Greetings from Ken Malucelli at ACC (A Cappella Central, div. Prince/
SF Prodns).
Short notice, but this just flew in:
I'm in need of a hip, young male (special request from sponsor) vocal
group, fun and upbeat, ideally a quartet, to perform a few tunes at a
convention in San Francisco of a major clothier on Mon. Dec. 7,
between 3:00-4:30pm, with a rehearsal earlier that day; time TBA.
Fee clear to the group: $1500. Need to secure a group ASAP. If
interested (be sure to read specs, below) and available, please e-mail
me direct: Ken@...
The gimmick behind the campaign is for young men to reclaim their
manhood and "WEAR THE PANTS." The vocal group will kick off and end
the presentation with a few songs. The main song required is a TV
commercial: "I Wear No Pants." Music w/b provided. Midi available
now. Important: The client needs the vocal group to perform this song
sans pants (no, this is not a joke). They will otherwise dress the
guys in khakis and shirts.
Suggestions for a few of the other tunes the group could sing:
- It's a Man's Man's World (James Brown)
- Hot Pants (James Brown)
- Soul Man (Sam & Dave)
- Walk Like a Man (Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons)
- Let's Hear it for the Boy (Denice Williams - from "Footloose")
- What A Man (Salt & Pepa featuring En Vogue)
- Man in the Mirror (Michael Jackson)
and for the encore...
- Macho Man (Village People)
Thanks,
KM

the finest choral groups in the Bay Area. Led by artistic director
Jude Navari, who is active throughout the Bay Area as a conductor and
composer, the Ensemble has been described as having a particularly
lush and ethereal quality. Voci champions music by women and for women
and commissions new works by contemporary composers, especially from
the San Francisco Bay Area. The group’s size of 24 voices conveys a
poignant intimacy and allows for a deep, personal connection among
chorus members and between chorus and audience. Voci’s commitment to
musical excellence, unique mastery of style and technique, and
adventurous and innovative programming have earned high praise from
critics and choral musicians alike. The singers are women of all ages
and walks of life who share a passionate love of music, fierce
dedication to the ensemble, and deep commitment to the community.
Voci has given benefit performances for the Oakland firestorm victims,
the Faithful Fools Street Ministry of San Francisco, Adopt A Special
Kid, and the Global Fund for Women.

present Ralph Vaughan Williams, DONA NOBIS PACEM, "an eloquent plea for peace",
and Samuel Barber, AGNUS DEI
Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) created one of the great choral masterpieces
of the 20th century with his Dona Nobis Pacem. Composed in the mid 1930s (as the
drums of war beat across Europe) this score is a deeply moving plea for peace.
Vaughan Williams combined traditional Latin texts with the powerful verbal
imagery of Walt Whitman who, like the composer, knew the horrors of war first
hand. Plainsong and British folk song infuse Vaughan Williams's musical language
which is thoroughly rooted in early 20th century tonality. The hard edged
lyricism of the Dona Nobis Pacem speaks eloquently of the futility of war. That
message remains timely today.

GOLDEN GATE MEN’S CHORUS
PROUDLY PROCLAIMS “’TIS THE SEASON!”
Interim Music Director Anthony Pasqua conducts Tuesday, December 8th,
Thursday, December 10th, & Tuesday, December 15th at 8:00 PM, & Saturday,
December 12th at 3:00 PM, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, November 2009 – The Golden Gate Men’s Chorus (GGMC), the
premier men’s chorus in San Francisco, ushers in the holiday season with a
joyful proclamation of, “’Tis the Season!”
In a season that included the tearful departure of beloved mentor Joseph
Jennings, the men of the GGMC and interim music director Anthony Pasqua
continue their annual holiday tradition of honoring the close of a year and the
promise & hope of the New Year to come. Using an underlying theme of “
transformation & refraction,” the men of the chorus will take familiar
holiday
classics like “Ave Maria” and present various arrangements of them,
allowing the audience to experience each piece through the prism of the
individual composer’s vision. We will offer variations on a theme within the
setting of peace, love, & tranquility of the holiday.
Never fear, GGMC will continue their custom of candlelight procession,
followed by songs of the mother and child, including pieces by early composers
Tallis, Brumel, Monteverdi and Ockeghem, as well as more recent
compositions by Respighi, Stravinsky, Grieg and Debussy. In addition, our
audience
favorite, the Christmas carol sing-a-long, is guaranteed to surround and
fill the audience with the magic, spirit, and joy of the season. “
Counterpoint,” the highly regarded small ensemble, will also be featured.
Through
this challenging season of change, GGMC celebrates the holiday season with the
very best in male choral literature.
Please join us on our journey of transformation with our annual holiday
concert series as we warmly & proudly proclaim, “’Tis The Season!”
The performances will be Tuesday, December 8th, Thursday, December 10th,
& Tuesday, December 15th at 8:00 PM, & Saturday, December 12th at 3:00 PM,
at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, San Francisco

About the Interim Music Director
Anthony Pasqua comes to us with substantial academic and choral
experience, including a previous stint as Music Director for GGMC in the summer
of
1990. Following completion of degrees in music theory and choral music, Tony
has lectured at the University of Southern California, conducted and
lectured at California State Polytechnic University, and served as Director of
UC Choral Ensembles at UC Berkeley. His conducting credits include the Men’
s Chorus of Orange County, the Oakland Symphony Chorus, and VOCI Women’s
Choral Ensemble in Oakland. He currently sings with the San Francisco
Symphony Chorus.
About the Chorus
The Golden Gate Men’s Chorus (GGMC) was formed by Dick Kramer in 1982 as
the Dick Kramer Gay Men’s Chorale. Mr. Kramer, one of the founding fathers
of the American gay choral movement, envisioned a small men’s ensemble
reminiscent of university men’s choruses of 19th-century Europe. Reorganized
as
the Golden Gate Men’s Chorus in 1988, the GGMC continues to present high
quality performances of men’s choral music. The GGMC presents spring, summer
and winter programs annually, in addition to guest and community benefit
performances throughout the year.
The Golden Gate Men’s Chorus is a select group of 50 men representing the
ethnic and social diversity of San Francisco who share a common
appreciation of choral music. The GGMC strives for musical excellence,
provides a
productive social fellowship for its members, and aims to present the rich
tradition of choral music to the broad and diverse components of the San
Francisco Bay Area community.
The GGMC is proud to be supported by the San Francisco Grants for the
Arts/SF Hotel Tax Fund and is a member of GALA Choruses, an international
organization of gay- and lesbian-identified and supportive choruses.
For more information, visit the GGMC Web site at _www.ggmc.org_
(http://www.ggmc.org/) or contact the chorus at (415) 668-GGMC.
