Hi all,
Memorial Day weekend, Arcosanti is hosting the 2006 AZ State
Poetry Slam Championship. It is a three day festival of music, art
and, yes, poetry. I have just received some information on some of
the opportunities to perform over the coarse of the weekend.
Below is a list of the types of performers that this year's
organizers are looking for- musicians, artists and of coarse poets.
If you are interested in performing, please send an email to one of
the organizers:
Jewel Blackfeather <astreetfaery@...> or Dan Seaman
<papa_cman@...> or Ira Murfin <whatisart@...>.
Once they have a list of interested parties, they will contact you
about booking, most likely the first week of April. Please include a
Myspace or any other link that they may review your work.
FRIDAY
- A Musical Act to perform a 1 hr set on Friday Evening (about 9p.m.).
- ANYthing really daring, avant garde, limit pushing, experimental,
and legal (20 mins max, longer if VERY intriguing).
-ANTthing else that you can think of... basically, no limitations
here for Friday.
SATURDAY
- Musicians to perform a 30 min set on Saturday, during Lunch &
Dinner Breaks (aft & eve).
SUNDAY
- Performance Dance Troupe (Interpretive/Modern/Improv) to perform a
Duration/Extended Piece on Sunday over a 3 hr period (1 hr pre-noon,
2 hrs after lunch).
- Poetry Group Pieces for Sunday Showcase, up to 10 mins length
(depending on how many groups want to perform, will determine if
there is a second round for the Showcase. Approx, sometime around Lunch)
- A "special" kind of musical act for Sunday, extended. Suggested:
String Quartet, Pianist, Flute & Drum, Acoustic/Classical Guitar,
LIVE eletronica/techno, etc.
- "Paint" artist to work on LARGE scale.
- Anything else that might work... YOU be creative and suggest.
We are hoping on Sunday to create an atmosphere/environment through
and with the performers/performances that is both an active
interpretation of the immediate environs of Arcosanti, as well as a
stimulation of exchage. These performers/performances will be
creating this environment through their visual and aural arts
interpretations that will at once inspire thought among the audience
(s), as well as contribute to the exchange of these thoughts between
the audience members.
Of some tangible and experiential reference to explain this would be:
watching a fire's flame and embers; to a unset/sunrise/moonset; to
daydreaming about a cloud formation; to listening to the ocean or a
stream.
Thanks!
