On a lighter note, some time ago, I was performing (parts of) a solo
violin piece which I started in 1987 and completed IIRC in 1993. The
theatre director came to me afterwards and said, 'you must love
Bartok's violin sonata, don't you?' It so happens that I do love it,
of course, but it never occurred to me that my piece betrayed such
an influence. Even now, I'd rather think of late Tippett. However,
this tends to prove that Bartok's inspiration is all-pervasive...
