GABRIELA GARCIA MEDINA
Gabriela Garcia Medina is an international spoken word artist and award
winning poet. She has performed at Colleges, Festivals, and Conferences all
over the world. From the World Social Forum, Brazil (2004) to Havana Jazz
Plaza (2001), her poetry has taken her to places such as South Africa, Cuba,
Brazil, Switzerland and all over the United States. Her book "Ink-Scribing
Oshun" has been touring Nationally since November 2006. Also in the works is
her next book "In the Wake of Oya" due in Spring 07.
AND, as a special guest (visiting from out of town)...
Hal Sirowitz is the author of six books of poetry, although probably best
known for the volumes Mother Said (Crown), My Therapist Said (Crown), &
Father Said (Crown). He has had work in numerous anothologies and
periodicals, such as Aloud: Voices from the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe (Henry
Holt), Verses That Hurt (St. Martin's Press), Chelsea and Hanging Loose.
He's a 1994 recipient of an NEA Fellowship in Poetry, & reads regularly in
New York, as well as internationally. He has performed on MTv, at
Lalapalooza, & can be heard on several recordings, including the United
States of Poetry CD and VHS, recorded live and issued in 1995. He is
currently the best selling translated poet in Norway, where his work has
also inspired a much loved animated series.
The slam will be two rounds to accomidate.
