3 29 On this day in 1921, Lillyn Brown and her Jazzbo Syncopators
recorded "If That's What You Want Here It Is" and "Ever Lovin'
Blues" in New York City for Emerson Records.

3 30 On this day in 1955, Fats Domino recorded Blue Monday for
Imperial in New Orleans. (It was actually a Wednesday).

3 31 On this day in 1944, Universal Studios filmed an all star
tribute to the USO camp shows and amongst those performing was Louis
Jordan who sang "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby?" and "Sweet
Georgia Brown", which featured George Raft tap-dancing along to the
song. The entire soundtrack was eventually released on the Hollywood
Soundstage series.

4 1 On this day in 1956, Little Willie John recorded the original
version of "Fever" for King Records. The song would eventually
become a big hit for Peggy Lee.

4 2 On this day in 1936, Bumble Bee Slim (Amos Easton)
recorded "New Policy Dream" and "Back In Jail Again", accompanied by
pianist Myrtle Jenkins, for Vocalion Records in Chicago.

4 3 On this day in 1958, Howlin' Wolf recorded "Moanin' For My
Baby"

On this day in 1974, Professor Longhair got together with
Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown in Bogalusa, Louisiana to record "Junco
Partner" for the album "Rock-N-Roll Gumbo".

On this day in 1978, Blues guitar giant B.B. King joined famed
defense lawyer F. Lee Bailey at a rap session and concert for
inmates at Norfolk Prison in Boston as part of their ongoing duties
as co-chairmen of FAIRR (Foundation for the Advancement of Inmate
Rehabilitation and recreation).


4 4 On this day in 1924, Bessie Smith recorded "Rocking Chair
Blues" for Columbia Records.

On this day in 1935, Bumble Bee Slim recorded "Bricks In My Pillow".

On this day in 1938, Curtis Jones recorded "Reckless Life Blues".

On this day in 1964, B.B. King recorded "Help The Poor" in New York
City for ABC Records.

On this day in 1968, Otis Spann wrote "Blues For Martin Luther King"
and, "Hotel Lorraine" and performed them in front of his friend
Muddy Waters, who should have been enjoying his birthday instead of
mourning Dr. King.

Recordings of those two April 4th, 1968 performances can be heard
on "Rare Chicago Blues" Bullseye BB 9530

4 5 On this day in 1923, King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, featuring
a young Louis Armstrong and his future wife Lil' Hardin,
recorded "Canal Street Blues", and "Chimes Blues" for Gennet Records
in Richmond, Indiana.

On this day in 1958, Irvin Feld's Greatest Show of Stars began its
80-day North American tour in Norfolk, Virginia, featuring Sam
Cooke, the Silhouettes, Royal Teens, Everly Brothers, Jimmy Reed,
Clyde McPhatter, Paul Anka, Roy Hamilton, LaVern Baker, Frankie
Avalon and others.
