Personally, I usually prefer hip recordings of renaissance, baroque, and
early classical music.
In the end, the important issue is whether you enjoy what you hear. There's
nothing empirically wrong with modern instruments, but, you'll understand if
you find the Gabrielli CD I recommended. The hip sound is very different -
you'll hear the music in a whole new light. You may find it so different
that you don't like it at first, but give it a chance. The effort is very
rewarding.
