2006 Mesa Slam Points Update

If you are interested in trying out to make the 2006 Mesa National
Slam Team and attend the 2006 National Poetry Slam in Austin, TX this
coming August, Essenzaslam is the only venue in Phoenix that is a PSI
qualified venue to send a team to this event. If you'd like to learn

Phoenix Library "Coffeehouses"

Local poets are partnering with The Phoenix Library and Anthology in
presenting performance poetry at a series of in-library "Coffeehouse"
events in March and April. These poets will be performing and hosting
an open mic during these shows for teens:

Friday, April 21st, Saguaro: 48th Street and Thomas- Brent Hefron

Glendale Library to Pack Poetry Punch in April

With April being national Poetry Month and all, it only serves the
community right to be able to pack as much poetry as possible into
it! And it just keeps on coming! Join us April 4th for the Anthology
VOY Slam, featuring students from across the valley showcasing their
talents for the Glendale's Main Library Auditorium.

Then, Join Anthology again on April 19th for the Biggest Poetry Slam
Glendale has ever seen, again at the Main Library's Auditorium.

Anthology Board Member to Feature in April
---------------------------------------------------------------
This last week saw the announcement that Anthology Board Member The
Klute would be the featured participant at the 7th Annual Poetry
Central Event. 2006 marks his 3rd year of affiliation with the
program, reaching out to teens and encouraging them to participate in
performance poetry. Klute also recently appeared at The Bowery Poetry
Club in New York and will also be featuring at the Dayton, Ohio Grand
Slam in April.

As one of the oldest running slams in the country, Essenzaslam
continue to make performance poetry history. Seventeen slammers hit
the mic last week, with big crowds. Join us each Thursday as we

Aaron Johnson, of Flagstaff, AZ
His Bio:
Aaron Johnson was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ.
As a young teen, he worked at Arby's. It was here that he saw a
lefthander chop off his thumb in a roast beef slicer. Being a lefty
too, Aaron was permanently scarred for life and began writing and
performing poetry.
In 2001, he ventured to Rome, Italy to perform poetry, and was
crowned International Poetry Interpretation Champion. He was then
recruited on to Northern Arizona University on a speech and debate
scholarship.
Aaron “Lefty” Johnson has been to two NORAZ Grand Slams, a member of
the 2005 NORAZ Slam team, and ranked #1 for the 2005 slam season.
Adam Rubinstein of Albuquerque said good things about Aaron that the
newsletter writer had to leave off, but if you want to know what Adam
said about Aaron- be at the slam and ask him (Aaron that is).
