I'm the euphonium/tuba professor at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire
(and have been for 27 years). I was speaking with my long-time friend and
mentor, Harvey Phillips a couple of weeks ago relative to a recital project, and
he suggested that folks involved with "Friends of Alec Wilder" might want to
know about it. My wife (collaborative pianist, Barbara Young) and I will be
presenting a program called: "Remembering Alec Wilder: The Numbered Suites for
Tuba and Piano." The recital will be presented twice, first here at the
University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire on October 4, 2010 and again at the
University of North Dakota (Grand Forks) on October 23 or 24. Of course,
these are the suites dedicated to Harvey and his family. The program will also
include Mr. Wilder's "Song for Carol," and may include a piano solo from his
catalogue, as well. Certainly anyone in the Upper Midwest who might have
interest in hearing these works is welcome at either performance. The
performance here in Eau Claire is free and open to all comers. I'm not yet
aware of the parameters in Grand Forks, but interested parties could contact the
low brass professor there, Dr. Joel Pugh, for details. I have submitted a
proposal to present this recital at the International Tuba/Euphonium Association
Conference in Tucson, Arizona next spring, however the decision process
regarding that venue is still in process.
Thanks for passing this information along to any interested parties.
