Taken from Peter Murphy Yahoo Group site. This is a bloody good
review from Andrea.
I have to start by saying that the show was absolutely incredible!! I
knew that it would be from the second I saw Peter's feet peeping out
from behind the speaker on the left side of the stage. I was in the
very front, right up against the gate. (I waited since 1:15 to be at
the front.) For those of you who were there and saw him stretching
his hand out to someone during Passion Of Lovers, he was looking
directly at me and stretching his hand out to me!!! I thought I would
pass out! I think he saw me because I was the only one on that side
of the stage who was smack-dab in front and singing along so
exuberantly. Being dressed head-to-toe in white didn't hurt either
I'm sure.
Anyway, a crew member tossed me the set list that was taped on the
stage at Peter's mike - so here's the set:
1. Bela Lugosi's Dead
2. In The Flat Field
3. God In An Alcove
4. Burning From The Inside
5. She's In Parties
6. Passion Of Lovers
7. Silent Hedges
8. Rose Garden Funeral Of Sores
9. Kick In The Eye
10. Stigmata Martyr
11. Dark Entries
I was so sad when Dark Entries started! I knew it would be their last
song and I wanted the show to never end!
Comments on the band's looks: None of them wore a stitch of makeup.
Everybody was totally bare-faced, even Danny. Interesting. Speaking
of Danny, he lost weight. I thought he was hot before, but damn I
could have devoured him alive. David J was immaculately dressed and
sexy as always. He looked so good that I screamed "I love you David!"
when he walked on stage. Hehe. Kevin - all black, very cool and
sexy. Peter - I don't like the goatee and mustache. It's not that he
still doesn't look hot, but I don't think it suits him. Also, I'm not
totally convinced that he gained wieght. From my view (which was like
I said at the very front and nearly in the center), when he bent over
and moved around, his belly didn't move in a natural fashion. It
looked like he didn't have time to take off the padding from when he
was suspended upside down. I won't be convinved that my perpetually
thin Peter gained weight until I see him on his solo tour. I L-O-V-E
Peter's new blond hair. It was very un-goth for such a dark set.
The whole set was so tightly played. Peter's voice was so strong and
passionate, he really put his whole physical being into every note.
It was amazing to see so close up. David, as always, played a smoking
bass. He was so cool and aloof, it was great - especially at the end
of Bela when he stood with his arms crossed across his chest like a
goth Egyptian mummy. Danny's guitar playing was incredible. At
times, it sounded like he was playing with the edge of a razor. Words
don't even begin to describe. My husband commented that every other
band that played on the same stage before Bauhaus had a guitar player
that tried to mimick the fluttery sounds that Danny makes on his
guitar, but instead of getting Danny's otherworldy sounds they just
made racket. Kevin's drum playing was also amazing. He's still one
of the few drummers I know of that actually uses the drums as an
instrument and not just as a beat-keeper. It was especially apparent
as compared to the rest of the bands that played.
I'm not sure who else noticed this, but the stage crew screwed up so
many times. When he came out after Bela to sing Flat Field, the crew
members could not find his shoes. When they finally did, they threw
them from two different sides. Man, if looks could kill, Peter would
be responsible for the deaths of two incompetent crew members. He was
Then, they were slow turning up his mike during Kick In The Eye. He
even said into to the mike "Turn up the mike, man. Come on, let's
have it." He was visibly pissed. After that during Stigmata Martyr,
another crew member ran out in the middle of the stage and set up
some
sort or music stand. What the hell it was for, I don't know. The
stupid crew member managed to get in Peter's way and Peter ran full-
on
into him and almost knocked the poor guy over. Then Peter shoved him
out of the way - the crew member got off lucky, because I saw how
hard
that shove was going to start out, but Peter pulled off at the last
second. If he hadn't, he might have really hurt the guy - as it was
he sent him flying a couple of feet. Guess he wanted to avoid another
Grevious Bodily Harm charge. ;-)
There were a lot of people in the crowd that had just come to see
Weezer play and were going to leave right afterwards. However, I'd
been singing the praises of Bauhaus so much that I convinced a lot of
people to stay and see them. None of them were sorry.
In closing, I say this. At the end of the concert Peter said, "Now
you can say you saw it. You can say you were there." This maked me
think that there might not be anymore Bauhaus shows. I hope that I am
wrong, but that is a very foreboding statement.
