I'm not familiar with either set so I can't advise you specifically.
In general I can tell you that Teldec has a good reputation; I've
never heard of Brilliant though.
To be honest I think you would be better off building a complete set
from individual recordings. On the whole you will be able to pick
better performances this way. The J.S. Bach Homepage has several CD
reviews on their web site:
http://www.jsbach.org/
If you stick to period instrument performances I think you will be
happier in general than with modern ensembles. There are too many
period groups to list, but some of my personal favorites include the
Academy of Ancient Music, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields,
Musica Antiqua Koln, Concerto Amsterdam, and the Philharmonia Baroque.
If you want recommendations for recordings of specific works I would
be happy to help. There are some boxed-sets out there that will cover
large chunks of J.S.Bach's works in one purchase; for example, there
is a set of the complete Canatas out by Ton Koopman and the Amsterdam
Baroque, which is I think 50-some-odd discs.
Best Regards,
David
