The Chamber Music 2010 giant membership directory is out and includes articles,
reviews, etc. The big feature this year is a section called "The Great
Tradition, American Masterpieces: Chamber Music". The beginning of the article
states, "Which American ensemble compositions are most beloved, most beautiful,
most influential, most underappreciated, most marvelous to perform or hear? We
explored the issue by asking musicians, composers and writers to name some
favorite single works and tell us why they like them."
Steven Ovitsky, executive director of the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, wrote
a wonderful and moving tribute to Wilder's Octets and why he has enjoyed them
for the last 40+ years. Also, on the cover of the Directory are photos of
Wilder and other composers, each superimposed on a star.
It is nice to have such a tribute to one of our favorite composers!
