I have a new group of paintings in from folk artist Tory Casey. Tory
and Joe Thrift live in Surrey County, NC and her art reflects the
old-time music of the area. Quite a few depict the stories of an old
time tune. Her web site is www.torycasey.com
The paintings I have locally are in my booth at Kudzu Antiques, just
east of Decatur on Ponce de Leon. Look for booth A-40.
The new paintings are "House of the Rising Sun", "Reuben's
Train", "Let's Have A Tune", and "WPAQ Studio B". I like them all,
but one is really exceptional and may come home to live with me. I
won't say which one, though, as your opinion might be different.
"House of the Rising Sun" and "Reuben's Train" are about
the songs of the same name. "Let's Have A Tune" is a scene of the
music/dance session. "WPAQ Studio B" is a view of the Mt. Airy radio
station that plays a lot of local live music. She said that there
never was a Studio A.
BTW, Joe was a guest on the PBS Woodwright Shop show. He is an
exceptional fiddle maker and specializes in 5-string fiddles. There
are archived editions of the PBS show and Joe's show is listed
there. It is really neat the way he carves peghead scrolls. Makes it
look easy!
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Tory did the CD cover art for some
of the Donna The Buffalo CDs, JimmyJohnnyJoe, and perhaps some
others that I can't remember.
All the Best,
