Thanks Judy,
My teacher is Matt Evans. He has a couple other students in the Plum Nelly area
of Lookout Mountain, where I live, so he drives down from Chattanooga twice a
month and gives lessons to us all.
During the summer months he plays at the BBQ tent at Rock City, but the rest of the
year he is a prof at Univ. Tennessee Chattanooga. He is a very good teacher.
Why did I post this question on this list? Because I know a few folks here, from when I lived in the big city. I work in Atlanta and stay in town during the week, so I still have a connection here. If you hear some odd noises coming from a condo on Cheshire Bridge (odder than usual), that would be me, early on the learning curve.
Thanks for the pointer!

Mo - The K. Holtz Fiberglass bow is around $50 on line and has received good reviews on fiddlehangout. com. I bought one as my back-up bow. I still prefer my ~$300 Glasser carbon fiber bow that I bought at Atlanta Street Violins, but the K Holtz is definitely playable.
Who's your teacher?

My first fiddle lesson was last Saturday. Seems I need a bow, as the one I have was declared "virtually unplayable".
My instructor recommended that I spend no more than $50 until I get a feel for what I want, which might take a year or more.
I quick browse of the internet vendors yields names like Glasser, Kun, Scott Cao, LaSalle, Siegler, and Geipel.
Any suggestions / advice?
Thanks,
