastering his own craft and patenting
his own style of harsh noise. SICKNESS has made many appearances at some of
the biggest festivals around the world in the past three years. First Phx
appearance.

Emil Beaulieau, the Greatest American Noise Artist, owner and founder of
RRRecords in Massachusetts, has been the single-greatest influence on the
American noise scene over the past twenty years. He is often credited as
bringing Japanese noise to America, but he also shaped a unique scene on
these shores. So many dozens of releases under his belt, he stopped
counting years ago, he is best known for his engaging live performances,
rife with energy and humor.

Tim Oliviera, San Francisco's Harsh Noise label co-owner, has been churning
out psychedelic harsh noise under his Stimbox moniker for over ten years.
Dozens of releases have shown that Stimbox is consistent with his
trademark blend of grating harsh and synthesized textures. He has performed
in many Bay Area festivals and on stages across the country and the globe.
First Phoenix appearance.

Goat is traveling from Texas to bring his renowned insane live act to
Phoenix. Philosophy Shop owner Andy O'Sullivan's evil harsh noise has
punished scores of releases, but his trademark live performances that attack
the audience and end in obliteration within minutes have been the legend of
Goat.

Steel Hook Prosthesis, also from Texas, will take the Phoenix Noise Fest
into the depths of dark, cold power electronics. His releases on L. White
Records, Pain Compliance, Beauty & Pain, Slaughter Productions and more have
shown that SHP is a diverse artist that blends power electronics and noise
with excellent results.

Pedestrian Deposit,The twisted, harsh brainchild of John Borges, will mark
the audience of Phoenix, by way of NorCal. His harsh noise has shown
consistent progression on releases from Truculent Recordings, Hospital
Productions and others.

Manmilk, based in Tampa, is a one man assault of odd samples and hard
noise.
His live set is something to witness, as he actually destroys the tool he
uses when he performs. Releases on RPM Recordings, Beauty & Pain Recordings.

As All Die, based in Phoenix by way of Providence, RI, performs martial
industrial mixed with neofolk and harsh noise. This Duo has releases on
Crowd Control Activities, Somnambulant, RRRecords, Foreshadow Blade Records
and more.

Clew of Theseus has been performing dark electronic destruction since 1996.
In the past few years, he has performed at the Oakland Noise Fest, Norcal
Noise Fest and the San Francisco Noise Fest. Recent releases are on
Chondritic Sound, Solipsism, Harsh Noise and his own Cathartic Process
label. Ben Brucato rarely performs locally, aside from performing audio
destruction alongside the Cut Throat Freak Show at recent events, including
the Taste The Chaos Tour, this performance will be his first in Phoenix in
nearly two years.

Nyarlathotep, of Phoenix, has been producing a distorted amalgam of analog
and ritualistic power electronic for a decade. Founding member, John Luna,
has collaborated with Bastard Noise, and the project has released two full
lengths filled with deep dark harsh textures. Live group is a wall of noise
and a wave of destruction.

The masters of ceremonies for the festival will be the Cut Throat Freak
Show. This extreme side show act will entertain and dement the guests of
the Perihelion gallery between performances.

PERIHELION IS LOCATED NEXT DOOR TO THE BIKINI LOUNGE, PHOENIX'S OLDEST TIKI
BAR--21 & OVER ONLY

AND 2 DOORS DOWN FROM THE TRUNK SPACE MULTI-ARTS VENUE WITH FULL
