Greetings, All!

Just a reminder: This coming Sat. Apr. 28, 3:00 pm, two of my new sacred choral works are being premiered at this year's AGO (Amer. Gld. of Organists) Bay Area regional concert, being presented at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 670 E. Meadow Drive (off Middlefield), Palo Alto.  The approx. 1-hour concert also features works by 5 other regional composers.  Admission is free.

My pieces: "My Heart Is Steadfast, O God" (from Ps. 108) and "Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace" (Prayer of St. Francis).  The latter is quite lush.

Hope you can make it.  Thanks as always for your support.

The Peninsulaires Chorus is sponsoring THE SINGER’S VOICE CLINIC -- a free vocal training program, specifically for men, who would like to improve their singing skills.

This free six-week clinic will begin on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 and run through Tuesday, June 19th. Each lesson in the series will run approximately 90 minutes. Students will gain the most by attending all six lessons. Nevertheless, each topic is a stand-a-lone subject and you will benefit from however many lessons you can attend. The program is designed to provide real world, hands on training in the fundamentals of singing, From the very first lesson, you will learn skills you can immediately apply to your current singing activity.

The clinic will be conducted at the multi-purpose facility of First United Methodist Church of Sunnyvale. 535 Old San Francisco Road, Sunnyvale 94086. Sessions will begin at 7:30 PM.

This program is sponsored by The Peninsulaires Men's Chorus - The Palo Alto Mountain View Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. For more information and to register for the program, please visit www.freevoicelessons.net or call John Hinkle at 408 896-0444.

Subject: Sing Berlioz Requiem in Davies Hall, August 5
helene_whitson
Send Email Send Email

Summer 2012 brings a special opportunity for Bay Area singers to sing Hector Berlioz’s dramatic Requiem in San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall, as well as several other choral selections.   This performance is a collaborative effort of several groups:  the Finger Lakes (New York) Choral Festival, directed by Adrian (Andy) Horn, the Rochester (New York) Oratorio Society, directed by Eric Townell, the San Francisco Lyric Chorus, directed by Robert Gurney, and the 100+-member Redwood Symphony Orchestra (including four brass choirs), conducted by Eric Kujawsky. The 240-voice chorus will consist of about 100 singers from the NY groups, and 140 singers drawn from SF Bay area choruses.

Program:

Berlioz Requiem, conducted by Eric Kujawsky
Shepherd’s Farewell from Berlioz’s L’Enfance du Christ, conducted by Robert Gurney
Final scene from Boito’s opera Mefistofele, conducted by Adrian G. Horn
Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, conducted by Eric Townell

The San Francisco Lyric Chorus, directed by Robert Gurney, is organizing the rehearsals for San Francisco Bay Area choral singers.  We need approximately 140 experienced singers from Bay Area choruses, and invite you to join us.

The Berlioz Requiem was scored originally for soprano, tenor and bass.  Adrian Horn has created a new edition, which includes an alto part, so we are recruiting singers in all voice parts.   Tenors and basses especially are welcome.  We have these special scores, as well as practice CDs, available for purchase before the first rehearsal.

To register, visit the San Francisco Lyric Chorus webpage:  http://www.sflc.org.  Download the registration form.  By filling it out completely, you can register and order your scores and practice CDs.  Scores will be mailed upon receipt of your check.  For further information, contact Didi Boring, 415-922-0582, email berlioz@....

When rehearsals begin, we will collect another $50 to pay for ongoing rehearsal expenses (conductor, accompanist, rehearsal facility, etc.).

Rehearsals will begin Monday, May 14, 2012.

Rehearsals will be held on Monday nights from 7:15-9:45 p.m. at:
First Unitarian Universalist Church
1187 Franklin Street (Franklin and Geary)
San Francisco

The concert will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at 3 p.m.

quartet action (you can sing along)! Then the chorus will sing a few more. The
concert is free, but donations to the Youth Harmony Foundation will be

Come sing with East Bay Harmony Chorus!
Rehearsals for our 2012-13 season begin Monday, May 14th.

Tenors and basses especially encouraged.

East Bay Harmony is a mixed a cappella community chorus
that rehearses weekly in Oakland and is open to all adults.
We exist to promote the fun of singing together and building
community through singing. We perform periodically around
the Bay Area in addition to two annual "Friends and Family"
concerts.

We have no auditions, and the ability to read music is not a
requirement (we use recordings and other technology to help
people learn the music). We have a lot of fun, but we also work
hard.

Our repertoire is all a cappella, and generally consists of a
combination of rock/pop, doo-wop, jazz, spirituals, world music,
musical theater, and whatever people suggest (choosing repertoire is
a pretty democratic process).

Rehearsals are held Monday nights from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at St. Paul's
Episcopal Church at 114 Montecito Ave. in Oakland (near where Harrison
meets Grand Ave., right next to Lake Merritt). We're not affiliated with the
church; we just rent space there.

Please check out our website at http://www.eastbayharmony.org,
where you can get a sense of our repertoire and see videos of us
performing. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at
membership@....

Thanks!

Bay Choral Guild will present All Night Vigil by Sergei Rachmaninov on June 8, 9
and 10, just a little more than a month from now. If you're familiar with the
work, you know how wonderful it is, so mark your calendars! We're very excited

rehearsals are amazing! More information follows, including dates, locations

Mary

All Night Vigil by Sergei Rachmaninov

Bay Choral Guild’s season finale is Sergei Rachmaninov’s glorious All Night
Vigil. Although often referred to as Vespers, the piece is a setting of 15
texts from the Russian Orthodox All-Night Vigil ceremony, including six
movements from the canonical Russian Orthodox hour of Vespers. One of
Rachmaninov’s favorite compositions, his genius transformed ancient Russian
liturgical chant and modern folk themes into a highly dramatic, and demanding, a
cappella choral masterpiece. With delicate shifts in harmony, great washes of
sound and abrupt pianissimos the music evokes wide extremes of mood and
otherworldliness – truly a vibrant, powerful musical experience.

