If you would like a free DVD of Damon Packard's weird film _Reflections of
Evil_, write to him at oogila@.... He expects to be out of them in a
week. Also on the DVD is an imaginative trailer for his fantasy film, _Apple_,
and the short _The Early 70's [sic] Horror Trailer_. Both the feature and the
short look uncannily like they were actually shot in the 1970s, unlike many
contemporary films which are set in the seventies, but don't look like they were
shot then. _Trailer_ made writer Piers Anthony think it was a compilation of
'70s material, but it was all new footage.
This is not a paid advertisement, just a recommendation. It contains some
violence and harsh language, and a VERY loud sound mix. It tends to drag at 138
minutes, but so much of it is worth seeing that we can't blame him for not
spending additional money to cut it down, particularly considering he paid all
his cast and crew, many of whom have more recognizable credits. Benicio Del
Toro's cousin, Joshue, is in it, and served on the crew.
It's a fantasy drama about a hippie teenager who dies of a drug overdose in 1971
and is struggling to find her morbidly obese derelict younger brother through
subsequent decades, culminating in an afterlife that looks like a nightmare
vision of a theme park complete with such crass ideas for rides as basing one on
_Schindler's List_.

"But since in fact we see that avarice, anger, envy, pride, sloth, lust and
stupidity commonly profit far beyond humility, chastity, fortitude, justice and
thought, and have to choose, to be human at all...why then perhaps we *must*
stand fast a little--even at the risk of being heroes." --Sir Thomas More, _A
Man for All Seasons_, by Robert Bolt
