Hey all,

I wanted to let you know about a fun gig I have coming up
this Saturday at Malvina's Coffeehouse, May 3 (first
Saturday of May), with Emilie Aronson, LaDonna Goetz and me
(and Dian Pierce on piano) doing our songwriter in the round
show!

If you've never been to one of these shows you will find
it's a great deal of fun and full of synergism, and if you
have you already know how good a show this is... these are
my favorite shows in the world, with some of my favorite
songwriters in the world!

Malvina's Coffeehouse is located at 641 W. Hebron Parkway,
Carrollton, TX (put it in a Yahoo Maps search) in the
Horizons Unitarian Universalists Church. Show starts at
8 PM, tickets are $8...

On the web, http://www.horizonuu.org/ (though there's not much
info there)

Also, I just found out a couple of my newer songs got me
declared one of 10 finalists at the 2003 WildFlower! Festival
in Richardson, TX, May 10th (festival starts Friday night)...
I'm excited, been dreaming of that for years now, should be
great fun, hope to see you there! The contest starts about
10 AM at Eisemann Center off Galatyn Park in Richardson.

More on opening for David LaMotte at Open Door Coffeehouse in
Arlington May 10th... and make sure, if you haven't already,
to go to my website and download some of my free mp3 files
there... enjoy!

Hi Everyone,

July 19, we will be performing again as the Singer
Songwriter Tour with Bill Nash, Emilie Aronson, LaDonna
Goetz and once again, we are privileged to have Dian Pierce
accompany us on keyboard! The best part of this show is
going to be when Emilie, LaDonna and I do 3 part harmony on
each other's songs... it's to die for! On the other side,
this will be a show of a variety of styles and great songs,
don't miss this one if you are in Dallas next Saturday!!

voice, whose songs celebrate life, love and good music.

won't forget that will inspire and entertain you. He
skillfully performs well-honed songs, some with a rock
edge. No stranger to Uncle Calvin's Coffeehouse and most

Hey everyone,

First, the news:

It's been a magical, mysterious time the past month or so,
starting with the totally unexpected opportunity to perform
on the main stage of the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival a
couple of weeks ago! It was me and fellow song-schoolers
Christopher Smith, Stephanie Corby, and Jenny Bruce doing a
song-writer's in the round hour at 10:30 in the morning on
Sunday, and I couldn't have enjoyed it more than I did!! I
played as well as I could expect and even got to sing my
"Colorado" song to a Colorado audience!!! All in all, I
won't forget it soon....... :)

Then I got to MC the August 22 show at Calvins in a benefit
show for my dear friend and fellow volunteer Jim Ross who
died of a heart attack one night while helping clean up
Uncle Calvin's Coffeehouse, and the benefit netted about
$2100 in donations, which will go a long way to purchasing
some defibrulator paddles for the coffeehouse so we may never
feel so powerless again!

Last weekend was the third Southwest Folk Alliance Conference,
and Camp NashBill was in full swing, with about 20 performers
playing in Patty and my room till all hours of the night, it
was great to get to hear/see all of my favorite southwest
performers... it's like spending time with your tribe!

Now, for what's next:

I am opening this Saturday night for Rich Prezioso and
Jacquie Manning (better known as "Small Potatoes"!) at
the Open Door Coffeehouse in Arlington. This is very
special to me because Rich was my hands two years ago
when, during an MS exacerbation I had lost the ability to
play the guitar, and he went into the studio for me and
recorded my guitar parts (only in the style of a master
guitarist, which he is!) for "When I Was in Love"! This
is a special duo and I am honored to be playing with them
this night!

Here's the details:

Open Door Coffeehouse
Trinity United Methodist Church
3321 W. Park Row
Arlington, TX

September 13, 2003 Small Potatoes plan on joining us for
the evening. "It's exciting music -- so exciting, I'll pay
to see them. Their music is diverse. Their show is
well-paced and has depth and humor. But first and foremost,
they are excellent musicians." --Laura Hill Vasilion,
Chicago Tribune. Bill Nash opens the show at 7 PM.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door and the evening
benefits The Bridge Shelter for Adolescents.

