Hey you guys and gals-
Help out Internet Radio- below is a message from Mary McCann, some know
her as ¡°The Bone Mamma¡± on radio here in PHX for many years, but a lot of us
know her as the founder of poetry slam in the valley. She, and a lot of
other Internet Radio stations and providers, really need our help,
especially here in AZ. I listen to a lot of Internet Radio and I¡¯ve called
twice already.
Here¡¯s a message from her below. Seriously, take 5 minutes and make the
call tomorrow, it helps Mary, as well as places like Live 365.com,
radioio.com, atlantic sound factory and others. Mary is a wonderful and
talented DJ, and it would only be right to give something back to her.
I also went to my favorite provider (Atlantic Sound Factory) and gave
them some cash- not a lot, but I wanted them to know I was out there, that I
appreciated their work, and that the fight was worth it.
http://www.savenetradio.org is the web site. Check it out.
It¡¯s not about Free, it¡¯s about Fair.
Thanks,
Bob Nelson

Subject: Help Mary keep her gig, easy how to guide,
and save Internet radio at the same time. What a great double bonus!
Please pass this along to anyone who cares about music.
This is an easy how to guide for making that fateful call:
March 2 the copyright panel set rates Internet radio must pay 2006-10. My
company and similar size operations will go from paying 11% of our revenue
to 294% of our revenue. We are already upside down unless HR 2060 passes.
The first payment is due July 17 so immediate attention is desperately
needed!
This is a death match for this beautiful medium. This is about
accessibility to the net and audiences for artists. This is about my
accessibility to rice and beans and I ask you to make a phone call. It
really makes a difference! We have 51 sponsors today! There were 7 10 days
ago before we went to D.C. One rep from AZ is on board, that¡¯s all, a
handful from CA including Marin Co. and a good early showing from Il. The
bill is bipartisan and started by a guy in WA, Rep. Jay Inslee. Here¡¯s
where you can look to see who¡¯s on board.

Call your Representative's office in D.C [or your local office for your
rep]. Ask to speak to the staffer who handles copyright or Internet issues.
[Enter your zip code at http://www.congress.org <http://www.congress.org>
and they¡¯ll give you your reps name and numbers.] They are used to people
who don't call in for a living and they're very easy to speak with. We have
word that certain senators with ties to big record labels are blocking the
IP of our coalition site, http://www.savenetradio.org
<http://www.savenetradio.org> , so e-mail¡¯s not a good option.
Here are some script ideas from savenetradio.org. Mix it up but the main
thing is to ask for co-sponsorship. You really will be saving Internet
radio and my job in this baby industry I¡¯m helping to form.
1) I am a constituent and I¡¯m calling to ask Congressman/woman ________
to save Internet radio by co-sponsoring H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio
Equality Act.
2) The Copyright Royalty Board¡¯s decision to increase royalty rates for
webcasters is going to turn off my Internet radio and I do NOT want that to
happen. Please tell Congressman/woman ¡©¡©¡©________ to co-sponsor H.R. 2060,
the Internet Radio Equality Act.
3) I believe that artists should be fairly compensated for the music
they make, but putting my webcasters out of business will only hurt artists
more. They depend on Internet radio to get their music out to fans and
build new audiences. When the webcasters go off the air, so do artists.
Please co-sponsor H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.
4) Internet radio is one of the only bright spots for independent music
and diversity. We NEED Internet radio. Don¡¯t turn it off. Co-sponsor H.R.
2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.
5) (If you are an artist) Internet radio enables artists like me to
reach fans throughout the country and the world and enjoy exposure and
airplay that we may otherwise have not received. I'm asking you to
co-sponsor H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.
Or my least favorite 6) My friend Mary McCann will be out of a job and
can't turn me on to fabulous artists any more and I mean and where else can
a person with the handle of The Bone Mama get a job? Geisha?
One of the artists who lobbied with us on the hill, SONiA, had her manager
run numbers for promoting her next tour. Without the support of Internet
radio those costs go up 600%.
Broadcast radio does not even pay this copyright fee, they are exempt, and
satellite radio¡¯s rate has been locked at 7.5% of their revenue for the same
period. We aren¡¯t asking for radio¡¯s rate but parity with satellite radio
thusly the name the Internet Radio Equality Act.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Best,
M
