Dear BHS and SAI Readers

A friend has asked me to share this performance opportunity.  It could be either a male or female quartet.

Margaret Jackins
Millennium Magic Chorus

Looking for a barbershop quartet for A Strange Serenade, a 10 minute play performing in The Shortened Attention Span Musical Festival at The Players Theatre Loft in Greenwich Village . Performance dates are March 12-15. There will be 6 or 7 short rehearsals (evenings/weekends) prior to opening.

A Strange Serenade features a barbershop quartet who follows a young woman around commenting on the action like a Greek chorus. There are no full songs – short lines of dialogue are sung by the quartet (think of the first appearance of the quartet in Music Man, when Harold Hill gets them to sing “ice cream.”)
 < /FONT>
Any and all types with barbershop experience encouraged. Acting experience a plus, but not required.

Producer may apply for Equity showcase. There is no pay, other than transportation for AEA members.

Please contact writer/director Mim Granahan at mimgranahan@...
Information on Mim’s previous plays can be found at freewebs.com/mimgranahan

Bill called today and said so far we have five appointments for each of the two quartets.
On Friday, we need to be at Lake Sherwood Acres Retirement Center (LSCRC) for 11:45 to sing there at 12:00.  At 11:45 at LSARC Bill will hand us roses and cards for both days.
We plan to meet at my house starting about 11:00 AM and ride with Doc. We need to leave my home at 11:15 sharp (somebody respond if I am wrong). Also, confirm that this is a good plan. I have plenty of parking space in front of my home, 1624 Leycester Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70808, 225-766-7365.
The Advocate contacted Bill and wants to do a feature story on our Valentine’s activity, beginning with the performance at Lake Sherwood Acres Retirement Center. Afterwards, they'll follow Bill's quartet.
At this time it appears our Friday ends after a 2:00 appointment in Central (Val’s friends). We start fairly early on Saturday and have three assignments ending at the 7:00 pm restaurant downtown. More calls may come, and some may be last minute after the feature in Saturday.
I met with Hugh today for that coaching we wanted to do. I will record me singing the two songs, email them to you, and ask you guys to plan to support my interpretation. Jared, I will call you when I have sent them.
Hugh handed me his tie and cumber bund for Jared to use and I have them in hand.

It could also mean that the voice is wavering from the it’s tonal centre enough to make a difference in the pitch of the notes but not necessarily enough to make it make it outright flat.  Next time you hear the phrase used, ask the person using it.  They may also have a slight variation on it’s meaning.

Cheers,

Jim

I can re-voice it for women if you are interested in purchasing it. Let me know.

There is one tiny change I would make to eliminate a possible music category deduction, but it's easy enough. (There's a major ninth chord during the reprise that could be treated differently.) Beyond that, I'm not sure, but it's always best to check with a music judge first. Just send them the demo and see what they think.

The Atlantic Harmony Brigade (www.AtlanticHarmonyBrigade.com) has two
remaining openings for 2 qualified tenors and two qualified leads.

The final dealine for applications has been extended for these two
voice parts to March 6th.

We are otherwise sold out. One hundred and twenty four extremely
capable, prescreened, well-prepared quartetters, consisting of 31 men
per voice part will convene for this summer's rally. Participants will
gather in Delaware come from 17 states and three countries and as far
as Sweden, Germany, Canada.

They'll spend an entire 2-1/2 day weekend in nonstop quartet singing
with over one hundred partners. The weekend includes several contests
and concludes with a spactacular public show. The $269 package includes
hotel, food, all registration fees and a learning package of completely
legal sheet music and an extremely well produced voice part CD of 12
championship and somewhat challenging songs. The bar is high and so is
the quality of the singing you'll enjoy.