The Open Door Coffee House is held in Trinity Hall in Trinity United Methodist
Church. Trinity UMC is located at 3321 W. Park Row in Arlington, Texas. Put
this address in the
website: http://maps.yahoo.com/ for directions.

This is going to be a great evening, come on out and
experience this one! Rich and Jacquie are the tops... hope
to see you there!!

Hey folks!

First off, tomorrow night (Thursday), for all of you
folks in Houston, I will be playing in Ken Gaines'
Songwriter's in the Round show at the venerable Houston
club Anderson Fair! It's very exciting to me to be
playing in such a well known haven for folk music, very
special to think I'll be on the same stage as so many
great songwriters have been in the past!!

Here's what Ken Gaines says about the show:

---------------

Hi Folks,

Our first 2 shows of the season have been absolutely magical
with great audiences and lots of sparks on-stage. Thanks to
all of you who caught these performances. This week promises
to be more of the same with features Jen Rathbun & Bill Nash
along with Wayne Wilkerson and guest host Bill Ward. (I'll
be in Plano giving my stepdaughter away in marriage to one
hell of a sharp young man. Yes, I'll cry.)

I've been listening to the elegant songs of Bill Nash for
a long time now. He's one of those generous spirits that
you can't forget. He hails from the Dallas area and is
very active in the DFW singer/songwriter scene. It's high
time we got him down here at Anderson Fair!

Jen Rathbun showed up on my radar about a year ago. Not your
normal sensitive singer/songwriter Jen hails from right here
in Houston. Her flashing eyes, whimsical keyboard, and
wickedly funny songs always add variety to the night. Yeah,
she has a serious bone or 2 in her body as well.

How many of you haven't heard Bill Ward? There's no one in
this town who has it all in such marvelous portions. A
consummate writer & performer, Bill is a multi
-instrumentalist, a whiz in his own studio (he recorded
and co-produced my CD, "Real Men"), and my very good friend.
I know he and Wayne will be creating sparks and swapping
licks all night long.

All of this at Anderson Fair http://www.andersonfair.com
Houston's oldest and best listening room. We're located
right next to Texas Art Supply on Montrose between West
Gray and Fairview. Turn east on Welch and we're right in
front of you. Doors open at 8 PM, music starts between
8:30 and 9. Cover is $5.

Bring 10 of your best friends and have fun without me.

Love,

Ken

---------------

Also, for you folks in Dallas, I will be opening the show
at Alexander's Hideaway for my dear friend Annie Benjamin,
who will impress you with the depth of her musical abilities
and the voice you can't forget... check out the details at
http://www.alexandershideaway.org/ I think for this show
I'm going to do almost all covers, and maybe some Harry
Chapin, too!

Alexander's Hideaway is located in the basement of the East
Dallas Christian Church, 629 N Peak St (at Junius), downtown
Dallas, the show starts at 7 PM, hope to see you there!

Hey all!

I just wanted to give you all a head's up on my last gig
of the year... I'd love to see a nice big crowd at this
fine venue, come on out!

--------------

December 6 - I will have my third show at Gloria Dei
Nights! Coffeehouse in December! I love this room and
the folks that come to and run this house, and it will
be even more special this year because I've got my dear
friends Tom Noe and Linda Silas to open for me (about the
only way I could get them to this venue was book them :)!
I'm hoping they do a goodly portion of their Dave Carter
covers and I know we'll be doing at least one Harry Chapin
tune together (at least "Mr Tanner")! I hope you all can
come out, this will be a fun night all the way around...
it is a $5 charge at the door, and Ray Dodd has been
recording shows there, so, who knows... we may have a new
live recording from that night!!

I'm planning this show to be a semi-tribute to many of my
favorite songwriters and I plan to play covers of some of
my favorites of theirs, and I am dedicating this
performance to some of my recently fallen friends, Jim
Ross, Kirk Edens, and Dave Carter and some not so recent
(Harry Chapin, Steve Goodman)! And I'll play a couple of
my own, too! :)

Also, there will be gifts (my holiday spirit! :) for every
person coming through the door this night, no one leaves
empty handed... come out and see!!

