Hello Everyone,
Larry, thank you for your message about Bela Bartok
copyright issues.
Bela Bartok Junior is deceased. Probably his family
estate in Hungary is looking after Bela Bartok's
interest at their end. I think you will find that also
it is Peter Bartok, Bela's son from his second
marriage who is still alive who is blocking all
attempts for composers to compose variations on
Bartok's works. He is taking advantage of US Copyright
Laws which allow for copyright to be extended. This
issues has already been covered on this discussion
list earlier this year.
I have also mentioned this issue in my own Bela Bartok
Blog, at http://bela-bartok-no1-fan.blogspot.com/. It
is the third posting down.
Also as my country, Australia, has recently signed a
Free Trade Agreement with the United States of
America, Australia composers will also be subject to
US Copyright Laws.
A Happy Christmas to everyone.