Hello,

I am looking to find some local acappella groups in the south bay area,
I am in San Jose, I produce a 7 week outdoor concert in Willow Glen (a community

I am hoping the my idea to have local acappella grps to come and sing a few

Maybe 2 or three songs, the ability to promote events they will be performing at
and also to bring live acappella to our community.

If anyone would like to help me with this please let me know.

Expressway is a small (8 member) group of men and women - we are currently
looking for a high soprano to join the group. We are a fun-loving, eclectic
bunch who enjoy performing doo wop, jazz, pop, and holiday music.

We rehearse every Sunday night from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm in Cupertino near
Homestead & Wolfe.

Performances have included private parties, senior citizen communities, and
local cafes. We do this mostly for fun but we are trying to sound as
professional as possible :) Sight-reading is not required, but being able to
memorize a part and sing on-key is a must! We have audio files to help members
learn their parts. Currently, there are no fees involved and costumes consist
of an all-black outfit with one bright colored piece (tie, shirt, belt, etc.)
and nice black shoes.

If you are interested in auditioning, please email me at

Hi Guys

I'm going to be in San Jose from May 28th until June the 4th for work. I'm a big
fan of contemporary a cappella music (& barbershop music too).

Are there any gigs (or practices) that I could come along to?

I'm a fan of a cappella groups a bit like Cadence & House Jacks, and barbershop
quartets like Crossroads.

I will probably be heading along to the Voices in Harmony chorus practice.

Thanks!

Are you a tenor or bass? Miss your college a cappella group and wish
you had a great group of people to sing with on a regular basis?

Scales of the City is a new mixed a cappella group from San Francisco.
We have around 20 members, mostly in our 20's and 30's. We believe in
making beautiful music, having lots of fun, and sharing the solos
around so everyone has a chance to strut their stuff.

We rehearse weekly on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:00pm. Our rehearsal
locations rotate, but are close to the Church or 4th and King muni
stations.

If this sounds like your kind of fun, we'd love to have you meet the
group at our next rehearsal. Email me with your name and a little bit
about your musical background, and I'll let you know where we'll be
next week.

Greetings!

The Oakland Jazz Choir (OJC) is excited to announce the launch of its Kickstarter campaign to help fund a new demo that will help us to continue our work in the Oakland community.

OJC has been bringing unique and diverse vocal jazz to the Bay Area since 1992. Since becoming its own non-profit in 2005, OJC has strived to bring performances to under served communities in the Bay Area as well as education workshops into the Oakland Public Schools.

We have not produced a new demo since 2005. Since then, our repertoire has evolved substantially and our old demo doesn't reflect our new, dynamic, sound.

After rent and musician and director fees, there's not much left for recording.

This demo will reflect our most current repertoire and will be valuable in securing more performance opportunities. The more visible we are, the more good work we can accomplish!

This is an ALL or NOTHING venture so if we don't reach our pledge goal in the allotted time, we won't receive anything.

Your cherished and timely participation will be graciously appreciated and as a bonus you will receive some nice OJC gifts as thanks!

To participate, please click on this link: Kickstarter

All pledges are tax deductible.

So spread the word if you'd like. We'd love to see you at our upcoming Jazz at the Chimes gig July 15th at the beautiful Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland.

You are all a part of this beautiful OJC community.
We exist because of jazz but most importantly, because of you.
Our deepest gratitude.

All the Best,

Direct from New York (via a galaxy far, far away) comes VOCA PEOPLE - an out-of-this world musical theatre event that combines vocals sounds, a cappella singing, comedy and the art of beat box. A new inter-galactic phenomenon like no other show. The singing aliens from the planet VOCA have come to San Francisco seeking fuel in the form of musical energy for their grounded spacecraft. Their mission: to refuel their spaceship by performing the music of Earthlings and return safely back to planet Voca.

Created by Lior Kalfo and Shai Fishman,
VOCA PEOPLE is performed by eight snow-white, ruby-lipped aliens with perfect harmony--there are no musical instruments, no sound effects, only vocals! Performed with humor and the help of the audience, VOCA PEOPLE features a cappella and beat box versions of over 70 well known songs, including hits from Madonna, Queen and even Mozart.

"Mega-galactic superstars!"

The Merrie Olde Christmas Carolers, the world's largest PROFESSIONAL caroling
company, is auditioning new singers for the 2012 season.

We are looking for soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices throughout the
Sacramento Area, as far south as Vacaville and especially in Roseville, Lincoln,
and Granite Bay.
MOCC sings original arrangements of standard holiday carols and songs, and
the singers dress in traditional Dickensian costumes (which they must supply).

All gigs are paid, and engagements range from small private parties to shopping
mall and corporate gigs. Singers must have excellent pitch, be able to learn
tricky harmonic and rhythmic arrangements and hold their own in an a cappella
solo quartet situation.

For further information contact Erin at tmoccsac@... or 650-906-9853.

Wow!

Through our Kickstarter "crowdfunding" campaign and your help, we are 40% funded towards our 2nd demo cd in our 20 year existence!

But Kickstarter is an ALL or NOTHING venture and we have a $2500 pledge goal. If we don't make it by the deadline of JULY 1st, we won't get the money.

Please consider a tax deductible donation and get some some cool OJC swag and a big THANK YOU on our website.

Learn more about us through our video and narrative and help this little non-profit community jazz choir to survive and thrive!

Your cherished and timely participation will be graciously appreciated.
If you've never donated, this is a great opportunity!

A heartfelt thanks  & please spread the word!
The Oakland Jazz Choir
