Greetings from Flip City!
We have a special issue today. Alan Myers, of the Rooms with Brittle
Views web site has asked me to pass along the following information
concerning this years Bill Nelson Fan Convention, Nelsonica '02. What
follows are Alan's words, please respond to him if you have specific
questions. His email is given at the top and bottom of the notes.

Nelsonica 02
As you are already aware from last week's Blazing Apostles, I met up
with Bill recently to discuss Nelsonica 02. The venue chosen for the
event is 'The Duke of Cumberland' North Ferriby, East Yorkshire (or
Humberside if you prefer). The date is now fixed for Saturday 7th
September 2002. The event will last all day, probably 11:00h - 23:30
and feature a few surprises. - More of these later. The team are also
planning to be there the day before as much setting up is needed.
However, we don't intend to be working on Friday evening and will more
than likely be quenching our thirsts in 'The Duke'. So, if you are
planning on making a weekend of it, we'll perhaps see you in there. It
will give us an opportunity to meet and talk with everyone as during
the event itself, we tend to be rather busy. At our next meeting, we
will be discussing potentially making Friday evening part of the event
itself by, say, holding a BBQ or something similar. Something we don't
have to get too involved in running. :-) We'll see. So, down to the
surprises. Well, if I told you, they wouldn't be surprises would
they!!! :-) As we are in the planning stages at the moment, what I say
here may (and probably will) change as the event takes shape. But
here's what's planned for the moment. A proper event timetable will be
appearing on the soon to be posted Nelsonica 02 page here at RWBV.
This will detail the event timetable as it takes shape.
First things first: - The bar will be open all through the event
(RESULT!!) and we have the option of, either laying on a buffet and
building it into the price of the ticket OR a BBQ where people
purchase their own food from. At the moment it is looking as if the
BBQ will be the better option. This way people can eat when they are
ready and not at a set time. - You will be relieved to know that Don
The Landlord (Bay Horse) sadly can't make it this year and so the
catering will have to be provided by the management of The Duke of
Cumberland. :-) As like last year, the music will be pre-compiled onto
CDR and consist of a selection of Bill's material from throughout his
career.
Tickets: I am still calculating a ticket price at the moment and am
waiting for costings on PA/ AV equipment, marquee hire etc. As soon as
I have these and am able to give a price, tickets will go on sale. If
this process stretches out (and I don't see any reason why it should
but just in case) the team will begin accepting deposits for tickets.
As numbers are strictly limited and we don't want them appearing on
e-bay at over-inflated prices, we are limiting the tickets to personal
applications and each ticket will be assigned to an individual, as per
last year. The venue is much bigger than last years but ticket sales
will still be on a strictly first come first served basis as we expect
to sell out fairly soon.
Live Sessions: As Bill has already mentioned in his diary, Elle &
Elliot may be playing a live set at the event. Those of you who have
seen them play live, with HTC will know that you're in for a real
treat, and for those of you who haven't 'you're in for a real treat!'
Bill will be performing a live session too, accompanied by previously
prepared backing tapes. In ADDITION to this session, he is also
planning to put together a 'scratch band' to perform a few live
numbers. He has already discussed with me some of the people he
intends to bring along to perform (if possible) - WOW!!!!! We really
are in for a treat! John Spence from Fairview Studio will be acting as
Sound Engineer for the live sessions. These are going to be recorded
and MAY be released as a live album some time in the future. He has
also discussed with me some of the material he intends to play with
the band. Another treat!!! And for those of you who are already
writing the e-mail to me, yes it does include Be-Bop!!!!!! So, let's
hope all this happens eh folks!
Video: Bill also plans to screen a selection of videos/ DVD and other
material he has created. This gets better and better!
CD: Bill has already completed the material for the CD which will be
given away with every ticket. Yes you did read correctly, a free CD
with every ticket! The material is unique to the CD and will almost
certainly become a sought after collector's piece.
Hotels/ travelling etc: I have visited the local hotels and will be
posting information as part of the Nelsonica 02 page as soon as
possible. Travelling arrangements and maps etc will also be available
on the page. As far as the locality is concerned. It's excellent and
very connected to Bill and his music, so there will be plenty to do
before and after the event. I'll try to compile a little map with the
help of Bill to identify places like Fairview, Parklands Drive,
Woodgates Lane and the place where 'Big River' was written (amongst
others) so that you can all have a wander round in your spare time. I
am good to you lot!
Bill also mentioned that we may be able to release a CD of the first
part of his autobiography ready for release at Nelsonica 02. A superb
read and a real insight into the roots of the man and his music. Watch
this space for further details.
There are loads of other things to tell, but I think that's enough for
now. I don't want you getting too excited. Please remember though
these are only plans and are subject to change.
As you can probably appreciate, this is going to take up a lot of my
time and so I hope you will understand if the daily updates to RWBV
are sometimes interrupted.
