The Richter Scales are kicking this show up a notch, which, since we're
logarithmic, means we're giving you ten times the value of a typical show.
We're getting all dressed up to bring you selections from the Great
American Songbook, plus original songs by music director Brian Rosen,
refreshments by Ernest and Julio Gallo, and hair by Vidal Sassoon.

Come join us for an elegant evening of a cappella - or, as they say in
Germany, Akapelegantischabend.

Free admission.

Support a local composer! Come to one of the Bay Choral Guild Concerts this
weekend!

The Bay Area is home to many highly regarded modern composers and BCG is
fortunate to have one of them, Sanford Dole, as our Artistic Director and
Conductor. We're singing, "The Fabric of Peace", is Sanford's latest
composition, a cantata for chorus and four-hand piano - an amazing piece of
music! It's incredibly dramatic, very visual and the harmonies are wonderful!

We're also performing "Liebeslieder Waltzes" by Johannes Brahms. IIf you know
them, you know how wonderful they are, both to sing and to listen to! If you
don't, come an enjoy this lovely choral valentine!

Sanford will give a lecture on the program 30 minutes before each concert.
Please join us for this glorious celebration of the joy of making music!

RAISE YOUR VOICE!
In July 2009, sixty-four men and women gathered for a day in San Rafael,
California to learn African American history through the oral tradition of story
and song. This disparate group of all ages, and ethnicities unanimously asked,
"Can we do it again next year?" Due to Dr. Ysaye Barnwell's extensive
performance and teaching schedule, it seemed unlikely. However, we are delighted
to report that she is coming back to be with us again for a day that is
guaranteed to be fun, informative, and inspiring.

Sound, meditation, and music have long been used to reduce stress, ease anxiety,
improve concentration, manage pain, enhance positive emotions and restore one's
sense of well-being. Communal singing is a proven route to creating group
cohesion and feelings of connection and has a definite positive neurobiological
impact.

In addition, creative processes, such as storytelling and singing contribute to
spiritual evolution, group bonding, personal development, and individual healing
within a group setting.

Masterfully led by Dr. Ysaye M. Barnwell, singers and non-singers alike will
share the common experience of learning in the oral tradition and singing
rhythms, chants, traditional songs from Africa and the Diaspora, and a variety
of songs from African American culture, including field hollers, spirituals,
gospels, ring shouts, and songs of the Civil Rights movement.

African American history is a vital part of the history of our nation, though it
is often over-looked or greatly minimized in history books and courses. This is
a rare opportunity to learn more about our mutual history as Americans!

The

Renaissance drinking song L'homme Arme' (The Armed Man) has served
as the basis for more masses than any other tune in history. San
Francisco
Renaissance Voices (Todd Jolly, Music Director with Katherine McKee,
Assistant Music Director) presents this concert featuring both of
Josquin's versions: his extraordinary Missa L'homme arme' sexti toni and
his most
famous version, Missa L'homme arme' super voces musicales, a technical
tour-de-force, containing numerous mensuration canons and contrapuntal
display in which the L'homme arme' tune is repeated for each movement
on a consecutive step of the scale.

San Francisco Renaissance Voices
are Artists-in-Residence with Seventh Avenue Performances (San
Francisco) and made their debut in 2004 with a sold-out performance of
Victoria's Requiem.  We have consistently earned praise for our "gossamer sound
... a sound something akin
to spiritual levitation" as well as recognition for our
imaginative programming and lauded as "a standout within the crowded
field of Bay Area early music ensembles" by San Francisco Classical Voice (July
2009).  We are dedicated to performing and exploring the a cappella choral music
of the
Renaissance particularly lesser-known and rarely-performed works, as
well as exploring music from
this period outside of the traditional European canon and have been
featured by such publications as The
Los Angeles Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, Newsday, USA Today
and the national magazine Early Music
America, among others.  Most recently, the group was selected as "Best
Classical Music" for 2010 by SFWeekly.  Learn more about us at:

you don't know nuthin'. There's a massive tradition of a
cappellapolyphonous music across Western culture, and the SFRV is the
only show in
town that brings you the good stuff. Flemish composer Josquin des Prez
(1450-1521), Spanish composer Tomás Luis de Victoria (1548-1611), English
music master Thomas Tallis (of whom William Byrd wrote in 1585, "Tallis is
dead, and Music dies") - for centuries, names like these were synonymous
with great music. The SFRV performs these classics from the golden age of
European polyphony the way they were meant to be heard: large ensemble
voices lifting the soul for sacred moments. Living history doesn't get any
better."

The Armed Man in Berkeley - June 9 - 8:00 pm

performing swing, be-bop, latin, and funk this could be the new project you’re
looking for! We are looking for someone with extensive experience performing
complex charts, one voice to a part. If you enjoy the challenge of complex
arrangements, love to be a part of a tight group that performs fun and unique
music and can participate in weekly rehearsals (Tuesday evenings in the
Montclair district of Oakland), contact us!