Hey all!

Well, here we are, near the end of another year! 2003 has
been a lot of fun and very memorable, with many changes, one
of which is I got married in September and instantly acquired
a family of 3 girls and a wife (the estrogen level in my house
is pretty high ;^)! There have also been digressions in my
body because of my multiple sclerosis problems over the last
year, causing this to quite possibly be one of the last gigs
I schedule for me to play... I will still be playing when I
can, but more in social situations than gigs (I have only
scheduled one benefit gig for 2004 in San Antonio in March to
benefit the MS Society). Because of that, I have talked with
my friends Tom Noe and Linda Silas about sharing this show
with me due to the fact it's getting harder for me to play
more than 2 songs in a row without rest. So, the three of
us old friends will be playing in the round this Saturday,
which is by far my favorite method of performing... it's
wonderful to be able to feed off of other performer's
energies/songs during a show!

Anyway, I hope to see many of you folks this Saturday, then
down the road...

--------------

December 6 - My third show at Gloria Dei Nights! Coffeehouse
in the last three years will be a special event in that Tom
Noe and Linda Silas will be sharing the stage with me in the
round! I have always loved this room and the folks that come
to and run this house, and it will be even more special this
year because of Tom and Linda's participation!!

We have worked out a couple of great sets, including about
seven or so Dave Carter covers, and I know we'll be doing at
least two Harry Chapin tunes together (for sure "Mr Tanner")!
I hope you all can come out, this will be a fun night all the
way around...

There is a $5 charge at the door, and Ray Dodd has been
recording shows there, so, hopefully we'll get a nice live
recording from this show!!

I'm planning this show to be a semi-tribute to many of my
favorite songwriters and I plan to play covers of some of
my favorites of theirs, and I am dedicating this performance
to some of our recently fallen friends, Jim Ross, Kirk Edens,
and Dave Carter and some not so recent, and I'll play a couple
of my own, too (including the highly requested turtle song, "Sheldon and
Shirley"! :)

Also, there will be gifts (my holiday spirit! :)... for every
person coming through the door this night, no one leaves empty
handed... come out and see!!

Sets: We're going to do 2 hourlong sets, with a break
              in between...
Food: Wonderful homemade desserts, including incredible
Bahklava, cherry torts, and gourmet coffee!!
Cover: $5, some of the proceeds go to charitable
organizations in and around the Garland area

I just wanted to thank everyone on this list for
another great year, and especially to the 50+ folks

Hey all,

My friend John Davis down in San Antonio has asked me
recently to put together an MS Society benefit show at
his venue down south, and so here are the details:

On March 13, 2004 I will be appearing in a Multiple
Sclerosis Society benefit at the Walden Coffeehouse in
San Antonio called "Bill Nash and friends!" A couple of
my dear friends will be sharing the stage with me...
vaunted Austin Conspiracy members, Todd Hoke and
Damaris!!

Todd and his wife are every year visitors to my camp,
Camp NashBill, in the meadow at the Kerrville Folk
Festival, and we've shared quite a few musical
experiences together... Todd's music speaks to me on
a very earthy level! :)

http://www.toddhoke.com

I met Damaris at the 2002 Southwest Folk Alliance after
my friend Jaime Michaels recommended she'd be great in
my showcase room, and he was right... she is a world
class songwriter and also plays a hell of a frailing
banjo! She must be experienced to be believed!

http://www.damarismusic.com

We will play together in the round, with proceeds going
to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, San Antonio
Chapter. Find out more info on Walden Coffeehouse at
their website at http://www.waldencoffeehouse.org/

HOW TO GET HERE - the coffeehouse is located on the
access road on the Southeast corner of the intersection
of IH-10 West and Loop 410. The physical address is
7150 IH-10 West.

Date: Saturday, March 13, 2004
Time: doors open 7 PM, show at 7:30 PM
Cost: $10/$12

If you're in or near San Antonio Saturday night, come out
and experience a great show! Any questions? Let me
know...

