For Immediate Release:
NEMO AND JOHNNY Ds
IS PROUD TO PRESENT
THE 2004 NEMO BOSTON BLUES SHOWCASE:
Somerville MA - NEMO and Johhny Ds is pleased to announce the
details for the 2004 Boston Blues Showcase. This years event will
be held at Johnny Ds in Davis Square, Somerville on Friday October 1
and Saturday October 2. Event producer, Jim Carty, strove to field
a diverse mix of artists from every hue of the blues.
The Moondance Band featuring Daniel Banks will kick off the showcase
on Friday night. Daniel is an eleven year old drummer from the
South Shore. His oldest band mate is seventeen. Despite the age of
the band members in the Moondance Band, these kids are talented.
Daniel Banks reputation preceded him to New York City, where he will
be featured on the David Letterman Show on September 9, 2004.
The bill on Friday also features Timo Arthur, Monster Mike Welch and
The Racky Thomas Band. Nate Dow of the Boston Herald is quoted as
saying, "Amid a rising sea of Boston blues, Timo Arthur is a
distinctive musical voice. He hears notes and progressions no one
else imagines. Underneath the modest façade of this gentle giant,
there is a smokin', smolderin' volcano waiting to erupt." Monster
Mike Welch is now considered by many to be the "first call"
guitarist in New England. Mike continues to grow year over year
even though he has long since achieved a high level of proficiency
in his guitar playing. Mike is certain to play some tunes off his
stellar new cd, Adding Insight to Injury (AI2I). The Racky Thomas
Band rounds out the first night's line-up. Racky's outfit is
simply one of the tightest and most enjoyable blues bands in the
country. Fridays guests will include Professor Harp and others to
be announced.
Saturday October 2 is full of great talent at Johnny Ds as well.
Mr. Nick's Blues Mafia is gearing up to represent Boston in the
Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge after being crowned
Boston's best unsigned blues band in 2004. Sweet Willie D and his
band hits the stage next. Willie's band features guitarist Mike
Dibari, who is among the best swing guitarists in New England.
Grammy Award winner, David Maxwell, plans to be accompanied by an
all-star line-up including guitarist Kevin Barry (Mary Chapin
Carpenter) and Per Hansen on drums. Maxwell will lead a star
studded finale with guests such as: Chicago Bob Nelson (John Lee
Hooker, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf), Dwight Ritcher, Jose Ramos, J
Place and others to be announced.