Think you've got what it takes? Reply to roshambosings@... and tell us
about your experience. Please include a recording or a link to a recording with
you as the featured soloist and a recording with you singing a background part.
The recordings do not have to be professional.

We look forward to hearing from you! Samples of our music can be found on our

Hey all,

Jay Jordana previously posted a note about the auditions that Amaranth is
holding. I wanted to add my encouragement to anyone out there who wants to be
part of a truly top notch jazz-centered a cappella group.

I'm honored to be singing bass with this group.

Jay was previously the lead soprano in +4dB who rapidly won the regional sweeps,
and quickly ascended to second in the national finals.

Baritone Wil Matthews and I both have lots of choral, barbershop and a cappella
experience, including being section leaders in San Jose's Voices in Harmony when
we won the bronze medal chorus at the Barbershop International.

Finally, Artistic Director Daniel Hughes has won numerous accolades as the
director of The Choral Project in San Jose and numerous other groups.

We've had a great first year together, and we now need the right tenor and alto
to round out this group.

For anyone who wants to join a group dedicated to musical excellence, honest
engaging performance, and individual growth and learning, this is a great
opportunity.

If you are interested, please send an email to: audition@...

tickets to see a capella sensation, Naturally Seven!

Wednesday June 9

10pm show $15- with the discount $12

Enter Discount Code: SEVEN

Naturally 7 is the hybrid of an a cappella group and a traditional band.

The band members have found unique aspects of their own voices to determine
which members would BE which instrument. In essence, “VOCAL PLAY” was born.
What is the difference between Vocal Play and a cappella? A cappella is
defined as singing without instruments. Vocal Play is singing AS
instruments, and BECOMING an instrument with the voice.

What makes Naturally 7 special, is that every instrument sound that they
sing is created from the human voice. There are no actual drums, guitars,
horns, flutes, or any other instrument that is heard when listening to them
perform; it’s the band members playing each of their vocal instruments.

The group appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, performing
“Stardust” with Michael Bublé. In November 09, the group travelled to
Bermuda, taking part in Quincy Jones’ 2009 Bermuda Music Festival performing

Hi-

I am writing from Paramount Pictures to let you know that one of the most
beloved movie musicals of all time, Grease, is back! This time, it’s a
special sing-a-long version.

We are reaching out to groups that we knew would love to sing-a-long, and we
thought, what better fit than a capella groups? We have launched a special
group sales initiative for performing arts groups. We'd love to share this
info with your members if you feel it's appropriate.

You can email Grease_GroupSales@... or call 877-789-GREASE (4732)
now to book your tickets.

Currently, the Grease Sing-A-Long will be opening on July 8th, 2010 in
selected cities, listed here: http://www.GreaseMovie.com. You can demand it
here: http://www.Eventful.com/Grease.

Please let us know if you need any more information or if you would like to
post the trailer on your site.

Wanted!

Musically Omnivorous Singers

interested in everything from Monteverdi to Meredith Monk

Now is your chance to be part of the Bay Area's most innovative chorus, the
Grammy-nominated Pacific Mozart Ensemble!

WHO IS PME? Entering its 30th season, this 55-voice ensemble is best known
for its wide-ranging artistic collaborations and ground-breaking
commissions. Under the leadership of Music Director Lynne Morrow and
Artistic Director Richard Grant, PME performs throughout the Bay Area and
often beyond. In 2005, PME was nominated for a Grammy for its recording of
Bernstein's Mass, with Kent Nagano, Jerry Hadley, and the Deutsches
Symphonie-Orchester. Recent PME collaborators have included Dave Brubeck,
Bobby McFerrin, Meredith Monk, Sufjan Stevens, Sweet Honey in the Rock, and
the Napa Valley Symphony.

The 2010-11 30th anniversary season will feature the premieres of
site-specific commissions for the Hamilton Tower at Oliver Ranch by Bay Area
composers Amy X Neuberg and Sanford Dole; a retrospective "best of" program
of classical repertoire; and the "best of" PME's annual and highly popular A
Cappella Jazz & Pop concerts in June.

****************************

If you are an experienced singer, accomplished sight-reader, and interested
in exploring a range of musical genres, then PME is for you! Solos are
auditioned from within PME, so both solo and choral singers are welcome.

PME rehearses Monday nights at the Crowden Music School , located at Rose
and Sacramento Streets in Berkeley , near the North Berkeley BART station.
Concerts are held 3 or 4 times each season throughout the Bay Area (and
occasionally beyond.)

