Thanks Rich. I'll send this on to the Harmonet cause there are no doubt others
who will want to have this trigger memories of a fine entertaining quartet from
our past.

Bill,

Here are the names of the Villains. I already send Dan a copy.

Lou Micco---Tenor
Paul Eiben---Lead
Don Redlingschaefer----Bari
Bob Angel---Bass

I pulled this information out of an old Chapter program that I save from the
Santa Rosa, Ca. chapter I used to sing with.

Hope this helps.

GNU is the Great Northern Union and they are from Hilltop MN! In other words
from the Minneapolis/ St. Paul area! I am from around thre and that's how I
know! Wish you could come and see the dandy show they have planned on Nov. 21,
one week from tomorrow. Crossroads is also their guest quartet!

Lou Micco was also in the Villans quartet and Paul, but I can't remember
Paul's last name. Lou owned a restaurant called Micco's in the Walnut Creek
area.

They wore black tuxes with long capes and top hats. I think they all wore (had?)

"Reformed Villains" is listed in ebiz.barbershop.org , but that's probably
not the one.

If your going to google for them you might want to check the spelling of
"villains".

Best of luck.

I would like to let everyone know about a new source for free arrangements and
learning tracks of sacred music. Heart & Voice, a part of the music ministry of
Brian Penney, is dedicated to preserving and teaching the art of four-part
singing in church worship services. It features some traditional hymns and some
contemporary Christian music with learning tracks by the excellent Daniel
Gillis. This will be a valuable resource for church choirs or anyone wishing to
improve his/her singing skills. I will be contributing some materials to Heart &

pitching in for this most worthwhile project.

I quit reading these posts for lack of interest in politics, religious, and
other non-barbershop fights. Decided to try reading again and what do I find,
another political fight. Too bad, when it is all about bbs I find it
interesting. But, when I read non bbs stuff, I feel it belongs some place
besides here. No need to worry about putting a post up on my comments since I
will again drop back to not reading any of the posts. Got other things in my
life that are of much more value that have to do with actually learning,
practicing, and singing bbs music with choruses and quartets.

Oh yes, I am a conservative who proudly volunteered to and did serve during
Vietnam. Never understood how a socalled fellowship would want to dump on each
other about their personal, political, religious and other views.

I will also apologize for forgetting the Harmonet rules. Problem is,

It is fairly simple to change the status of those who insist on talking politics
and/or religion to "moderated" - then a group owner or moderator has to approve
their posts from then on... it's really not that big a hassle.  I do it on my
SING group.  Never had a complaint.

A valient try, Scott. But I expect that the 5000 plus interested in restricting
discussions to barbershop won't go to the new site, and those that aren't won't
want to confine their rants to the small audience there.

One way it might work would be to introduce some heavy moderation on the
Harmonet group (a time-consuming and thankless job) where off topic discussions
are moved to the new group. This would be like the "unthreaded" category on many
blogs which helps to keep discussions focused on the primary blog topics.

I'll be in Markham, ON for training next week (M-Th) and this tenor was
wondering if any of the GTA choruses meet close to the Delta Hotel in
Markham on Valhalla drive? I won't have the use of a car so proximity will
be an issue unless someone is willing to drive me to and from rehearsal.

Here's hoping I'll be singing some 4-part harmony with my barbershop
brothers in Ontario!!!

Seems to me there is enough NON barbershop around that threatens our future.
I agree that talking music and its variances is what we like to discuss but
those of us that are veterans of the SPEBSQSA and BHS are here because we
survived the ugliness of war.

So... apparently, my plea to address personal differences on the Harmonet fell
on deaf ears. (Yes, there is humor on that.)

For those who DON'T remember, please allow me to provide you with the
description of this group.

"Welcome to the Harmonet, the place for discussions of
Barbershop singing and the activities of those groups which
promote it. This is a harmonious group so please keep the
dischord to a minimum. Keep it friendly; keep it polite and
   keep it barbershop."

If you didn't read through the entire description, the last three words are
"keep it barbershop."

Now, I have noticed a trend over the past few years. And this trend is that
Barbershoppers LOVE arguing and fighting with other Barbershoppers about
anything they feel passionate about. Unfortunately, the other 5,000+ members of
the Harmonet don't give a poop about your issues.

I KNOW I'm not the first one to say this. We are members of this group to
discuss barbershop. Not your beliefs in God, Jerry Springer, or how many stars
should be on a particular flag. They have nothing to do with barbershop and have
their own place.

In fact. I've even made it easy for you. There is a BRAND NEW Yahoo group JUST
FOR YOU! :) I just finished creating the group NOT-BBSHOP. This group is setup
especially for those who want to argue with other Barbershoppers about things
completely unrelated to barbershop. HOW COOL IS THAT????

So, please join up and let's not talk about barbershop. Save this Harmonet for
the 5484 OTHER people who really want to talk about something we actually care
about.

Dear Fellow Barbershopper:
The Rahway Valley Jerseyaires will sponsor the 49th Annual Novice Quartet
Contest on Saturday evening, February 27, 2010.

Where: The Roosevelt Elementary School, 811 St. Georges Ave. (Rt. 27) & Stanton
St., Rahway, NJ
When: Starting at 7:30 PM

To qualify as a `Novice Quartet' for this contest "No more than two members of a
Novice quartet may have competed in ANY quartet that qualified to sing at a
District-level (fall) contest and only one of those two men may have advanced to
or sung at the International level, whether by the route of Pre-Lims or
District-level contests". Any of your Chapter quartets, which fall within the
definition of a `novice quartet' are invited to attend and ring a chord for our
panel of Judges and for the enjoyment of our audience. We also welcome your
fellow Chapter members and their families to this contest.

Admission is 'Free' to the public and we'd like to have a large audience to
cheer on these novice quartets. We hope to have up to fifteen (15) quartets
competing for the top spot in front of a panel of a 'certified' judges and a
Contest Administrator who will tabulate a score sheet for our audience and
competing quartets. So come out and judge for yourself and see if you can pick
the winning quartets.

As has been our tradition and commencing with our 38th Novice Contest, the
winning quartet will also be awarded the Annual Ben Ackermann Memorial Trophy,
which is then passed along to each year's subsequent winners.

Each quartet will sing two songs and the top three placing quartets are also
awarded Contest Medals for their performance.

No tickets are necessary so we hope you will just plan to show up and have a
great time.

For Entry Forms, go to http://www.jerseyaires.org/register.htm or call me!!
