Hello!

This is my 1st attempt to get guidance on how I can check out some a cappella
groups within the SF Bay Area. Preferably a group who can come to El Cerrito
(wedding reception location). My Fiance is hooked on Glee, and to have a special
surprise of an a cappella group perform a few songs would be taking the dream
wedding to another level.

Is there any way I can listen to some to groups to potentially hire? How can I
found out what groups charge on average, and any other FAQ's?

Please advise.

Hello Prospective Singers!

A few months ago a group of us ladies got together to start an a capella group.
We have a wide range of backgrounds but have all been in a musical group at some
point. There are just 5 of us 20somethings gals (an A2, an A1, a S2 and 2 S1s)
and though we sound great and have a good time together we realize that we are
in need of more singers. We do not have a name yet and have no scheduled
performances, so you would be joining the group in the beginning stages and have
just as much say as we all do.

We meet once a week, Tuesday from 8-10pm, in SOMA near the ball park. We have
gravitated toward singing more popular songs but haven't been together long
enough to experiment further and suspect that we are pretty open to doing so.

Please email us with your musical background and a realistic sense of how much
you can commit to our group (everyone has conflicts come up now and then, but
we're looking for members who can make it nearly every week). We look forward to
hearing from you!

  *What are TROBAIRITZ?*
[image: Comtezza de Dia]The Trobairitz were Occitan female troubadours of
the 12th and 13th centuries, active from around 1170 to approximately 1260.
The word Trobairitz was first used in the 13th-century romance Flamenca. It
comes from the Provençal word trobar, the literal meaning of which is "to
find", and the technical meaning of which is "to compose".
Trobairitzcomposed, wrote verses, and performed for the Occitan noble
courts. They are
exceptional in musical history as the first known female composers of
Western secular music; all earlier known female composers wrote sacred
music. The Trobairitz were part of courtly society, as opposed to their
lower class counterparts the Joglaressas. Although troubadours frequently
came from humble origins the Trobairitz were nobly born. Among the most
important Trobairitz are Alamanda de Castelnau, Azalais de Porcairagues,
Maria de Ventadorn, Tibors, Castelloza, Garsenda de Proença, Gormonda de
Monpeslier, and the Comtessa de Diá (pictured from a Medieval manuscript).

Musically Omnivorous Singers

interested in everything from Monteverdi to Meredith Monk

Now is your chance to be part of the Bay Area's most innovative chorus, the
Grammy-nominated Pacific Mozart Ensemble!

WHO IS PME? Entering its 30th season, this 55-voice ensemble is best known
for its wide-ranging artistic collaborations and ground-breaking
commissions. Under the leadership of Music Director Lynne Morrow and
Artistic Director Richard Grant, PME performs throughout the Bay Area and
often beyond. In 2005, PME was nominated for a Grammy for its recording of
Bernstein's Mass, with Kent Nagano, Jerry Hadley, and the Deutsches
Symphonie-Orchester. Recent PME collaborators have included Dave Brubeck,
Bobby McFerrin, Meredith Monk, Sufjan Stevens, Sweet Honey in the Rock, and
the Napa Valley Symphony.

The 2010-11 30th anniversary season will feature the premieres of
site-specific commissions for the Hamilton Tower at Oliver Ranch by Bay Area
composers Amy X Neuberg and Sanford Dole; a retrospective "best of" program
of classical repertoire; and the "best of" PME's annual and highly popular A
Cappella Jazz & Pop concerts in June.

****************************

If you are an experienced singer, accomplished sight-reader, and interested
in exploring a range of musical genres, then PME is for you! Solos are

Greetings, Bay Area singers.

I’ve assembled an excellent 16-voice chorus (SATB, 4 singers on a
part) and have lined up several concerts featuring a variety of my
choral works, some a cappella, some accompanied w/piano/organ,
including several premiere performances.

It happens one of my two baritones now might not be available for the
first gigs, Sat. Dec. 4 (8pm, Bkly), Sun. Dec. 5, 4pm, Portola Valley
(and there might be a 3rd, for Fri. Dec. 3, 8pm, Redwood City, still
tbd). Concert runs 1-hour.

SInger must have a trained voice, be an excellent reader, have
experience singing in a chorus, be a team player, and be able to
receive pdf’s of scores and midi’s of the tracks from my Mac mini.

