"Next Generation Blues"
Press Release

Mack 9 Records is proud to announce the release of artist Charles
Mack's solo album "Next Generation Blues".

CD Release date and location:
April 14, 2005
Kingston Mines
2548 N. Halsted
Chicago, Illinois 60614
773-477-4646
8:00pm CD listening party
10:30pm CD release party

The album is a mixture of Blues, Funk, Soul and Rock, giving it a
new sound. Blending the styles of Luther Allison, Jimmy Hendrix,
Seal, and George Clinton, the CD leads the way to the next level of
blues.

"Keep your eyes open for this guy; you will be seeing a lot of him
soon"
Dominique DESMONS, JFD Productions

"Jimmy Hendrix would have loved "Katie's Alone." It's incredibly
soulful while possessing a blues rock sensibility that would have
inspired one of his trademark psychedelic solos."
David Budge, Rooster Publicity

"I dug the bluesy guitar on "Katie's Alone" -- has a little of the
Clapton or Gary Moore feel to it."
Randall Davis, CSC

Artist appearing on the "Next Generation Blues" album include Billy
Branch, Maurice John Vaughn, Darek Jackson (formerly of Al Jareau
and Kenny Loggins), Sumito-Ariyo Ariyoshi (Billy Branch Band), Mark
Mack (Drummer for James Cotton and former member of Ko Ko Taylor's
Blues Machine), Nigel Mack, Brian James (Lonnie Brooks Band), Brady
Williams, Osee Anderson, Rob Blaine (Little Milton Band) and
Roosevelt Purifoy (Carlos Johnson Band).

From classical and contemporary jazz to blues, R&B, and hip-hop,
Charles's virtuosity transcends genres. As a professional bassist,
Charles has performed with the Army and Navy Bands nationally and
internationally in small ensembles, jazz trios, big bands, rock
banks, and country groups. Charles's talents on the bass graduated
him in the top 5% of the Navy School of music program. As a
freelance musician, Charles has recorded with house music Diva Cee
Cee Peniston, Farly Funk Master and George Jackson; shared the stage
with the alternative rock group, Inflatable Soule, the rap group
Cypres Hill, Blues and R&B artist Bobby Rush, Otis Rush, Bobby
Bland, Jimmy Johnson, Otis Taylor, Shemekia Copeland, Ko Ko Taylor,
Buddy Guy, Marcia Ball, Maria Muldaur and numerous jazz ensembles.
Charles Mack served as permanent bassist for Chicago-based
Contemporary Jazz artist Carlos Canon and toured with Dallas-based,
Verve Records Blues/R&B artist Lucky Peterson. Charles also performs
with Grammy Award winner James Cotton.
The show along with Charles's vocals is powerful, intense and keeps
the audience on their toes.

A blog is like an online journal/diary. You can write whatever you
want, and you decide how much of your life to share with the world.
Be careful not to post personal information though. Some blogs allow
for private entries, or for private access only (so only people you
allow can read your blog). People sometimes write poetry on their
blogs, others use it for family & friends so they can communicate
with each other. It's become very popular these days. I like using
http://www.xanga.com or http://www.livejournal.com. But there are
many blog makers out there and usually they are all free. Most have
an option of becoming a premium member, which you have to pay a fee
to use, but you have more control over your blog, such as no
advertisements, etc. Hope that helps!

That's cool. In concert band I play anything they need me to play. In
Orchestra, the same. My college does not have a marching band, but I
am transferring out in August to USF, Where I am not sure what I will
be playing. I also clinician (teach) at a local high school (Lemon Bay
High), and doing DCI in October.

What might your questions be on the music?

Hi. I am the director of a new Independent Winter Guard and asking
for donations since our guard auditions are in August of this year.
The money so far is all coming out of my pocket and my drill designer
and caption head is selling me a guard floor for $400.00. I was
wondering if anyone in here would donate a small amount $5-$20 to help
me out to purchase the guard floor by May. Also searching for 3 guard
instructors and possible dance instructor, auditions are in August for
those who would be interested as well. E-mail me at
luflags@..., if you would be interested in joining or helping
with the guard. This is our first year and we want everyone to pray
that our first year is successful. If your interested in auditions as
well, schedule will be posted soon as well as the new website

I don't know if this will help you, but I posted this message 2/4/02
about double tonguing. It was a technique that the band used during
my senior year. I'm not sure how it works anymore since I didn't have
to do double tonguing (I was a mallet percussionist), but this
technique did work. I also don't remember what the stuff in
parenthesis means either, it's probably what note to do for each
range. The "tow kow", "too koo" and "ti ka" is the sound you're
supposed to be trying to make/say while you play your notes. I think
my director used to write rhythms on the board with these too, so
it's still using the concert scale but once people got used to it,
he'd make it fancier and then applied the technique to the parts in
the song.