Hello all,

We have a very special show coming up in next Friday at
Uncle Calvin's Coffeehouse here in Dallas with me and two
of my favorite Austin songwriters in the world... Todd Hoke
and Damaris! This will be a special in the round show
featuring the three of us pulling songs out of our hats
that sometimes relate to the previous song, and sometimes
not, but it's always interesting what three people do when
they start to play off one another!! The format is built
for pure variety of music! As the new Calvin's mailout
says:

"Damaris approaches original blue, ballads and country-folk
with sparse arrangements, giving her flexible voice room to
soar and free range to her guitar and banjo accompaniment."

and

"Todd shares his day to day observations in unpretentious
and absorbing lyrics with humor and honesty. His songs
have mistakenly been credited to Guy clark - high praise
indeed, and deserved."

Where: Uncle Calvin's Coffeehouse
         NorthPark Presbyterian Church
9555 N Central Expwy (75 and Walnut Hill, SW corner)
         Dallas, TX
When: 8 PM
Door: $12

And for a bonus this night, my share of the door proceeds
and my CD sales will be donated to the MS Society for
research purposes, and there will be plenty to choose from
(4 separate recordings!), including:

> Mostly True Stories (1996) - CDs and cassette tapes
> Runs With Scissors (1998) - CDs and cassette tapes
> Live at Gloria Dei Nights with Tom Noe, Linda silas and
Bill Nash - December 6, 2003 (this is a 2 disk set of
our 3 person in the round show last year!)
> Covers and Stuff - Bill Nash singing mostly favorite cover
tunes and some original live recordings (limited number!)

Damaris and Todd will also have their CDs and tapes for sale,
so bring extra money because I know you'll be wanting to
take their music home, too! Come out and share this night
of coffee and song with us...!

hey Folks!

I just wanted to let you all know about a show I am

--------------------------------

Bill Nash & Friends featuring:

Me, Tracie Merchant and Kerri Arista

Bill Nash & Friends - the second annual premier Songwriter's
Carousel event at the Hideaway. The music is spontaneous and
magic. This July Bill brings two friends (and maybe even a
surprise walk-on or two) the Hideaway Stage. Let's give you
a little about each of them.

Bill Nash

"I've been listening to the eloquent songs of Bill Nash for
a long time now. He's one of those generous spirits that you
can't forget...!" -- quoted from Ken Gaines, host of the
Songwriter's Night Showcase, Anderson Fair, Houston, TX

Bill Nash has been a musician all his life. He was a 5-year
-old boy soprano, a 4th grade french hornist (played horn
all through college), a 15-year-old beginning guitarist and
then an 18-year-old guitar teacher, and a graduate of
Bradley University's School of Music, majoring in
composition. Bill began writing music and lyrics in his
early teens and his roots are firmly embedded in what is
now known as the singer/songwriter acoustic music genre.
He has performed styles as diverse as rock 'n roll, fusion,
country, polka, folk, and even old-time western music, ala
the Sons of the Pioneers, with a forte in story songs (ala
Harry Chapin).

Tracie Merchant

There is no doubt that Tracie Merchant's eclectic, acoustic
style is her own blend of life experience and emotion. This
songwriter's soulful and passionate voice will capture your
senses immediately. You can read Tracie's life in between
the lines, her lyrics intimate and empowering. As a part of
Poor David's Pub 25th anniversary special, she appeared
on "the Glen Mitchel Show", KERA 90.1, along with established
songwriters Max Stalling and Josh Alan. Tracie has opened
shows for Guy Forsyth, Trish Murphy, Shake Russell, Dana
Cooper, Vince Bell, Terri Hendrix w/ Lloyd Maines...has
shared the stage with Adam Carroll, Ruthie Foster, Cindy
Kalmenson, Butch Morgan, to name a few.

Kerri Arista

I think music is pretty important to everyone- Who doesn't
like at least some genre of music? I think you could search
the whole planet for a lifetime in search of the person that
isn't touched by music...you'd never find them because they
don't exist! For me, there is probably nothing more powerful
than music. (Except love of course, and I'll get to that
soon!) A great song can change my mood, give me energy,
soothe me, help me cook, and make driving in Dallas traffic
more tolerable.