There are a total of 15 pieces on the program: mostly Psalm or sacred
texts, and several elaborate settings of beloved carols. Music is
tricky. I’ve requested my singers woodshed at home before one or two
sectional rehearsals, plus one, maybe two, full chorus rehearsals,
before the first gig. Rehearsals w/b scheduled around everyone’s pre-
existing conflicts and most likely held at my place in Daly City, just
off 280, two blocks from Serramonte and right down the hill from Seton
Med. Ctr.

There will be an honorarium.

Interested parties should contact me directly: Ken@..., not
via this listserv.

Thanks for your interest,

Maurice Duruflé¹s beloved Requiem has been an audience favorite since its
first performance in 1948. It is based on the Gregorian chants used in the
Mass for the Dead, and actual chant melodies are interspersed throughout its
nine movements. Duruflé¹s work emphasizes tranquility, rest, and peace,
although it includes moments of deep passion.

Felix Mendelssohn composed his exciting, double chorus, twelve-movement Te
Deum when he was only 17. This rarely performed, surprisingly mature
composition pays homage to a number of composers and styles, including Bach,
Handel, Mozart, Giovanni Gabrieli, and music of Baroque Venice. It also
expresses the pure beauty and joy of Mendelssohn.

A new SATB a Cappella Chorus is forming. Singing starts at 7:30 pm on Wednesdays
at St. Clare's Church on 3350 Hopyard Rd in Pleasanton.
(at So Valley Trails Rd). Chorus is led by Internationally-renowned chorus
director Dr. Greg Lyne (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Lyne). The intent is
to create a high quality, top tier chorus singing Jazz, Traditional, Barbershop,
Spiritual, and Contemporary a Cappella.

As a new chorus, we're are looking for singers with experience who love to sing
and have a desire to make great music. The chorus does not even have a name it
is so new.

For more information:

-Go to www.maxie24.com/bamco/bamco.html or
-Send an email to Jeanette Butler at bamco@..., or
-Call 925-457-4088

If we meet our summer singing goals, this could become a permanent chorus with
great potential. We've already held two rehearsals with wonderful success. We
already have singers coming from Marin, San Jose, East Bay, and beyond.

to spiritual levitation" as well as recognition for our
imaginative programming and lauded as "a standout within the crowded
field of Bay Area early music ensembles" by San Francisco Classical Voice (July
2009).  We are dedicated to performing and exploring the a cappella choral music

Hi,

My friend and I (both sopranos) want to give a voice recital - duets, solos,
classical style and some Gershwin/Broadway.

Could anyone give me any ideas about an ideal venue for this? We would prefer a
place somewhere in the South Bay/the Peninsula. It would be great if the place
had a piano (otherwise I could bring my digital piano, in which case we would
need some "sound"=microphone etc.).

Also, we can accompany eachother on some songs but for the duets and maybe a few
more pieces we are looking for a fun accompanist (who could offer us a
reasonable rate).

Thank you so much for any suggestions you might have!!

Camerata of Grace Cathedral Auditions for 2010

Camerata of Grace Cathedral, a chamber choir of about 24 musicians will be
holding auditions. Our schedule has us sing about 4 services a month at either
the Sunday Choral Evensong or the Sunday Morning Choral Eucharist in one of the
most magnificent, majestic and beautiful places of worship in the nation.

Under the direction of Canon of Music, Benjamin Bachmann, Camerata has steadily
become an outstanding musical ensemble since its inception in the Fall of 2005.
Our weekly rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Camerata
sings a diverse repertoire of Medieval Chant, Renaissance and Baroque motets,
Anglican Anthems and newly composed sacred works. Interested singers must have
choral experience, read music, and commit to regular rehearsals. This is an
excellent opportunity to offer one's musical gifts in a vitally important
ministry to the community. Cathedral membership is not required.

For more information about this choir, or to arrange an audition, please contact
the music office at: 415-749-6332

Auditions are held by appointment. You will be requested to sing a prepared
piece of any style that shows your vocal ability and musicality (a hymn or
classical selection), and also do some vocalizing and sight-reading. The
audition lasts 10-12 minutes. An accompanist will be provided. There are
openings for all voices.