Hope it helps!

========
Ok, so this is the excercise my director has written on the board for
double tounging:
This excercise is used with Bb concert scale. Do them
2x through each range.

Low notes: Tow Kow(Low 5 - F)
Medium notes: Too Koo (High 1 - Bb)
High notes: Ti Ka (High 5 - F)

On the board, there are 2 different set of measures with thirty
second rhythms and that's where the excercise is applied.<br><br>If
you are doing it correctly, you should be able to see your throat
move, if not, you're not double tounging.

Hope that helps. Just remember to start off slow and speed
up when you get the hang of it. You have to do this every day. That's
what we do, it's our warmup now. So far my director can see it
working with some of our trumpets, our french horn & trombone player.
He's just waiting for the whole band to be able to do this.

Well seeing as it's spring i thought i might bring this up. My band
just got back from Disneyland, and it was an awesome trip. I got to
just spend time with my friends in band and basically live with my
friends. Actually i'm glad for that cuz i'm planning to live with some
of them in coming years.
We marched in California Adventure, the peices we used were 'Tear the
Roof off the Sucker (Give up the Funk)', 'Soul Bossa Nova (the Austin
Power's theme), and 'Whistle While you Work and Heigh Ho'.
So has anyone else gone on a trip yet this year?

So the season is almost over now as school is starting to let out.
Have you guys gone on trips/competed yet... if so, what were your
results? My HS's orchestra participated in the Showcase Music
Festivals in New York from April 28 - May 1 and had the awards
ceremony at Six Flags Great Adventures in New Jersey (same trip I
went on during my sophomore year and the same park for the awards
ceremony during my senior year!). The full orchestra won first place,
superior; a sax player got outstanding soloist award; string
orchestra got 2nd, excellent; and 1st violins from string orchestra
got best section award.

The band is competing now as I speak, they are in Toronto, Canada.
They are there from May 12 - 15th I believe.

This is the first year that the band & orchestra participated on
different trips. This has never happened while I was there. It's good
for students who are a part of both groups (like I was), but it's
also bad because you're paying for 2 trips, and they're not any
cheaper if only certain groups go!

So if you still haven't gone on your trips, good luck! And if you
did, hope you did well!

Lets see, in early April we went to Disneyland and California
Adventure to mostly hang out. We marched in California Adventure and
our jazz band played at disneyland, no scores at this. It was just a
trip mostly for fun. We haven't done anything else yet this semester.
We have a band review on the 21st we'll be doing the marching band
competition, the drumline competition, the drill down, and our wind
ensemble will be playing "Overture to Candide" and "Mars" in the
concert competition. Then on the next tuesday the 24th we'll be
holding our spring awards concert. Our jazz band will play and then
our wind ensemble then our symphonic band, and all of us get our
awards and such and it'll be great fun. I'll post again after i have
scores to report.

So this is the update from my original post. The bands are back from
Canada, and they also did well. The marching, concert & jazz bands all
got 1st place, superior. The best section awards went to- Concert Band:
Percussion/mallets, Marching Band: Drum line, Jazz Band: Alto
Saxophones, there were 4 soloist awards, all went to jazz band members,
and the drum major got an award. The school also got overall best
instrumental group.

So that's 14 trophies total for the 5 music groups combined.

I'm really upset because right about now i should be in concert
warm-up getting ready to play in a competition. And i should already
have marched in the parade competition and the drum line should
already have done their competition. but yesterday during the last
class of the day there was an announcement canceling our trip out to
the band review.
Unfortunatly our director's son is back in the hospital, they think he
may have pnuemonia which would suck considering the kid's only 1 and
has gone through hell, what with the heart transplant and all.
only reason i'm sad is because i like that review, and i'm a senior,
it was my last review, I of course hope the kid's going to be
allright. so no scores to report, we have a concert on tuesday and
then that's it for the year..