Alexander's hideaway is a cool, retreat from the summer heat.
See you there!

Tickets for this event will be 12$ at the door and $10
reserved in advanced. Simply go to the website and send
them a message for your reservation with a name, phone
and the number of tickets you want! Table reservations are
available: Table of 8 = $75 and a table of 6 = $55.
Alexander's Hideaway is located at 629 N. Peak St, Dallas,
TX

As is customary at the Hideaway, doors open at 7:00 PM and
the performance begins at 7:30 PM.

Alexander's Hideaway Coffeehouse offers a variety of
entertainment in a smoke-free, alcohol free environment.
Most performances are scheduled on the second Saturday of
each month. Visit the Coming Events page often to see the
schedule for future events. The coffeehouse is located in
the musical underground level (where it is always a little
cool and a bit dark) at East Dallas Christian Church and
is proud to call it 'sponsor'.

Hey all,

I wanted to let you all know about a show I put together for
Tom Noe, Linda Silas and Paul Porter's Acoustic Concert
Tours house concert series in Wylie, TX, which includes 3
very dear friends of mine... here's the details:

Date: March 19, 2005
Time: 8 PM
Where: Hwy 78 outside of Wylie, TX (call 972-442-5232 for
            directions and information)
Who: Bill Nash, Todd Hoke, Karen Mal and Jeff Talmadge
Format: In the round (semi-circle of the 4 of us sharing
            our songs!)
Donation: $12 at the door

Here's what Linda put on their website about this show:

-------------------------------------

"Our ubiquitous and talented Bill Nash brings together a group of outstanding
Texas songwriters for our enjoyment. In addition to Bill's beautiful music,
you'll also get:

Todd Hoke roams through life with his eyes and ears wide open, every day
gathering in images, colors, and sounds. The descriptive and emotional breadth
of his songwriting is evidence of this receptiveness. "I remember the night I
became a songwriter. I’d gotten together with some friends to pick guitars and
swap lies, and we were playing songs we all knew. I slipped one of mine in
unannounced and when I finished someone said, 'Great song. Is it Guy Clark's?' I
just sat there blinking. That was it."

In three short years, Karen Mal has gone from a virtual unknown on the Austin
acoustic music scene to one of the most sought-after performers around, both as
a solo artist and as a sideman for others on mandolin, guitar, and harmony
vocals. Originally from New England, more recently from Wisconsin, Karen worked
in regional theatre for several years as an actor and musical director/composer
before settling in Austin to play music full-time.

Jeff Talmadge grew up in small towns scattered across Texas--ones like Crystal
City, Boling, New Gulf, Iago and Big Spring. The ghosts and memories of these
places appear often in his songs-distant trains in the night, unread letters
lying in weathered mailboxes, and memories of the things we love-and
leave-blowing across the vast Texas plains."

------------------------------------------

Karen is at http://www.karenmal.com
Jeff is at http://www.jefftalmadge.com

ACT house concert website at:

http://web.wt.net/~lsilas/Upcoming/upcoming.html

-------------------

I have to admit to you I had to look up "ubiquitous", but
after checking out the dictionary, I suppose the word fits
me pretty well! :) Just what I needed, another label...
These 3 are some of my favorite songwriters, and I'm proud
they would fit this into their busy schedules!!

This is one of the premier house concert series in the
nation (more than 150 shows presented in the past 12 or
14 years [I personally have been to more than 100 shows
here as a customer!]). Also, stick around after the show
for a great picking circle, to play with us or to listen
to more music... it should be a great one! I hope to see
you all out there... drop me a line if there is any
confusion about this!

Hey all,

For those of you who might like to come out and see this
show Saturday night, here are some directions from the
Dallas area:

Coming from the south/west~ (like from Sachse) up hwy 78,
head north till you see the Wylie city limit sign... from
here you'll go through 3 main lights in Wylie, after the
third light, you will see a Walmart on your left (4th light)
(from here you're about 1 mile away from the house),
continue on till you see a sign for the entrance to the
lake, the driveway is just before that on your left. If
you begin to cross the bridge, or see the city limit sign
of Lavon, you've missed it.