Auditions are by appointment in July:

"CircleSinging: The Next Generation" workshop
Saturday June 26th 2-5pm $30
The Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse, 2120 Addison St., Berkeley

What is CircleSinging ? The set-up is simple: vocalists stand in a
circle
while the leader, who stands in the middle, creates a series of short,
overlapping phrases for you to sing.  Because you're grouped into
sections,
there's the built-in advantage of hearing your part sung by others,
as well as the opportunity to harmonize a part.  The vocal loops needn't
become rigid because the leader is free to shape them, change them,
or take them out entirely.  There's also the opportunity for you to come
into the center and improvise over the whole texture.

After leading CircleSinging for decades, my approach now incorporates
three exciting developments:
1) Building your rhythm skills with hand clapping, body and vocal
percussion,
along with playing actual percussion instruments while you sing.
2) Coaching you on improvisation skills and vocal technique when you're
in the center of the circle.
3) Training you to co-lead the Circle by learning how to create
compelling
new vocal parts.

"CircleSinging" is one of the most entertaining ways of singing with a
group,
and it has the advantage of not being style specific, so the only
limitation is
your imagination.  Don't be surprised when you come home inspired to
create
your own multi-layered pieces, or invite your friends over to do more
of this kind
of singing as a group.

Hi All

Bay Area Showcase Chorus (Santa Clara) is looking for a small performance space
to rent on a Saturday (no specific date yet)and I hope someone on this list can
help us.

   Things it must have:

Be located in the South Bay, Peninsula or Lower East Bay (south of Union City)
A stage (At least 12 feet wide) with side entrances.
Seat or provide seating space for at least 50 audience members
(No coffee shops)

It does not need to accommodate risers.

And of course be reasonably priced. That's the real kicker!

I'm sure many of you have had opportunities to perform in such a venue.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Our group is undergoing some reorganization, and we are looking for more
voices! We have a lot of flexibility and could add a few different voices of
any range.

Our core repertoire is jazz/pop, with a few other styles of music as the
mood strikes us. We sing fun stuff, anything from the Real Group, Manhattan
Transfer, Vox One and Michelle Weir to the Bobs and our own custom
arrangements of contemporary pop. It is our goal to sing music that is
challenging and interesting, to perform it well and to strive for excellence
– passion and entertainment are as important as pitch and rhythm. We believe
that hard work and fun are not mutually exclusive!

VoiceCraft currently rehearses on Wednesday evenings in San Francisco and,
on occasion, we schedule extra rehearsals as the group’s schedule permits.
Performances are all over the bay area and range from private parties to
clubs and concert halls (and one goal is to participate in Harmony
Sweepstakes!).

The current members have broad singing experience and have performed with
many Bay Area ensembles, choruses, theater troops, and a cappella groups –
and Harmony Sweepstakes.

We're looking for people who:

· Have experience singing harmony (preferably a cappella)
· Have the ability to blend with other voices in the group
· Enjoy singing solos
· Hear and sing those crunchy jazz notes
· Read music well enough to learn music outside rehearsal from sheet
music (ace sightreading not required)
· Are committed to rehearsing weekly
· Are comfortable with choreography
· Are comfortable singing both on and off mic
· Vocal percussion a plus but not required
· Arranging skills welcome

Auditions will involve singing a short solo of your choice, learning a piece
we'll send you, and possibly learning a new short piece during the audition.

Please contact djnorthbay@... for more information (Also feel free to
forward this to anyone you think might be interested – thanks!)

Given the fantastic success of last year's event, the city of Palo

(which is also the closest Sunday to the Summer Solstice)!

This year, Palo Alto World Music Day will take place on Sunday June 20,
from 3:00 pm - 7:30 pm. Like last year, it will take place downtown, on
University Avenue, King Plaza (City Hall) and surrounding streets. The
format of event will be exactly the same as last year, except that there
will be 3 time slots, instead of 2.

Born to Drone will be performing from 3-3:45pm in the same place as last
year, 540 Bryant Street, in front of Dog Town. We will have CDs
available for sale (at our discounted live performance rate of $10 each).

First requirement: Must have been a former member of the San Francisco Boys
Chorus. We are SFBC alumni and have a male a Cappella group that will sing
Baroque to Barbershop music.

We need countertenor, tenor, and low bass voices. Must be versatile to sing all
genres of music, thus the name Generations. We welcome vocal percussionists and
will perform in a variety of venues. The groups origins have been primarily in
the Barbershop style, but we are expanding toward all styles. Our repertoire is
fun, uncomplicated, and high quality.

We currently rehearse on Sunday afternoons in San Francisco, however, there are
expectations to learn most of your music on your own. Must be able to
sight-read, of course, and have a wide vocal range to be able to sing where
needed. Our vocal coach is a SF Conservatory-trained SF Opera singer.

Please contact timsalaver@.... Look forward to hearing from you.
