The Midwest is alright BUT the Bay Area has a wealth of gifted song
writing slide-guitar players. Come to think of it many of them moved
here from the Midwest; Ron Hacker being one of them, and also the one
not for the "faint of heart."
He's an artist who has stayed true to himself, his beliefs, and the
Blues and not been afraid to walk down the paths of life and love,
using the lessons learned and those on-going in his writing and playing.
Powerful when performing solo, when heard with the Hacksaws Ron is
volcanic. He doesn't sit on the rhythm section (that's a Francis Clay
quote) the steady pulse of the Blues backing his fluid, yet forceful
slide playing and gritty vocals. Those dynamics mixed with solos by
bass player; Artis Joyce and drummers; Ronnie Smith or T Moran seem to
give Ron as much delight and amazement as they do the audience.
This is the Blues, down and dirty, music to dance to, songs that make
you love or hate the message, most of all passionate and REAL. Ron is
the real deal....lived it, wrote it, plays it and that is what the
Blues are all about.
His new CD titled aptly and simply MY SONGS is a remastered disc of 13
tunes, all written by Ron, previously recorded in SF between the years
of 1988-2007 so you hear both current and former members of the
Hacksaws. The Cd packageing is very minimalist (so green) and does not
list all musicans so I will let someone better in the know such as Jack
or Ron expand upon that when you buy one.
Ron, always generous, gifted me with an early copy and it is a fine
listen. You can pick yours up at the Cd relaese party at the the
Saloon, 1232 Grant, SF this Sasturday night, music 9:30 to 1:30 or from
ordering on-line at ronhacker.com.