Sorry to hear about what happened. Hope your director's kid gets well
soon. I know it must be hard missing the last review of your senior
year. During my senior year, we almost didn't even have a trip. Back
in 2001, the music department had planned on flying to St. Louis in
April 2002 for our annual trip. But then, the events of 9/11 occured
and students and parents felt uncomfortable flying. So that trip was
cancelled. Directors desperately searched for other festivals we could
go to, in the end, the marching, concert & jazz bands did end up going
on another trip-- a bus trip to Philadelphia, but the string & full
orchestras decided not to go on that trip. So the seniors involved in
orchestra didn't get their last trip, while the band members did. I'm
glad I was a member of all the groups, so no matter what, I would've
been able to go on a trip (if there was a trip planned).

We actually almost didn't have our last trip either. the seniors all
got together, got all the information, a travel agent, and arranged
everything, the only times we bothered the director was when we needed
a signature, or tax id, or something else that only he could give. we
even organized the fund raisers. so we ended up going because he gave
us permission to arrange it on our own, we knew we would be fine as
long as the kid didn't end up in the hospital around the trip.

Greetings!

If you don't know of anyone who needs to learn their scales or develop basic
technical skill in all 12 major keys, hit that delete key and have a great
day/(night).

If you do, and would like to skip my life story, you might like to proceed
to http://www.scalepower.com/scalepower.htm right now and investigate SCALE
POWER for WINDS, SCALE POWER for STRINGS, and SCALE POWER, School Edition.
SCALE POWER for WINDS is available for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Eb Saxophone,
Bb Saxophone, Bassoon, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Baritone
(T.C.), Tuba, and Mallets. SCALE POWER for STRINGS is available for Guitar
and Bass. SCALE POWER, School Edition is available for all of the above
instruments, but only available to school band directors for half price in
bulk orders (30 books minimum).

During my 15 years as a public school band director, I developed my own
materials to help my students learn more efficiently. When I left the public
arena to start Custom Creations Musical Services in 1993, I was contacted by
a former associate, who asked if she could have permission to use my scale
materials, as she couldn't find anything on the market that got the job done
as well. I agreed and the concept for SCALE POWER was born. I invested a
great deal of time in development and, over the years, have sold hundreds of
the School Edition books to local band directors without advertising - just
word of mouth! After more development and many rewrites, SCALE POWER is
ready to go and available online.

You can take the tour, including sample pages, at
http://www.scalepower.com/scalepower.htm.

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to send over an email to let you guys know how things
are going.

My tours are picking up and soon and I should be getting close to
your town. I have been getting great reviews on the cd both
national and internationally. If you're interested in getting the
cd, you can find it at http://www.cdbaby.com/charlesmack . The CD
is also available at Tower Records online. My web site is up but so
far the dates and other news are unavailable. I do have a few other
links that list the tour if you're interested in knowing where I
am.

http://www.charlesmack.com (New Site coming soon)

http://www.sonicbids.com/CharlesMack (Great site with all details)

http://www.myspace.com/charlesmack1 (Great Site!)

Soon the CD will be available for digital downloads at the following
(more to come) sites:

MusicMatch
MusicNow
MusicNet
LoudEye
MSN Music
NetMusic
Sony Connect
Rhapsody
Apple iTunes

I was told it would take about a month for the digital coding to
take effect.

I now have a publicist that is working on all publicity for me so
maybe in a few years, I will be famous. :)

The Charles Mack signature bass is coming out soon, just working on
the design with Jim Reed Guitars out of Italy. The publishing
company is working on getting music from the cd into film and TV (we
shall see how it goes).

"Next Generation Blues" CD Release Tour
I will be performing at Bradfordville Blues club at 7152 Moses Lane
on July 1st. I will be in Nashville, TN on July 2nd at Bourbon
Street Blues at 220 Printers Alley. This is the start of my "Next
Generation Blues" CD release tour. More shows to follow. Come down
if you're close and enjoy the party, I know we will. :)

Thank you guys again for all of your support and friendship. I
really appreciate that. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers as you
are in mine.

Much Love,

Charles
