REMINDER: London debut for Barenaked Ladies' friends

Hi All.

BNL fans may remember reading about the legendary European group The Nits,
who are close friends of the band. A reminder of the links between them can
be found here http://www.nits.nl/news/bnl.html.

For UK fans of Barenaked Ladies I really cannot recommend the concert below
highly enough. It will be a truly historic event. Thanks,

Erik.

GIG ANNOUNCEMENT

THE NITS first ever full UK concert

FRIDAY 9TH DECEMBER 2005

@ Bush Hall, 310 Uxbridge Road, London W12 7LJ

Door open 7.30pm
Tickets: £10 in Advance

ONE of Europe¹s most critically acclaimed bands make their London debut
after a hugely successful career spanning over 30 years. This
long-anticipated concert offers a feast for anyone who craves the kind of
inventive and melodic music purveyed by the likes of XTC, Talking Heads and
Prefab Sprout. Despite playing to packed houses in every European capital
from Paris to Helsinki, and being platinum sellers in their native Holland,
the Nits¹ experience of playing in the UK extends to only two performances
at the WOMAD festival and a battle of the bands contest in 1983. Centred
around charismatic frontman Henk Hofstede, the Nits have effortlessly
re-invented themselves from one album to the next. Constantly exploring the
possibilities of what could be done within the confines of a pop song, they
have taken in influences as diverse as the Beatles, chanson, New Wave, world
music, jazz, systems music and electronica. As a consequence, they have
quietly accrued a body of work that has few equals in the world of rock,
while defying all the known laws governing how long a band can remain
creative without pandering to formula. And although their latest release Les
Nuits is their 18th album, it contains some of their most beautiful,
sophisticated and inventive music yet . . .

"Šone of pop's best-kept secretsŠsuch haunting quirkiness might keep one
beguiled for years." (Mat Snow - Q)

"There seems little doubt that were they not so geographically challenged,
the Nits would be one of the most widely respected bands in the world
today." (All Music Guide)

"...a world class band deserving international attention." Trouser Press

"What really stands out is the sheer quality of the songwriting, a duty
shouldered in the main by Lennon-ish singer Henk Hofstede." (Dave Sinclair
Q)