Coming from the north (like from Farmersville), go south on
hwy 78, continue through Lavon, go past last light (hwy 205)
and continue over the bridge, at the end of the bridge is
the entrance to the lake area... the driveway is on your
right.

Coming from Plano, take Renner Rd east till it runs out
into a T, turn left and go to the light, turn right and
head towards Wylie, turn left on hwy 78, from here you'll
go through 3 main lights in Wylie, after the third light,
you will see a Walmart on your left (4th light)(from here
you're about 1 mile away from the house), continue on till
you see a sign for the entrance to the lake, the driveway
is just before that on your left. If you begin to cross
the bridge, or see the city limit sign of Lavon, you've
missed it.

There will be a "House Concert" sign at the head of the
driveway, find a place to park on the gravel... we have

Hey all,

Sorry for the late, late notice, but I forgot to mailout
before now... I'm opening tonight at Uncle Calvin's
Coffeehouse at 8 PM tonight (doors open at 7:30 PM) for my
old friend Emilie Aronson, and it's going to be a fun time!

Hope you can brave the weather and come on out! Here's the
details:

Friday, August 5: Emilie Aronson ($12)

Our most featured local performer is a perennial favorite who reminds us of the
depth and breadth of original folk music. A winner of the prestigious Kerrville
Folk Festival's New Folk Competition, Emilie's modern folk songs have flavors of
blues, bluegrass and rock. But be warned: she's wicked with puns and they often
find their way into her humorous tunes! There is also a lot of compassion and
insight to be found in her original songs, which she performs in a clear and
confident voice accompanied by deft guitar playing. Emilie's memorable concerts
are exciting, engaging and uplifting and we guarantee you'll be singing along,
too! Come see why Emilie is our most featured performer.

Opening: Bill Nash

Great guitar and sensitive songs from one of our own.

Where: Uncle calvin's Coffeehouse, 9555 N Central Expwy
(SW corner of Walnut Hill and Central in the
            NorthPark Presbyterian Church)
When: Tonight (August 5), 8 PM (doors 7:30 PM)
Cost: $12
What: Gourmet coffee and desserts for most who desire!

all there!

I know there is a lot going on almost every weekend, and this festival is a
little out of the way, but it's a beautiful area, nice stage with incredible
sound, and a feel like the early Kerrville festivals... not crowded, plenty of
great music, and a real nice way to spend a weekend! Hope to see you there...

Hey all,

I just wanted to remind everyone how much fun we're going to have this weekend
in Richardson at the WildFlower Festival and at the contest Saturday morning!
This is my second chance at this contest (very much an honor to be chosen
again!), and from the folks listed in the contest and for the regular
singer/songwriter stage members, I can tell you it's going to be a great weekend
of music! Get all the details at:

http://www.wildflowerfestival.com/

Some of the folks scheduled at the mainstage are: Vance Gilbert, Albert & Gage,
Jack Hardy, Slaid Cleaves, Bill Ward, Ruthie Foster, Ken Gaines, & Sara Hickman!
If you're in the Dallas area this weekend make a point to try to come out, it's
a great lineup and a fine tuneup for Kerrville next week!

Hope to see you all there!!!

Hey all,

It's 30 days from today that I will be heading down to the ranch
to help Paul Porter in whatever way I can and to get my stuff set
up for the festival, which I right now have 11 days of tickets for
(18 almost killed me last year!)! I'm ready to get going!! :)

I spoke with Paul the other day and he said that Judi might be
there early to give him some help... anyone heard from JP lately?
I know he helped Paul immensely last year, hope he can come this
year!

Paul Brown also told me they'd not be there for the first weekend,
but the second, and I heard Ross got his stake in to Paul and will
expect tp have the camper in the usual place. What about the rest
of you? What are your plans?

See you in the Hill Country soon!
